MANILA, Philippines — A powerful explosion ripped through three floors of a shopping mall in the heart of Manila’s financial district Friday, killing eight people, injuring scores and sending police and troops on the highest state of alert.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said “circumstances indicate it is highly probable that it was caused by an explosive device.” The same mall was targeted by a bombing in 2000.

National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales said authorities were looking into a possible terrorist attack, but “there is no conclusive evidence yet.”

Mario Em, a taxi driver, said he had just dropped two women off at the mall when the blast hurled the passengers against his vehicle, killing them instantly.

At least eight people were killed and more than 70 were injured, said metropolitan Manila police chief Geary Barias.

A body set up by David Cameron to advise the Conservatives on Muslim issues has criticised the Government’s relationship with Israel and concluded that Iran has “legitimate” reasons for wanting nuclear weapons.

The Conservative Muslim Forum also wants the compulsory history curriculum in schools changed to give “full recognition to the massive contribution that Islam has made to the development of Western civilisation”.

The report says: “Regardless of whether one finds Israel a congenial country or not, on any objective assessment of the type of unqualified support given to Israel by the current government it is not conducive to British national interests as this could damage Britain’s relationships with 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide, including those in Britain.”

It concludes that passage with: “In all our dealings with Israel, we must remember the plight of the displaced Palestinians.”

The group calls on the party to be more sympathetic towards Iran. It says: “Given Iran’s position in the Middle East, facing a nuclear-armed Israel, Iran appears to have legitimate reasons for seeking nuclear weapons for defensive purposes.”

Qaradawi calls on Muslim Brotherhood to Embrace Jihad in Case of U.S. Attack on Iran

Yousef Qaradawi, the spiritual leader of the international Muslim Brotherhood, is reprising his role as mediator between the Sunni and Shi’ite groups. This time he is calling on all Muslims to defend Iran in case of a U.S. attack.

Qaradawi’s interview with Islamonline Radio last week highlights the sheikh’s role-and the role of the Muslim Brotherhood-in trying to bring about unity of the Muslim umma, regardless of one’s affiliation.

“It is obligatory on all Muslims to resist any possible attack the US might launch against Iran,” Qaradawi said. “Iran is a Muslim country which all Muslims should defend while the US is an enemy of Islam that has already declared war on Islam under the disguise of war on terrorism and provides Israel with unlimited support.”

In the past, the Ikhwan collaborated closely with the regime of Ayatollah Khommeini, according to the accounts of Yousef Nada and other Brotherhood leaders. There was a falling out, but the Brotherhood has consistently maintained that the Sunni-Shi’ite differences are “minor” issues that should not interfere with the larger strategy of restoring the caliphate.

Condoleezza Rice is here again this week, this time shuttling from Jerusalem to Ramallah to Cairo in her obsessive chase after a chimera of formal peace between a tired democracy whose paramount yearning is that its sons should no longer have to be soldiers, and Muslims who regard this Jewish democracy’s existence as an affront to their deepest values and even to God Allah.

The Jerusalem Post, which regularly pronounces itself in favor of a “two-state solution,” noted in an editorial Tuesday that “While Palestinian leaders have repeatedly claimed to recognize Israel’s right to exist, they have never uttered the words ‘Jewish state.’”

In other words, since 1992 Israel, heavily urged on by the United States, has been pursuing a purported peace process with leaders—whether the openly brutal Yasser Arafat or the sedate, nicely dressed Mahmoud Abbas—who cannot bring themselves to utter that phrase.

A decade and a half ago, the pronouncement of “right to exist” without “Jewish state” was enough for Israel to set up, finance, and arm a Palestinian entity on land impinging on its population centers. Since then that entity has murdered over 1500 Israelis, mostly civilians, in terror attacks while injuring and traumatizing many thousands more—including, at this moment, the ongoing battery and traumatization of the Gaza-bordering town of Sderot with its twenty thousand residents.

