That in turn leads to the Keystone Kops angle: what on earth was the FBI and the CIA thinking, giving this woman key jobs? Of course, no one would dream of asking Nada Nadim Prouty or anyone like her sensitive questions about where they stand on the jihad ideology and Islamic supremacism. Why, you’re automatically a bigot just for thinking that such questions should be asked. But when you don’t ask, of course, and make no effort to investigate in any other way, you don’t get answers.

Australia: No-Goh policy on mosques and Islamic immigration

A 10-year ban on Islamic immigration to Australia and on the construction of any Islamic schools or mosques is the main election policy for one of Macarthur’s federal election candidates.
Christian Democratic Party (Fred Nile Group) candidate Godwin Goh said his party, if elected, would also lobby the NSW Government and Federal Government to change any anti-vilification or anti-discrimination laws that could make such a proposal illegal.

Mr Goh said he wanted: “No Muslim immigration for 10 years, no setting up schools and mosques, too.”

A decade is the time Mr Goh said was needed to review the impact of Muslim migration to Australia.

Critics of the party have called its members bigots but Mr Goh denied the accusation.

“That word means intolerant,” he said.

“We’re not intolerant, we actually love Muslims but we don’t like what they practise and some of their beliefs because they’re not favourable to our society and community harmony.”

The Liberal MP for Macarthur, Pat Farmer, rejected Mr Goh’s proposal. “Immigration requests need to be analysed on a case-by-case basis,” he said. “You can’t throw a blanket over the top of everybody and say they’re all terrorists and all incite violence. That’s wrong and that’s not the Australian way.”

* Right. But the elected government has a duty to protect its citizens from those who adhere to a belief-system that is deeply hostile and advocates a takeover of the state to introduce the sharia, Islamic law. We have a right to keep such people out, don’t we?

Mr Farmer said the Federal Government decided immigration cases on “people’s involvement in the community, what they can add to the country, their ability as far as being able to support themselves and get a job, whether they have family here already or a police record in their home country”.

“Basically we’re looking for people who can be good upstanding citizens.”

When asked to respond to Mr Goh’s proposed 10-year ban on Muslim immigration, schools and mosques, the Labor candidate for Macarthur, Nick Bleasdale, said: “Let me make it clear. I’m totally opposed to the development of the new Islamic school and the community has my full support on the issue. Make no mistake, this issue has nothing to do with race. It’s based on the fact that such a large development will undoubtedly have an impact on our semi-rural way of life, especially without the local infrastructure to support it.”

Mr Goh is opposed to all Islamic schools because, he claims, they teach extreme versions of Islam. He cited as an example an Islamic school in Victoria. “The teacher asked the students who their hero was and they all said Osama binLaden,” he said.

“The teachers are brainwashing. Can’t you see it’s brainwashing? What about Australian heroes? Sport heroes? Such brainwashing, this is when these children have been taught this kind of teaching in their formative years.

“When they grow up they’re going to idolise the greatest of all terrorists and, furthermore, there’s nothing illegal about teaching about the Taliban, Osama binLaden and an extreme interpretation of Islam.”

The Christian Democratic Party (Fred Nile Group) has so far promised to send its preferences to the Family First Party and the Liberals.

 This is the shed where the woman was held captive and tortured

A 19 year old woman managed Sunday evening to escape from her torturer, a Danish citizen of Lebanese background.

She had been held captive for 9 days in a shed in the Sydhavnen district of Copenhagen where she had been beaten with an electric cable and subjected to other acts of violence by her boyfriend, a 19 year old Danish citizen from Lebanon. Sunday afternoon she managed to break out of her prison, climbed a fence and broke into a store, where she found a telephone and called her family.

The woman is now in hospital with extensive body damages. She had received almost nothing to eat and drink during the nine days. She has bruises from the beating and burns from cigarettes and from molten plastic that has been dripped onto her body. Her front teeth are knocked out, she has bleedings in both eyes, she has stab wounds all over her body and possibly a broken mandible. Part of her hair is burned away and her finger and toe nails are damaged, probably caused by pliers according to the police. A piece of her right thumb is missing.

She has extensive burn lesions on her legs from previous episodes of violence. The burns are caused by boiling water according to her own statement.

The violence has taken place over a period of one year, but has escalated drastically during the last month, according to the girl. The man threatened to kill her family if she reported him. Also, he has forbidden her to speak to her mother, because she is a Christian.

