Yudhoyono’s comments made that incident sound like little more than homeowner’s association dispute. Indeed, his track record, as described below, suggests he is still more alarmed at the immediate prospect of instability and the challenge to public order posed by these rampages than broader principles of genuine equality and freedom of conscience.

How much does Islam value the life of a human being? What did Allah say to the Prophet Mohammad about life, about mankind, about how we need to respect and treasure it? The answer resides both in the Quran and the laws laid down by the Islamic rulers of Iran and other Islamic countries.

The Quran, the holy book of Muslims, is clear about the value of life and what human beings need to do in order to end up in heaven. The Quran makes clear what Allah loves (61:4): “Surely Allah loves those who fight in His way.” Then the Quran makes it clear that no human being is immune to refusing its mandate or allowed freedom of choice (8:12): “I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.” And it goes further recommending what needs to be done against those challenging its rule (5:33): “The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this: that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement.”

A man can have sex with animals such as sheep, cows, camels, and so on. However, he should kill the animal after orgasm. He should not sell the meat to the people in the village; however, the selling of meat to people in a neighboring village is permissible.

One hundred-and- fifty-four Canadian soldiers have died in Afghanistan, not just for the big things such as fighting international terrorists, but for the small things, too.

Like the right of Afghan girls to go to school. Simple things, like the right to listen to music. These things were actually banned under the Taliban, which enforced sharia law.

So what would our soldiers think of Winnipeg’s Louis Riel School Division, where a dozen Muslim immigrant families have demanded changes to the curriculum to accommodate their fundamentalist view of Islam? The families don’t want boys and girls in the same classes, such as physical education.

And they don’t want their children to hear to any instruments or singing in music class, either.

Instead of sending their kids to a private or religious school, they want the public schools to change.

Superintendent Terry Borys says the families are “adamant’ about this, despite both phys-ed and music being compulsory. So the suggestion now is the children be allowed do their musical requirements through a ‘writing project.”

Brilliant. A music class with no music.
