Police arrested 17 people for rioting tonight in Copenhagen, burning cars and trash cans in Nørrebro, Tingbjerg, Vesterbro and Valby. All together 14 cars and 20 containers were set aflame, and there were 14 cases of vandalism. Police want to keep five people under arrest.

Residents of a building in the Nørrebro district had to be evacuated since police and the fire brigade feared the fire will spread to the building.

According to Jakob Kristensen of the Copenhagen police the riots were not organized and the fire brigade were able to do their job and extinguish the fire. Kristensen says the riots do not have to do with the reprinting of the Muhammad cartoons, which were a cause for a smaller, peaceful demonstration of 200 Muslims next to the municipality. Police were out in massive forces and quieted down the riots.

There was rioting also elsewhere in Denmark. In the Ã…rhus suburb of Brabrand (where the terrorists were arrested yesterday), a city bus was stoned and needed a police escort to continue. In both Brabrand and Kalundborg fire brigades were stoned and prevented from extinguishing blazes.

In Nørrebro social worker Bjarne Feys suggests setting up a new youth-run club for half-criminal immigrants in the neighborhood. He the young immigrants are very frustrated about the police’s stress strategy and react very irrationally. Today there’s only one active club, Kvisten, in inner Nørrebro, but according to Bjarne Feys it’s not big enough, or up to the task.

Mikkel Warming, in charge of social affairs at Copenhagen municipality, is positive about the idea to establish an immigrant youth center in the center of the Nørrebro melting pot. But integration consultant and author Mohammed Rafiq advises against it. He is afraid that those who support the suggestion have lost their judgment and that it will be misused by criminals to sell drugs and stolen goods.

Such a center will interfere with integration, since no Danes would come there and instead he suggests regular sports such as football and swimming, where Danish children and youth also take part.

 Hirsi Ali to EU lawmakers: ‘I don’t want to die’

I don’t want to die,” the Somali-born former Dutch deputy Ayaan Hirsi Ali told lawmakers at the European Parliament on Thursday in an appeal for EU funding to protect her from death threats.
“I don’t want to die, I want to live and I love life,” said Hirsi Ali, who faces death threats over her criticism of Islam. “I find myself in a very desperate position.”

Hirsi Ali has been living under tight police protection since the murder of her associate, Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh, by an Islamic extremist in 2004.

She is threatened with death for her role in writing the script of Van Gogh’s film “Submission”, about the treatment of women in Islam. A note targeting her by name was found on his body.

The former Dutch lawmaker left the Netherlands for the United States in May 2006 following a bitter row which broke out when she admitted lying about her age and name in her Dutch asylum request.

She is currently raising funds to pay for her own protection and works for a conservative think-tank, the American Enterprise Institute in Washington.

Hirsi Ali does not receive financial support for her protection from the Dutch government while she is out of the country, and for legal reasons the United States cannot cover her costs.

“Since October I have been fund-raising full-time,” she said.

“It has become swiftly apparent that the best I can do is raise enough money to pay for the security detail that accompanies me to fund-raising meetings. When the money runs out I am confined in hiding.”

Socialist members of the parliament have launched a petition to secure support for EU funding for her protection.

But with only 82 signatures so far, they are unlikely to receive backing from half of the assembly’s 785 members, as is required for the initiative to become official.

French Socialist Benoit Hamon has called for another option that would see the creation of a “pilot programme that would protect other citizens like Ayaan Hirsi Ali who are also under attack for what they say.”

It could be financed to the tune of 50 million euros by a fund that the parliament has at its disposal each year.

Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah accused Israel of killing Imad Mughniyeh and has vowed to retaliate.

He made the threat in a video-taped message played at Mughniyeh’s funeral, where large crowds of mourners gathered to farewell the man who’s been labelled the bin Laden of the 80s and 90s.

Nasrallah, who rarely appears in public for fear of assassination, told viewers that if Israel wanted this kind of open war, then there would be an open war.

 Sarkozy attacks Iran for its stance on Israel

 PARIS (Reuters) – French President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Wednesday he would refuse to greet any world leader who refused to recognise Israel — a remark apparently ruling out any face-to-face meetings with Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Sarkozy made the off-the-cuff remark in a speech to the French-Jewish community in which he reaffirmed his strong support for international sanctions against Tehran over its nuclear programme.

“I won’t shake hands with people who refuse to recognise Israel,” Sarkozy declared.

Ahmadinejad, Iran’s hardline president, has in the past called for the Jewish state to be “wiped off the map”.

France has led the way in pressing for sanctions at the U.N. Security Council and in the European Union to get Iran to halt atomic work which Western powers fear is aimed at making bombs.

It recently urged energy companies Total and Gaz de France to refrain from investing in the OPEC country.

Iran says its nuclear programme is a peaceful drive to generate electricity.

“Proliferation is a grave threat to international security. We cannot sit by and do nothing while Iran develops technologies which are in violation of international law,” Sarkozy said.

“Given that Iran has chosen the fait accompli we do not have any other choice but to strengthen its isolation that involves new sanctions at the Security Council and the European Union,” he said. 

Sarkozy announced he would visit Israel in May to mark the 60th anniversary of Israel’s founding after a March visit to Paris by Israel President Shimon Peres.