She is now under police protection, from fear that the family of the young man will try to harm her.

Authorities mum on Krekar’s latest provocation

Controversial refugee Mullah Krekar, who continues to reside in Oslo pending deportation, has sparked more outrage after he defended the killing of an Australian journalist in Iraq. Norwegian authorities, however, aren’t commenting since they consider his case closed.

* Can you tell me what’s ‘controversial’ about that?

Krekar has been officially kicked out of Norway, following the Norwegian Supreme Court’s recent rejection of his appeal to stay. He remains in Norway only because he faces a death sentence if returned to Iraq now, and Norwegian authorities thus are prevented from sending him back.

A government spokesperson told news bureau NTB that Norwegian officials are finished with his case, and had no comment on the latest batch of controversial remarks Krekar reportedly made to an Australian television station.

ABC of Australia reported that Krekar said in an interview due for broadcast on Tuesday that he is allowed to kill Australian soldiers in Iraq. He said that according to Islam, he can also kill their interpreters and people who give them food, water or medicine, because it’s a war situation in Iraq.

ABC reported in a synopsis of the interview that Krekar also urged his followers to kill both Australian and American soldiers.

Krekar also justified the killing of Australian journalist Paul Moran in 2003, telling ABC’s reporter that Moran “was also our enemy.”

The ABC report reveals that Krekar had detailed information on Moran’s killing, including what the Saudi Arabian suicide bomber who killed him was doing during the final minutes of his life. That suggests Krekar continues to control or at least be involved with insurgents in Iraq.

Wenche Rasch of the Norwegian ministry in charge of immigration affairs said that if it’s true Krekar continues to encourage criminal acts, it’s a case for the police and prosecutors. She added, though, that there’s little chance Krekar can be interned until he’s ultimately deported.

First reports said the 23-year-old fired a dozen shots in the prayer room on the first storey of the Islamic centre where there were about 10 people present, the Vaud cantonal police said in a statement, AFP reported. A 43-year-old Swiss Muslim was seriously wounded in the abdomen, but he was expected to recover. The shooter, whose motives were unknown, was overpowered and immobilized on the floor. He had been spotted earlier in the evening in nearby Bussigny-pres-Lausanne and police were following him, arriving very quickly on the scene. The man used a weapon and ammunition given to him by the Swiss army. All Swiss citizens have to carry out military service.

Abbas, the Palestinian president, has told Israel it can live in peace if it ends its occupation of Arab lands.

He said “the voice of peace will be stronger and louder” with more participants attending, but he said Syria had not worked towards achieving peace.

Imad Moustapha, Syria’s ambassador to the US, last week called the talks a “waste” and a “photo opportunity”.

Turkey, Israel’s closest ally in the Islamic world, has in the past played the role of mediator between the Jewish state and its Muslim neighbours.

He told the paper: “There is a disproportionate amount of discussion surrounding us. The air is thick with suspicion and unease. It is not good for the Muslim community, it is not good for society.”

The Muslim leader continued: “Every society has to be really careful so that situation does not lead us to a time when people’s minds can be poisoned as they were in the 1930s.

“If your community is perceived in a very negative manner and poll after poll says that we are alienated then Muslims begin to feel very vulnerable.

“We are seen as creating problems, not as bringing anything, and that is not good for society.”

The Government’s foreign policy and particularly the Iraq war, which he described as a “disaster”, had been used by criminals as a weapon to encourage young people into extremism, he said.

Dr Bari also criticised the head of MI5, Jonathan Evans, for painting a bleak picture of the terrorist threat the night before the Queen’s Speech this week. He said: “I don’t think it was a good thing to share information in this way, I think it is creating a scare in the community and wider society. It probably helps some people who try to recruit the young to terrorism.”

The leader believes integration should be a two-way process and that the emphasis should be on the positive aspects of Muslim culture instead of the threat of al Qaida.

Muslim principles – including stricter attitudes to drinking, sex, marriage, abortion and dress – could improve the country as a whole and add more morality, he argues. Older people have gone through all sorts of things and become a bit more experienced.”

The Muslim Brotherhood: A Moderate Islamic Alternative to al-Qaeda or a Partner in Global Jihad?

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Iran, Turkey and Malaysia are planning to build an “Islamic car” that will have a compass to find the direction of Makkah, Malaysia’s state news agency reported.

