On Harry’s Place, Dave Rich makes some good points about the now common analogy that is drawn between Israel and the Nazis, or Gaza and the Warsaw Ghetto, as used by such Israel-haters as George Galloway, Jenny Tonge, the British Muslim Initiative and others. Its import, as he says, lies in far more than its mere offensiveness and demonstrable barmyness. It is used for very specific political purposes. Since Nazism is totally beyond the pale – and since the Israel-haters believe, falsely, that Israel’s legitimacy rests upon the Holocaust – tarring it as a Nazi state delegitimises it and thus advances the agenda of its destruction.

But Rich points out a further consequence of demonising Israel in this way:

If Israel is a Nazi state, then anybody who does not oppose Israel is morally no better than a Nazi. There is only one place this train of thought can end: with the demonisation and social isolation of the vast majority of ordinary British Jews.

What do you think CAIR’s objective is here? Obviously they want the FBI to stop placing informants in mosques, and to trust their assurances that they will help them with anti-terror efforts. Yet CAIR has opposed every anti-terror initiative that has ever come down the pike, most notably the Patriot Act. It aided the Flying Imams in their lawsuit against the passengers who reported them for suspicious behavior — a lawsuit that, had it succeeded, would have made Americans afraid to report suspicious behavior in airports for fear of being sued. And now CAIR wants informants out of the mosques — despite the fact, as Pamela points out here, that studies show that jihad violence and Islamic supremacism are taught in the vast majority of American mosques. If the FBI turns a blind eye to what is going on in the mosques, who will be the sole beneficiary?

An attacker stabbed a US citizen in front of his wife in a popular Cairo tourist area on Friday in the second attack on foreigners in the Egyptian capital in less than a week, security sources said

They said the American, a teacher in his fifties in an American school in the coastal city of Alexandria, was with his wife and a friend when he was lightly wounded in an unprovoked attack in a tourist area that is home to the 14th century Khan el-Khalili market.

On the occasion of its launch in 2004 from near Buffalo, New York, the Muslim television channel “Bridges TV” won the enthusiastic support of Secretary of State Colin Powell’s media assistant, Stuart Holliday: “I laud your expression of interest in promoting understanding and tolerance.” And so it went; Bridges TV also met with euphoric media coverage, uncritical academic reaction, and blessings from sports giants like Muhammad Ali and Hakeem Olajuwan.

On the political level, its raison d’être was based on the canard that Muslims in the United States suffer from bias and are victimized. On the ideological level, Bridges TV was a fraud, pretending to be moderate when it was just another member of the “Wahhabi lobby.” Endorsed by some of the worst Islamist functionaries in the country (Nihad Awad, Ibrahim Hooper, Iqbal Yunus, Louay Safi), it was an extremist wolf disguised in moderate sheep’s clothing.

Being on the House of Saud’s payroll, directly or indirectly, should render one ineligible for subsequent government service. Matt Welch said it best a few years back: If you listen to former U.S. ambassadors to Saudi Arabia with your eyes closed, they sound like Saudis.

 If the Saudis nuked Delaware, the massed ranks of former ambassadors would be telling Larry King that, obviously, even the best allies have their difficulties from time to time, but this is essentially a little hiccup that can be smoothed over by closer consultation.

Good news coming out of Washington, where the appointment of the Saudi/Chinese Government Lobbyist Chas Freeman Jr is beginning to receive some Congressional Noise. 

Eli Lake of the Washington Times has the scoop about Republican objections to the appointment. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) wants the intel IG to review Freeman’s ties to Saudi money. This is from a letter Kirk is circulating among his colleagues: 

Given his close ties to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, we request a comprehensive review of Ambassador Freeman’s past and current commercial, financial and contractual ties to the Kingdom to ensure no conflict of interest exists in his new position.