Some Israelis, though, would still be willing to attribute great significance to the pronouncement of “Jewish state” by an almost-powerless leader without first requiring a transformation of Palestinian society from values of Jew-hatred and Israel-negation to values of peace and pluralism. As the Post puts it:

If, however, Abbas is willing to formally recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state, and to abandon the demand for the demographic influx [of “refugees”] that would negate it, the path to substantive progress would be opened.

But even with all this dangling before him, Abbas still doesn’t take the bait. During Rice’s press conference with him in Ramallah on Monday, Rice “urged Israel and the Palestinians to agree on how and when to start formal peace talks.” Abbas, though, “responded by saying Israel would have to make concessions in order to do so.”

In other words—first concessions, then peace talks.

As for the concessions Abbas demanded—without yet having said “Jewish state”—they reportedly include

the withdrawal of Israel Defense Forces to the lines of September 28, 2000, before the second intifada erupted, the evacuation of settlements, the reopening of Palestinian institutions in East Jerusalem and the release of all Palestinian prisoners. He added that Israel must allow 13 militants it exiled in 2002 to return to the West Bank.

No report anywhere says that Rice finally started to wonder if this man really wants peace or is worth such obsessive supplication by a superpower and leader of the Free World.

Those “13 militants,” for example, were among the most senior of the terrorists who holed themselves up for weeks in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem in 2002, during which they used the Bible as toilet paper among other desecrations. The 13 incurred the rather light punishment of being deported abroad—but now Abbas wants them back in the Palestinian Authority as a condition for beginning the “peace talks.”

Rice, though, instead of having any known misgivings about this whole endeavor, shuttled off to Cairo where Egyptian foreign minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit gave her more of the same, “warning the summit may be postponed unless a substantive agreement can be reached beforehand.”

Gheit also accused Israel—that disliked entity—of “trying to undermine U.S. efforts to achieve a real peace agreement between the two sides” and said in a statement that “Without addressing these attempts, then we have to seriously think of postponing the conference to another appropriate time.”

As the conference approaches, the Arab atmosphere of bullying and threats is intensifying. Ahmed Qurei—a former PA prime minister and currently head of the Palestinian negotiating team—didn’t mince words just last Thursday when he said, “If the talks fail, we can expect a third and much more severe intifada.”

Out of respect for the horrendous toll in blood brought on by previous Israeli-Palestinian “peace” events at the White House in September 1993 and at Camp David in summer 2000, Rice should take his words seriously and end the Annapolis preparations before another disaster ensues.

Think of the conferences of Berlin [circa 1878], Versailles [circa 1918-1920], and Munich [1938]. Today US secretary of state, Condoleeza Rice, arrived in Israel to pressure the basically unfit, incompetent, corrupt olmert government of Israel to make more concessions to the Arabs. She does this in the name of setting up a “palestinian state” for a fictitious people known as “palestinians” in the international media and diplomatic circles, claiming that such a state would bring peace with Israel in its wake. Yet, there never was a “palestinian” people in all history. Those now called palestinians are in fact Arabs and call themselves Arabs. The charter of the PLO states in Article I that the “Palestinian Arab people is part of the Arab nation and Palestine is part of the great Arab fatherland.” So they consider themselves Arabs first of all. Only Judeophobes pretend that they are a separate people.

The venomous animosity displayed by the UN towards Israel has been amply documented (if generally ignored). Now John Dugard, the UN human rights envoy for the Palestinian Territories, has vented a stream of this poison. BBC Online reports him saying that he will urge the world body to withdraw from the Quartet of Middle East mediators unless it addresses Palestinian human rights, since the US, EU, UN and Russia were failing to protect the Palestinians.

‘Every time I visit, the situation seems to have worsened,’ he said in a BBC interview. This time, I was very struck by the sense of hopelessness among the Palestinian people.’ Mr Dugard attributed this to ‘the crushing effect of human rights violations’, and in particular Israeli restrictions on Palestinians’ freedom of movement.

Yes, the Palestinians’ situation has worsened. This is principally the result of two things. a) The regime of terror instituted by the Hamas administration for which the Palestinians so unwisely voted and which is progressively making their lives a misery; and b) the restrictions imposed by the Israelis to counter the rockets which the Palestinians are lobbing at Israeli towns from Gaza, and the human bomb attacks they are ceaselessly attempting to perpetrate against Israelis. Strangely, Dugard makes no mention of either.

