A Swiss professor has stirred up a hornet’s nest by suggesting that certain elements of Sharia, the Muslim legal system, should be introduced in Switzerland.

Christian Giordano told swissinfo that current Swiss legislation was “too narrow” for minorities and he put a case for introducing legal pluralism.

His position echoes that of Anglican Church head, the Archbishop of Canterbury, who last year caused a storm of protest in Britain after suggesting a partial adoption of Sharia law there.

“Touching simple-mindedness” was the reaction of the NZZ am Sonntag newspaper to Giordano’s proposal, saying it wasn’t clear what problems this would solve.

“There’s no place for Sharia in Switzerland,” it said. “Special rights for people, apart from in courts of arbitration or associations, have been abolished.”

Bahrain to Release Code of Conduct to Regulate Religious Speeches

Which doesn’t mean the Bahraini police doesn’t monitor what goes on in the mosques; the Moslems know that mosques are a fertile breeding ground for jihadists and plotters, in Turkey the kuthba (the Friday sermon) has to be approved by the government, the same in Tunisia, Morocco and many, if not all of the Islamic countries. It is only in the West that we are totally unaware of the politically explosive nature of Islam that we excuse these activities with ‘Freedom of Religion” – who could  imagine thirty years ago that within a relatively short time we would have millions of hostile aliens among us who build mosques and madrassas and plan our demise?

Bahrain to Release Code of Conduct to Regulate Religious Speeches

MANAMA – Bahrain plans to release a code of conduct for religious speeches to regulate Friday sermons and Islamic lectures.

 

The code aims to counter those scholars who try to politicise religious gatherings. Under-secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs Fareed Al Muftah said in a statement that the code would bring to an end violations of religious norms by some scholars, especially those with sectarian leanings.

He said that the code would also promote religious dialogue in Bahrain and pave way for modernisation.

Earlier this month, a lawmaker Jassim Al Saidi was stopped from delivering sermons after complaints by six societies that he passed improper remarks in his Friday sermon.

A PRESUMED member of Al-Qaeda threatened Germany with reprisals for its presence in Afghanistan in a video made public late on Saturday by the US centre for surveillance of Islamist sites (SITE).

In the 30-minute video message, an individual calling himself Abu Talha Al-Alamani said the Germans were “gullible and naive” if they thought they could “escape unscathed when they are the third occupation force in Afghanistan.”

After posting a report regarding the U.S. Army War College’s failure to examine Islam’s war doctrines, including a faculty member’s (Sherifa Zuhur’s) assertions that Hamas has been “villainized” by the media, I received several e-mails from concerned people questioning Ms. Zuhur’s “credentials” — some alluded to her sincerity and intentions, or lack thereof — to teach at the War College. One e-mail sent the following, rather telling, response made by Zuhur, after being asked to, “Tell us about your recent monographs on Islamic Rulings on Warfare and on Saudi Arabia”:

I wrote Islamic Rulings on Warfare with my co-author Youssef Aboul-Enein to counteract the idea that Islam promotes kidnappings, beheadings and other unlicensed hostile actions as a matter of course.

NEW DELHI: The Dalai Lama, a lifelong champion of non-violence on Saturday candidly stated that terrorism cannot be tackled by applying the principle of ahimsa because the minds of terrorists are closed. 

“It is difficult to deal with terrorism through non-violence,” the Tibetan spiritual leader said delivering the Madhavrao Scindia Memorial Lecture here. 

He also termed terrorism as the worst kind of violence which is not carried by a few mad people but by those who are very brilliant and educated. 

“They (terrorists) are very brilliant and educated…but a strong ill feeling is bred in them. Their minds are closed,” the Dalai Lama said. 

He said that the only way to tackle terrorism is through prevention. The head of the Tibetan government-in-exile left the audience stunned when he said “I love President George W Bush.” He went on to add how he and the US President instantly struck a chord in their first meeting unlike politicians who take a while to develop close ties.

Riot police surrounded up to 240 demonstrators in central London, many wearing scarves covering their faces, who broke away from a rally in Trafalgar Square at about 5pm.

A court in the German capital struck down an administrative ban on Hamas flags, clothing and banners on Friday, but left in place the ban on invoking Hamas Foreign Minister Mahmoud Zahar’s call to murder Israeli children worldwide.

The decision paved the way for supporters of the Islamist movement to march in anti-Israeli rallies on Saturday with pro-Hamas paraphernalia.