The proposed car will also have a compartment for the Quran and prayer scarves, the Bernama agency quoted an official of Malaysian automaker Proton as saying.

“The car will have all the Islamic features and should be meant for export purposes,” said Proton’s managing director, Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir.

“We will identify a car that we can develop to be produced in Malaysia, Iran or Turkey,” he said during a visit to Tehran.

Syed Zainal said the vehicle was an Iranian initiative. “What they (Iran) want to do is to call that an Islamic car,” he said.

The managing director said that with government support, the Islamic car producers will be able to get a big volume of orders.

Let’s stop pretending all faiths are equal

Religions and cultures that deny women basic equality, or exploit and abuse them, are, as far as I am concerned, a bad thing. I don’t feel the slightest obligation to respect them or to allow them to bring their practices into this country. However, the problem for Cherie Blair, not least during the visit here of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, is that in the western liberal agenda we are supposed to offer equal respect and equal rights to all cultures and all religions, and to people’s universal right to live according to them and to practise their faiths as they understand them. But you simply can’t. You can either have universal human rights, or you can have the universal human right to ignore them for cultural or religious reasons – not both.

If a culture or a religion does not share Cherie Blair’s absolute belief in universal human rights, then how can she respect it? And, for that matter, why should she expect them to respect her opposing beliefs? She spoke on Radio 4 of honouring people’s religious beliefs, when freely adopted, but why? Incidentally, as for Islam being freely adopted, a large proportion of young British Muslims think that the penalty for abandoning the faith should be death. There is not a great deal of freedom in Islam which, after all, means submission.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – In the annals of excess, it could be a new high: a more than $300 million, super-sized luxury airplane, bought and outfitted solely for the private comfort of a Saudi Arabian billionaire.

Once done, the Airbus A380, the world’s biggest passenger plane, will be a “flying palace” for Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, the manufacturer announced Monday.

Airbus SAS would not give a specific price tag for the VIP double-decker jet, with its football field-length wings, saying only that it would cost more than the aircraft’s list price of $320 million.

That doesn’t even include the money the prince will spend to custom fit the nearly 6,000-square foot plane to include whatever he wants. The options include private bedrooms, a movie theater or even a gym with a jacuzzi. He’ll also need a flight crew of about 15 to operate the luxury liner.

“Prince Alwaleed is the first, and so far the only customer of this aircraft,” said David Velupillai, the spokesman of the Airbus, which announced the luxury order at the Dubai International Airshow.

It’s all just spending cash for bin Talal — Citigroup Inc.’s biggest individual shareholder and the world’s 13th richest person with assets around $20 billion.

Fitzgerald: Money can buy everything, except civilization

Everyone in the world knows that the Saudis do not work, have not worked, and will not work. A few go to the office for a few hours. Officially the work day for Saudis is about three hours, where they chatter and check on their investments and busily order non-Saudis about. And the same goes for the Emirates and Kuwait and the rest of these places. Every single expatriate who has endured, for the dough, these awful — morally awful, socially awful — places knows this, and comes away merely counting the banknotes as the only consolation.

The Administration should be figuring out every possible way to diminish the oil wealth of the rich Arab and Muslim states. In so doing, it will necessarily have to tax oil and, especially, gasoline. It ought to have done so long ago, in 1973, in order then to recapture oligopolistic rents that otherwise were going to OPEC oil producers. The gasoline tax should have been imposed with great fanfare, and the government should have committed to a steady rise in that tax, ensuring to car manufacturers, and to those in charge of mass transit programs, that the price would never go down. A powerful Saudi lobby, consisting of all those who were sure, or at least pretended to be sure, that Saudi Arabia was our “ally” and would ensure “price moderation” (whatever that meant), helped prevent such an energy policy. The Western hirelings of Saudi Arabia have not only helped them to continue to fund, without being stopped, mosques and madrasas and campaigns of Da’wa all over the West, but have helped them to prevent an energy policy that might have headed off the environmental disasters, including the loss of 90% of the world’s species, that are now almost certain to occur.