He said that although Israel did have a threat to its security, ‘its response is very disproportionate’.

Under the tough new measures, the government will also not recognise educational qualifications obtained from madrassas, or Islamic seminaries.

Maldivian authorities are holding more than 50 people suspected of links to a radical Islamic sect in connection with September’s bombing.

The robber then took off down N.C. 90 in a burgundy sport utility vehicle.

Authorities are looking into whether this bank robbery can be connected to one in Morganton. An androgynously dressed person held up a bank there last week.

Officers aren’t sure whether they’re looking for a man or a woman in either case.

Libya’s Terrorist Regime Rewarded With Seat in UN Security Council

Muammar al-Gaddafi, officially the “Guide of the First of September Great Revolution of the Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya”, is not the only socialist autocrat to be invited onto the powerful security council, whose five permanent members include China.

NEW YORK: Libya, once a pariah of the West, took a giant stride back to global respectability when it was elected along with four other countries today to a two-year term on the UN Security Council.

The US, which had used its influence to foil previous Libyan attempts in 1995 and 2000 to win a coveted seat on the powerful council, took no similar action this year, diplomats from other countries said.

Libya, Vietnam and the West African state of Burkina Faso easily obtained a two-thirds majority after being endorsed by regional groupings to stand unopposed for the three non-permanent seats available for African and Asian nations.

Also elected for terms starting on January 1 were Croatia, which defeated the Czech Republic in a contested race for an East European seat, and Costa Rica, which beat off a challenge from the Dominican Republic for a Latin American place.

US deputy UN ambassador Alejandro Wolff declined to say how he had voted, telling reporters only: “We look forward to working with all new members that are elected.” But he added: “I noticed that there were (Pan Am 103) family members … in the room, and I know others were watching. Their presence was felt here today.”

UN Watch condemns election of Qaddafi’s Libya to UN Security Council 

Geneva Oct. 16 –  UN Watch condemned the election of Libya today to the UN Security Council. “Electing Colonel Muammar Qaddafi to maintain international peace and security is like naming Jack the Ripper to fight sexual harassment,” said Hillel C. Neuer, executive director of the Geneva-based monitoring organization. “We’re also concerned with the election of Vietnam, a country that continues to deny its citizens fundamental political and religious liberties.”

Neuer expressed concern that “the West is silent as Libya is quickly acquiring a series of new and important UN posts — including its unanimous August election as head of the UN’s “Durban II” anti-racism process through 2009 – even as its record on human rights remains appalling.” The UN and African Union will meet in Libya at the end of the month for Darfur peace talks.

(ANSAmed) – – The Libyan debt with Bulgaria, amounting to USD41 million was cancelled by Sofia as a countermeasure for the liberation of the Bulgarian nurses sentenced to death in Libya, and will be transferred to the International Fund ‘Benghazi’ for the cure of Libyan children with AIDS, Sofiàs newspapers reported today. According to daily Dnevnik, the Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Feim Chaushev, and the Ambassador of the EU Commission to Tripoli, Marc Pierini, president of the fund, signed yesterday in Sofia an agreement with which Bulgaria cancels the Libyan debt and transfers the sum to the fund. In July, the fund paid a total USD460 million to the families of the over 400 Libyan children infected with the HIV virus in a hospital in Benghazi. More than eight years ago, the Libyan authorities accused the five Bulgarian nurses and a doctor of Palestinian origin, then naturalised Bulgarian, of having intentionally caused the contagion of the children and for this reason sentenced them to death. After the payment of the compensations, the relatives of the small victims withdrew their request of enforcement of the death sentence and the nurses and the doctor were afterwards released, and on their return to Bulgaria they were granted pardon. According to daily ‘Sega’, during a meeting with Pierini, the nurses asked to be considered by the EU as victims, and therefore they asked for compensations, as it happened with the families of the Libyan children sick with AIDS.(ANSAmed).

