*  Though this study is revealing, it fails to note the correlation between religion and honor-killings. In other words, of all the honor-killings that occur, what percentage of them are at the hands of Muslims, Christians, Jews, etc.? Who, pray tell, has the lion’s share? “Honor killing perpetrators welcomed by society, study reveals,” from Today’s Zaman, July 12 (thanks to JW):

A study being conducted by a team from Dicle University in the Southeast on honor killings has so far shown that little if any social stigma is attached to the act. 

Anthropologists, sociologists, psychologists and social workers are involved in the study, due to conclude in August. Associate Professor Mazhar Bagli from Dicle University Department of Sociology is supervising the study. (Seems all of the are clueless about Islam or are desperately trying to keep Islam out of it…)

The team visited 44 prisons in the region and interviewed 180 perpetrators of honor killings. Of these, 100 percent say they do not regret their actions, Professor Bagli notes. In some cases, the victim’s relatives even praised the perpetrator, he adds.

Causes of honor killings vary. “It is not appropriate to associate honor killings with only one section of society. Some people think that it is related to a feudal structure, but this has proven to be false. There are also perpetrators who are well-educated university graduates. Of all those surveyed, 60 percent are either high school or university gradates or at the very least, literate. The victims of honor killing are not always women; males have also been targeted,” Bagli says.

Learned analysts insist that the conflicts in the Middle East today are not religious, but purely political. But Islam rejects any distinction between the sacred and secular, and is inherently political as well as religious.

As tensions in the Middle East continued to grow, they warned that the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah had already established sleeper cells in Britain and mainland Europe tasked with carrying out bloody reprisals.

Likely UK targets include nuclear power stations, military bases, Government buildings and high-profile politicians and members of the Jewish community.

Richard Kemp, former adviser on terrorism to Tony Blair, said the difficulty of attacking Western and Israeli military targets directly meant Iran was likely to use its terror network to retaliate. Hezbollah, formed in Lebanon in the 1980s, has grown to become a major force in the Middle East.

Guru’s of the World, Unite!

* The Darling Guru of the peace & love generation, the Dalai Lama, can do no wrong: like Peanut Khadr, he is seen as a ‘Man of Peace’, or even more so a “Man of Faith’. Hippies, Yuppies and DINKS (double income, no kids) sit beside ferals and peaceniks  from all the nations of the world to listen to his indigestible schmooze as if it was heavenly wisdom. On the one hand, one could feel sorry for him for losing his feudal castle in the sky, on the other hand the Chinese may have more reasons than one for trying to bring Tibet into the modern age. But, as any properly indoctrinated PC-apostle will tell you: who are we to judge? And isn’t bringing a backward people forcibly into the modern age oppression? Yep, nobody should support the Chinese in their brutal tyranny of Tibet, but what can we in the West learn from a man like the Dalai Lama? Especially since he tells us that ‘Islam is a Religion of Peace’ (what would make him do that?)  And if he doesn’t know anything about Islam, wouldn’t it be better for him to keep his mouth shut?

The Dalai Lama said Sunday that “it’s totally wrong, unfair” to call Islam a violent religion.

The Tibetan spiritual leader, appearing at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, offered a defense of Islam in response to a question about the rise of violent religious fundamentalism. He added that he has made a point of reaching out to Muslims since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Apparently Obama believes that Islamic jihad is a result of U.S. foreign policy failure. This is an assumption that he shares with virtually everyone of any influence in both parties. They all think that this is a problem that we can make go away by doing something or stopping doing something else. The possibility that it might be a problem that doesn’t stem ultimately from our actions and cannot be ended by our actions never seems to occur to anyone.

ROTHERHAM’S Lord Ahmed has condemned plans to lock up terror suspects for 42 days without charge as an “outrageous proposal”.

In a hard-hitting attack, Labour peer Lord Ahmed said he feared the controversial Bill will “play into the hands of extremist groups” and “increase anti-Muslim feelings”.

“IMAGINE OUR JOY at being free and far from a land in which everything threatened us with death.” The young refugee’s words leap off the tattered clipping from a 1939 edition of La Esfera, a Venezuelan newspaper. “It is such a holy occurrence given that we were expelled from Germany and you have embraced us.” The refugee had arrived on one of two steamboats–the Koenigstein and the Caribia–that left Nazi Germany that year with a human cargo that would otherwise have been sentenced to death. The ships eventually docked in Venezuela, and the passengers who disembarked significantly increased the size of Venezuela’s Jewish community, which eventually grew to 45,000 people.