Though Saudi Arabia and the other undeservedly rich Arab and Muslim oil states have been the recipients of the largest transfer of wealth in human history, some ten trillion dollars since 1973 alone (and there was plenty in the decades before that), without having lifted a finger to deserve it, they have failed everywhere to create modern economies. Now they talk grandly of “economic cities” they will build. But what Saudis have learned, or will learn, how to work? The Muslim Arab tradition honors not work but rather wealth gathered through raiding parties, or from the Jizyah received from non-Muslims, or from trading. Nothing is made by the Saudis or other Arab oil sheikdoms and countries. Nothing is offered by way of services. They are rentier states. And what is still more maddening, they have somehow been allowed to get the Western world to pay for, to offer up a disguised Jizyah to, all of the oil-poor Arabs and Muslims. It is not Saudi Arabia that spent tens of billions on aid to Iraq, not Saudi Arabia that has given Egypt more than $60 billion in the last few decades, or close to $30 billion (Selig Harrison’s calculation) to Pakistan since the 9/11/2001 attacks. It is not Saudi Arabia but the West that keeps piling money into the pockets of the corrupt “Palestinian” Authority, billions of which disappeared when Arafat died (where did it go? does anyone care?), and that continues to go to Arafat’s cronies, now performing their routine as mild-mannered and sober and eminently trustworthy accountants.

Fitzgerald: Why the Saudi charm offensive will fail
The mere fact that the Saudis are worried enough to be conducting this worldwide charm offensive by Muslims and especially Saudis –e.g., King Abdullah’s meeting with the Pope — is a good thing. That is, it’s a good thing as long as Infidels maintain a healthy skepticism about that charm offensive, since it comes along with the usual smoke-and-mirrors, delivered by solemn, gravelly-voiced Abdullah or some other among the fungible Al-Saud. (God, what with the daggers and dishdashas, and the double-layer goatee, and the sinister mien, they are so hard to keep apart, aren’t they?) In any case, it is not having the effect that the Muslim propagandists and their Saudi paymasters thought it would.

But you really start wondering whether all these Western ‘negotiators’ like the clueless Rice and her predecessors ever spent a moment listening or read the Hamas or the Fatah charters. Saeb Erekat, chief negotiator for the Palestine Liberation Organization, rejected on Monday the government’s demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state.

In an interview with Israel Radio, Erekat said that “no state in the world connects its national identity to a religious identity.”

* Really? How about the Islamic Republic of Iran? Pakistan? Saudi Arabia? Even Libya’s Gaddafi has given his country the Islamic label. And you have a problem with a Jewish state, Saeb?

Also Monday, dozens of prominent Palestinian residents of Jerusalem published an appeal to the Abbas, asking him not to make concessions to Israel over the holy city in the upcoming talks.

The full-page newspaper ad, signed by 108 prominent Jerusalemites, including top Christian and Muslim leaders, did not make specific demands. However, the signatories asked Abbas not to negotiate a deal that would “violate our national rights.”

“Israel should return all of east Jerusalem, the area it captured in the 1967 Mideast War and annexed to its capital,” said signatory Adnan Hussein, an adviser to Abbas on Jerusalem affairs.

Earlier Monday, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that the starting point for all negotiations with the Palestinians will be the “recognition of Israel as a state for the Jewish people,

This recognition is meant to bolster Israel’s position that rejects the return of Palestinian refugees to areas inside the Green Line – the border before the 1967 Six-Day War.

“We won’t hold negotiations on our existence as a Jewish state, this is a launching point for all negotiations,” Olmert said.

“We won’t have an argument with anyone in the world over the fact that Israel is a state of the Jewish people. Whoever does not accept this cannot hold any negotiations with me. This has been made clear to the Palestinians and the Americans. I have no doubt that Abu Mazen [Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas] and [PA premier Salam] Fayad are committed to prior agreements and want to make peace with Israel as a Jewish state,” Olmert continued.

Olmert also stated this position at a meeting on Sunday to discuss the peace summit scheduled for the end of the month in Annapolis and the negotiations toward a final-settlement agreement. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi and the heads of the intelligence services attended the meeting.

Olmert told the gathering that immediately at the start of negotiations following the summit, Israel will set a precondition that the Palestinians recognize Israel as “a Jewish state.”

“I do not intend to compromise in any way over the issue of the Jewish state,” Olmert said, thereby accepting the position of Livni and Barak. “This will be a condition for our recognition of a Palestinian state.”

Olmert said he raised the importance of this issue during his talks with European and American officials, and their response had been positive.

However, during talks in recent weeks between the Israeli and Palestinian negotiating teams, the Palestinians refused to include the recognition of Israel as a Jewish state in the shared declaration the teams are preparing, which will be made at Annapolis. Erekat’s statement to Israel Radio on Monday did not seem to imply that refusal would waver ahead of the summit.