Cleric from Tunisia concealed criminal conviction in France, refugee board says

MONTREAL — A controversial, outspoken Muslim imam in Montreal was arrested yesterday and faces deportation after his refugee status was revoked for failing to disclose a past criminal conviction.

Saïd Jaziri, a 40-year-old maverick cleric from Tunisia, triggered an uproar in recent days after his appearance on a television talk show where he spoke of homosexuality as a sin.

The show, set up as a supper gathering, also raised eyebrows because other guests had to retreat to the kitchen to sip their wine because Mr. Jaziri said alcohol couldn’t be served in his presence.

But what led to his detention was an incident from his past – a criminal conviction for assault in the southern French city of Nice in 1995.

Last summer, an adjudicator from the Immigration and Refugee Board rescinded Mr. Jaziri’s residency status because he had concealed his criminal record when he applied for refugee status in 1998.

Mr. Jaziri has made varying claims to play down the issue.

In an interview with The Globe and Mail in June of 2006, he acknowledged that he was convicted in France but described it as a scuffle with non-Muslim residents outside a mosque.

Two months later, he told The Canadian Press that he was the victim of RCMP manipulation and that his record had been cleared after he agreed to co-operate with French officials.

According to a 1995 front-page newspaper account from Nice, Mr. Jaziri got an eight-month sentence for inciting fellow Muslims to beat up a less devout co-religionist – who was being blamed for the closure of their informal prayer room – in 1993 at a shelter for immigrants.

The newspaper article, reproduced in a recent book by journalist Fabrice de Pierrebourg on Montreal Muslim activists, also quoted Mr. Jaziri’s lawyer as saying that his client was willing to leave as soon as possible for Tunisia.

The imam of the Al Qods mosque in northeast Montreal, Mr. Jaziri has made headlines for campaigning in favour of faith-based sharia courts of law for Canadian Muslims.

He has also led demonstrations against the publication of caricatures of the prophet Mohammed, even as other leaders urged the community to stay clear of such events for fear of inflaming the situation.

A controversial rabid Muslim cleric hatemonger will remain in custody until his deportation next week after the Immigration and Refugee Board declared him a flight risk.

Imam Said Jaziri was ordered detained Wednesday following a nearly four-hour hearing in Montreal. He will be deported to his native Tunisia next Monday.

Syrian official slips, acknowledges nuclear facility

One U.S. delegate told colleagues he could not believe his ears when the Syrian diplomat made his statement and that the resulting document was close to verbatim, and another source told FOX News the document reinforces what people heard [the Syrian representative] say in the actual debate.

Syria already has disowned the remarks, adding “such facilities do not exist in Syria.”

The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency, SANA, quoting an unnamed Foreign Ministry source, said the U.N. press release misquoted the diplomat and that Syria had made it clear that there are no such facilities in Syria.
Syrian President Bashar Assad said earlier this month that the target is an “unused military building.”

A clip broadcast by Fatah-controlled Palestinian television this week shows a map in which Israel is painted in the colors of the Palestinian flag, symbolizing Israel turned into a Palestinian state.

The description of all the state of Israel as “Palestine” is not coincidental and is part of a formal educational approach throughout the Palestinian Authority. This uniform message of a world without Israel is repeated in school books, children’s programs, crossword puzzles, video clips, formal symbols, school and street names, etc. The picture painted for the Palestinian population, both verbally and visually, is of a world without Israel.

Somali government troops have stormed a UN compound in Mogadishu and arrested the World Food Programme chief in protest at a decision to distribute food relief through a network of mosques.
About 60 soldiers forced their way into the WFP offices yesterday morning, taking Idris Osman, a Somali national, into custody at gunpoint and locking him in a cell at the national security services headquarters. No reason was given for the arrest, which promoted an immediate suspension of WFP work in the war-torn capital.

