Lille: Ramadan urges Muslims to mobilize

The Al Imane mosque of the Lille-Sud neighborhood of Lille, in northern France, was full last night, for a conference given ‘in support of the people of Gaza’ by Tariq Ramadan, Islamolog, and Michel Collon, leftist Belgian journalist.       

The conference opened in a strange way: Amar Lasfar, rector of the Lille-Sud mosque, first requested a journalist working for Voix du Nord to leave.  He was accused of ‘writing lies’ in a previous article.  He warned, in front of a crowd of faithful that “any journalist who plays with us in that way, we can tell him that won’t be open to him.”

“Hamas! Hamas! Jews to the gas”- in Utrecht!

Five men and boys were arrested for unruly behaviour during a demonstration to show support for Palestinians in Gaza in the central Dutch city of Utrecht, police said. A police statement issued Friday said the men were detained for shouting insults, disturbing the peace and ignoring orders to disperse Thursday night.

Police said about 300 men, most of Moroccan ancestry, attended the Utrecht rally. Dutch television showed a group of young men chanting “Hamas! Hamas! Jews to the gas.” The chant is used by Dutch football fans who dislike Amsterdam Ajax, which is identified as a “Jewish” team by both its own supporters and opponents.

Several hundred pro-Israel supporters are staging a rally Friday in front of the Dutch parliament building in the Hague.

The Israeli forces have succeeded in reducing the supply of rockets, but they haven’t reached the inland missiles. “They have yet to go into the densely populated areas,” Mr. Heller said. “They’re hoping to persuade Hamas to agree to a ceasefire without doing this.

(IsraelNN.com) Gaza terrorists responded to the United Nations Security Council’s call for an immediate ceasefire early Friday morning with a renewed barrage of rocket fire directed at southern Israel.

The US abstained. Not, “The U.S. stood up and stoutly defended the right and necessity for Israel to defend itself against jihad attacks from Hamas.” Oh, no. Instead, the U.S. abstained, and Rice spoke out in favor of the ceasefire resolution. Did anyone speak of how anything short of destroying Hamas would only restore the status quo ante, and lead to the resumption of jihad attacks upon Israel from Gaza? I doubt Rice did. I doubt anyone did.

UP TO 3000 Palestinian supporters rallied outside the State Library yesterday, calling for an immediate end to the Israeli assault that has resulted in hundreds of deaths in Gaza in recent days.
