Pakistan Objects to U.S. Plan for Afghan War

NYT: ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan is objecting to expanded American combat operations in neighboring Afghanistan, creating new fissures in the alliance with Washington at a critical juncture when thousands of new American forces are arriving in the region.

If Afghan president Hamid Karzai is re-elected in next month’s presidential vote, he will forge a “new agreement” with NATO-led international forces in the country, Karzai told a campaign gathering on Friday. The accord would stop international troops arresting Afghans or searching their homes, he said. He also said he would intensify the reconciliation process with the Taliban during a second term of office.  AKI

Pakistan fears that the Afghan war will inflame Baluchistan.

Pakistani officials have told the Obama administration that the Marinesfighting the Taliban in southern Afghanistan will force militants across the border into Pakistan, with the potential to further inflame thetroubled province of Baluchistan, according to Pakistani intelligence officials.

Pakistan does not have enough troops to deploy to Baluchistan to take on the Taliban without denuding its border with its archenemy, India, the officials said. Dialogue with the Taliban, not more fighting, is in Pakistan’s national interest, they said.

THE parents of an eight-year-old girl lured into a shed with chewing gum and raped by four boys have disowned her for “bringing shame” on her family. The Telegraph omits the fact that the parents were recent Libereian migrants…. can you guess the religion?

The girl and the four suspects are refugees from the war-torn West African country of Liberia, which, according to investigators, would “complicate authenticating names and dates of birth.” How the f*#k did they get into the US then?

Almost as soon as news broke that the murders of three Afghan-Canadian teenage sisters and their father’s first wife in Kingston, Ont., were possible “honour killings,” some in the Muslim community reacted in the most predictable fashion: defensiveness and denial.

Instead of voicing outrage at the murders, two Muslim callers to my CFRB radio show in Toronto slammed me for raising the subject, and suggested I had some hidden agenda. “This has nothing to do with Islam,” said one caller, despite the fact no one on the show had, to that point, even mentioned the word “Islam,” let alone accused the religion of sanctioning honour killings.

Airport Security Search Enrages Muslims

DAYTON, Ohio, July 23 (UPI) — A Muslim woman was pulled out of line and subjected to a pat-down search at an Ohio airport because she was wearing “traditional dress”, an advocacy group said.

CAIR, The Council on American-Islamic Relations said Wednesday it has complained to the federal Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security, the Dayton Daily News reported.

The woman, who was wearing a long dress and headscarf, was detained for 70 minutes at Dayton International Airport June 2 after being selected for a more extensive search, the group said. She agreed to a search in a private room by three female agents.

The agents ordered the woman to pull up her dress to expose her body while one of them searched beneath her underwear, the group said.

The TSA said travelers wearing bulky or loose-fitting clothes may face additional searching.

“All humanitarian aid sent into the Gaza Strip today needs to receive Hamas clearance,” a senior defense official told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday. “Hamas uses violence against international organizations, including UNRWA, if they do not cooperate.”

Hamas recently published an ad in a Palestinian newspaper warning that “whoever does not follow its orders will be forced to leave Gaza.”