Whatever Rowan Williams does from here on in, his call for Britain to accommodate the Islamic legal system of sharia law is what he will always be remembered for.

With the General Synod now in full swing, perhaps the time has come for non-Anglicans to withdraw from intruding on private grief because there is a far bigger and scarier problem to be considered in the wake of Dr Williams’s outburst than the shambles that is the CofE.

It is this: while the Arch bishop and his fellow travellers spout their nonsense, the leaders of British Islam still don’t appreciate the degree to which their behaviour is despised by the majority of the public.

Unless they give up their obsession with grievance and victimhood and instead under stand the need to integrate and contribute positively, Britain will slide towards segregation and civil strife.

There are plenty of opinion polls which highlight the views of the estimated two million Muslims in this country. Apparently, 40 per cent wish to live under sharia law. But there never seem to be any polls highlighting what the rest of us think about the Muslims in our midst. I wonder why?

Consider which of these statements best reflects your own view:

a) Britain would be a better country if there were more Muslims living here.

b) There is the right number of Muslims in Britain to serve the country’s interests.

c) It would be preferable if Britain did not have a large Muslim population at all.

Got an answer yet? I bet it wasn’t A. The ferocity and extent of the backlash against Dr Williams demonstrates that the British people feel their hospitality has been abused and will brook no further compromise with radical Islam.

The foreign ministers of Syria, Egypt and Morocco spoke against the film with Dutch State Secretary for Social Affairs and Employment Ahmed Aboutaleb, a Muslim himself, at the ministerial meeting that ended Tuesday, The Times of Malta reported.

Dutch far right leader Geert Wilders is behind the 15-minute film (Fitna), which according to advance reports denounces the Koran as a fascist book and claims it incites people to murder.

Political leaders worry about another flare-up of cross-cultural conflict similar to the one which erupted in early 2006 after the Danish publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed.

Aboutaleb, who was stepping in for his country’s foreign affairs minister at the conference, told Malta’s main newspaper he had talks about the matter.

“My role in this discussion here is to explain to our Arab friends that we have a Constitution in which freedom of speech is guaranteed…which means that there is no need, especially, so far, for the government to intervene,” he said.

“We cannot and do not want to intervene,” he insisted, stressing, however, that the case could still be brought before the courts on the grounds of racial hatred or discrimination.

Aboutaleb insisted that he expected the Muslim communities not to retaliate violently but to fight back using the same weapon of freedom of expression.

Sweden: Terror suspects had map of Vilks’ house

Sweden’s Economic Crimes Bureau (EBM) has confiscated a map of the SkÃ¥ne home of artist Lars Vilks, along with documents on military night-vision binoculars.

‘Terror plot to kill 1000’

THE leader of a Melbourne-based terrorist group talked of planned an attack that would kill 1000 people, a Melbourne terror trial heard today.

Abdul Nacer Benbrika, 47, said that in order to make the Government withdraw Australian troops from Iraq a large-scale operation was needed.

Prosecutor Richard Maidment SC said that Mr Benbrika, in conversation with another member of the terror group, said an attack was needed that “would make the Government sit up and take notice”.

“They were intending something big,” Mr Maidment told the jury in his opening statement.

“To cause maximum damage. To cause the death of a thousand…. by use of a bomb.”

The group of Melbourne men bent on violent Jihad planned terrorist attacks on football games or train stations to maximise deaths, the jury was told.

And the director and leader of the alleged terrorist group in Melbourne gave them permission to kill women, children and the elderly, the court heard.

The prosecutor said that according to Mr Benbrika Australia was a country at war and used the term ‘Kuffur’ to describe infidels who did not believe in violent Jihad.

Mr Maidment said that Mr Benbrika believed that it was permissable in pursuit of violent Jihad to kill and steal from the Kuffur.

In other words, you must not educate yourselves about the context of these men’s actions. To do so would be prejudiced. Of course, Justice Bernard Bongiorno is himself pre-judging that no such material would be relevant or illuminating in this case, and assuming that Islam has nothing to do with it on a priori grounds and almost certainly in defiance of the defendants’ own sentiments. But that’s not prejudice.

“There are people in our community who hold, and sometimes express, attitudes which might be regarded as hostile to, or discriminatory towards, Muslims simply because they are Muslims,” Justice Bongiorno said.

“There is no place for such a person on a jury in this case. No place whatsoever.”

* Due process, rule of law, a ‘fair go’-, yes: all well and good, Justice Bongiorno . But when you’re dealing with a genocidal ideology, with brainwashed (or rather brain dead) zombies, a mammoth trial by clueless judges and equally clueless jurors is not doing justice to the people of this country. Neither can these jihad warriors be penalized by giving them creature comforts and halal food in jail: only the death penalty would be a deterrent, but we give them prayer mats and allow them to proselytize with their filthy book, the Koran, instead. The soldiers of Allah, those who infiltrated to annihilate us, who want to ‘strike terror in the hearts of the infidels’-, they need be dealt with swiftly by military courts and by judges who understand the jihad threat. And their brood needs to be stripped of citizenship and shipped out to an Islamo-hole of their choice, collectively.