Olmert also confirmed at Monday’s meeting that talks with the Palestinians were proceeding in a new direction, toward negotiations over a final-status deal, despite the fact that the first stage of the U.S.-backed road map had not been implemented.

The first stage of the road map calls on the Palestinians to dismantle terror groups. The sides had agreed recently that talks would proceed according to the document.

In recent weeks, politicians from the right, especially MK Yisrael Katz (Likud), have taken to accusing the government of holding negotiations outside of road map dictates.

Olmert essentially confirmed those accusations. “There is a new outline,” he said. “The traditional position has been that there will be no road map implementation without the first phase. I came to the conclusion that we are somewhat able to change the tradition.”

Meanwhile, despite Palestinian claims that there is a crisis in the talks, Livni and Qureia exchanged drafts of the joint declaration that Israel and the Palestinians are to present at the Annapolis summit.

Government officials did not deny reports in recent days that Israel had surprisingly softened its stance on the core issues – particularly on borders and Jerusalem.

The prime minister was scheduled to appear before the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Monday morning to present the principles that will guide Israel in the negotiations with the Palestinians.

Give it away, Peres: Peace in our time

ANKARA (AFP) – Israeli President Shimon Peres pledged Monday that his country would work for a tangible result at an upcoming US-sponsored Middle East peace conference, saying that the Jewish state is ready to make peace with the Palestinians.

“Israel has decided to make Annapolis a success, to bring an end to the conflict, to finally make peace between the Palestinians and ourselves,” Peres told a news conference here after talks with his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul.

“It takes time to make peace… but I believe we can make peace now with the Palestinians,” he said.

Our World: Islam and the nation-state

MUSLIM MINORITIES throughout the world are being financed and ideologically trained in Saudi and UAE funded mosques and Islamic centers. These minorities act in strikingly similar manners in the countries where they are situated throughout the world. On the one hand, their local political leaders demand extraordinary communal rights, rights accorded neither to the national majority nor to other minority populations. On the other hand, Muslim neighborhoods, particularly in Europe, but also in Israel, the Philippines and Australia, are rendered increasingly ungovernable as arms of the state like the police and tax authorities come under attack when they attempt to assert state power in these Muslim communities.

According to University of Columbia’s Arabic and Islamic Studies Professor George Saliba, “Islamic science” virtually created the modern world. This is a bit odd, since Saliba has reviewed the work done by scholar Toby E. Huff, which concludes that Islamic countries largely failed in developing modern science. I have made a series of posts about this issue myself at Jihad Watch. These posts have also been translated to German, and I made a slightly longer essay about this available at the Gates of Vienna blog. I have also had the pleasure of reading Huff’s book The Rise of Early Modern Science: Islam, China and the West, second edition. If anything, I believe he is sometimes too kind with the Islamic world.
He writes: “Our concern is with the fact that from the eighth century to the end of the fourteenth, Arabic science was probably the most advanced science in the world, greatly surpassing the West and China. In virtually every field of endeavor – in astronomy, alchemy, mathematics, medicine, optics, and so forth – Arab scientists (that is, Middle Eastern individuals primarily using the Arabic language but including Arabs, Iranians, Christians, Jews, and others) were in the forefront of scientific advance. The facts, theories, and scientific speculations contained in their treatises were the most advanced to be had anywhere in the world, including China.”

I’m glad he specifies that by the term “Arab science” he actually means anybody who happened to live under Arab-Islamic rule, not necessarily Arab Muslims. Nevertheless, I don’t approve of the term. Whatever was achieved in science during this time period was rarely done by Arab Muslims. “Islamic science” was almost totally dependent upon translations, frequently made by non-Muslims, of the achievements of pre-Islamic cultures, Greeks, Egyptians, Indians, etc. Moreover, a striking number of Muslim thinkers were Persians, who owed more to their pre-Islamic heritage than they did to Islam. Still, I consider Huff’s work to be one of the best books I have read on the subject of early modern science.

The video shows a counterdemonstration of local Muslims. The latter, raising their fists, shout: “Fascists! Fascists!” followed by “Allah Akhbar.”

The VB people across the street, behind a banner “Stop Islamisering”, shout: Geen moskee in onze buurt (No mosque in our neighborhood). The only Nazis I see are the Muslims channeling the Brown Shirts.