But UN officials said it was linked to a new method of food distribution that began on Monday using 42 local mosques to get aid to more than 75,000 people in the city. The WFP, which is struggling to deal with a growing hunger crisis in Somalia, had been unable to directly distribute food in the capital since June 25 due to violence and looting. “Going through the mosques guaranteed us a level of security that the government cannot give,” said a UN official in Nairobi, who requested anonymity.
Though Somalia is almost completely Muslim, the transitional government views mosques, particularly in Mogadishu, with suspicion. The Somali Council of Islamic Courts, which took over the capital last year before being defeated by invading Ethiopian forces, used clerics to help draw in supporters fed up with more than a decade of anarchy in the country. Remnants of the Islamists’ militant wing are behind a growing insurgency in the capital, with roadside bombs, mortar attacks and gunfights claiming several innocent lives every day.

The authorities draw little distinction between civilians and the insurgents that live among them, so humanitarian assistance is often a source of tension. Mohamed Dheere, the mayor of Mogadishu and a close government ally, recently accused aid agencies of feeding terrorists by giving food aid to internally displaced people in camps near the capital.

Piracy, which was almost completely eliminated during the Islamic Courts’ six-month reign last year, is again rampant, making delivery of food aid by sea highly risky. UN officials believe that members of the government are the protecting the pirates, who demand ransoms of up to $1m (£500m) a ship.

A group of dozens of youths in the Slotervaart neighbourhood in western Amsterdam set cars on fire, damaged several other cars and threw stones through the windows of a police station.

The riots followed the death of 22-year old Dutch-born Bilal Bajaka, of Moroccan descent.

On Sunday, Bajaka entered the police station of Slotervaart, stabbing two police officers with a knife. Although having sustained serious injuries, one of the officers, a policewoman, shot and killed her alleged attacker on the spot. The two police officers were later brought to the hospital where their condition was described as “serious but stable.”

The police and Amsterdam municipality officials announced at a press conference Monday that a national investigation had been launched into the incident. The police also added that Bajaka had a criminal record.

From the age of 13 up to his death on Sunday, the police said, Bajaka had been involved in several major criminal incidents, including armed robberies and a series of violent incidents. He was allegedly part of a criminal gang.

In addition, police said he was personally acquainted with Mohammed Bouyeri, the convicted killer of the late film director Theo van Gogh, as well as with other Moroccan-Dutch terrorist suspects.

Moroccan-Dutch residents of Slotervaart complained to reporters they were “sick and tired” of continuous “negative news reports” about fellow Moroccan-Dutch, adding they felt increasingly stigmatized. [And what better way to counter those negative news reports than to riot and burn stuff? – ed.]

Several television reporters who came to report on the fatal incident at the police station were threatened by Moroccan-Dutch youths.

He indicated youths in the group were arrested frequently, only to be released soon afterwards, “because we want to be a constitutional state.”

In Islam, all non-Muslims are called unbelievers or infidels. The treatment of the infidels in Islam is divided into two categories. The polytheists, pagans, idolaters and heathens have the choice of converting to Islam or suffer death. Now, let us have a closer look at what the Koran says about the infidels:-

Qur’an 8:7 “Allah wished to confirm the truth by His words: ‘Wipe the infidels out to the last.’”

Qur’an 8:39 “So, fight them till all opposition ends and the only religion is Islam.”

Qur’an 8:59 “The infidels should not think that they can get away from us. Prepare against them whatever arms and weaponry you can muster so that you may terrorize them. They are your enemy and Allah’s enemy.”

The Qur’an certainly proclaims that when the time is appropriate, Muslims must use force to convert the unbelievers to Islam. For the non-Muslims, the alternative to this is to pay the humiliating protection money (Jizya tax) or be killed (by beheading, of course). A militarily dominant Islam, without doubt, precludes the peaceful co-existence with the unbelievers if the Muslims have to abide strictly by the unalterable stipulations of the Qur’an.

* This is why we see very few “moderate” muslims coming out and speaking against the violence. There is so much overwhelming evidence stacked against them not able to be “moderate” because of the fundamental belief’s of Islam.

In their report on Lars Vilks, the Swedish artist whose drawing of Mohammed as a dog has drawn death threats from the Religion of Peaceâ„¢,

CNN says Vilks should have known better.

Vilks, who has been a controversial artist for more than three decades in Sweden, says his drawing was a calculated move, and he wanted it to elicit a reaction. “That’s a way of expressing things. If you don’t like it, don’t look at it. And if you look at it, don’t take it too seriously. No harm done, really,” he says.

When it’s suggested that might prove an arrogant — if not insulting — way to engage Muslims, he is unrelenting, even defiant. “No one actually loves the truth, but someone has to say it,” he says.

Vilks, a self-described atheist, points out he’s an equal opportunity offender who in the past sketched a depiction of Jesus as a pedophile. [No death threats for that, of course. – ed.]

Still one could argue Vilks should have known better because of what happened in Denmark in 2005, when a cartoonist’s depictions of the prophet sparked violent protests in the Muslim world and prompted death threats against that cartoonist’s life.

*HOGANAS, Sweden (CNN) –– Swedish artist Lars Vilks says all he’s doing is taking a stand in the name of artistic expression. But because of that stand, on this afternoon he’s lying low — on the ground, in fact — looking for bombs under his car.
Al Qaeda has put a $100,000 price on his head and offered an extra $50,000 for anyone who murders him by slitting his throat after the eccentric artist and sculptor drew a cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohammed as a dog.

His crude, sketched caricature shows the head of Prophet Mohammed on the body of a dog. Dogs are considered unclean by conservative Muslims, and any depiction of the prophet is strictly forbidden.
“I don’t think it should not be a problem to insult a religion, because it should be possible to insult all religions in a democratic way, ” says Vilks from his home in rural Sweden.

“If you insult one, then you should insult the other ones.”

Burka Mama: coming to get you?

One Swedish Muslim woman who lives just an hour-and-a-half drive from Vilks said she hopes to make good on the al Qaeda threat and slaughter Vilks like a lamb.

“I can do this in the name of Allah, and I will not fail. I could slaughter him in the name of Allah,” says the woman who identified herself only as Amatullah.
She adds, “If I get the opportunity.”

Dressed in a black burqa from head to toe and uttering death threat after death threat, the woman — a wife and mother — says she is defending her religion and her prophet if she manages to kill Vilks.

Amatullah has already been fined for issuing death threats. Still, she claims she will never stop taunting him.
Swedish police, who declined CNN’s request for an interview, have advised Vilks to abandon his home.
But the artist still works there by day and travels to a safe house by night. Vilks knows his defiance could get him killed, but he says his art is worth dying for.

As he sits at his computer, his phone buzzes with a text message. Another death threat has just come in, this one from Pakistan.

“I will kill you, you son a bitch,” he reads.

MADRID, Spain – Thirty people went on trial Monday for allegedly plotting to blow up a court that is the hub of Spain’s anti-terror investigations.

Thirty people fanatical Islamo-terrorist scumbags went on trial Monday for  plotting to blow up a court that is the hub of Spain’s anti-terror investigations.

The 30 men, mostly Algerians, have been charged with membership of a terrorist organization, conspiracy to commit a terrorist attack and forgery.

The alleged mastermind Abderrahmane Tahiri, alias Mohamed Achraf, was extradited from Switzerland in April 2005.

Spanish authorities suspect Tahiri planned to ram a truck loaded with 1,100 pounds of explosives into the National Court in downtown Madrid.

“This was an organized and structured terrorist group, uncovered in November 2003, with radical Salafist tendencies, which defended the jihad (holy war) and intended carrying it out in Spain through violent actions such as that planned against the National Court and the persons within,” according to the indictment.

“With that explosion, they hoped to kill the persons within (judges, clerks and public in general) and destroy the files held against the ‘mujahedeen brotherhood’ inside,” the indictment said.

Investigating magistrate Fernando Grande-Marlaska said such an attack could have killed up to 1,000 people.

The prosecution is demanding sentences of between two and 46 years for the accused.

The trial is expected to last several months.

Police uncovered the alleged plot with the help of an unnamed informant who had lived with some of the accused.

In an initial investigation, Spanish Judge Baltasar Garzon claimed Tahiri set up a cell known as the “Martyrs for Morocco” while he served time in a Spanish prison for credit card fraud between 1999 and 2002.

Garzon said the cell had links with other Islamic terrorists, including the group believed to be behind the March 11 train bombings in Madrid that killed 191 people.
