The recent Coup d’Etat that toppled the democratically elected government of Thaksin Shinawatra by a gang of Muhammedan generals speaks volumes and stinks to high heaven: Thailand, a Buddhist country, is being taken over and slowly perverted into a Muhammedan cess-pool. The Thais, a traditionally apolitical and easygoing people, are totally clueless about the workings of the ‘RoP’ and the ideology that calls upon all peoples to either ‘accept Islam’-, to pay the jiziyah, or to be forcibly converted or killed.

Cop killed, school torched in Thailand

PATTANI, Thailand – Suspected Muslim separatists ambushed police patrols and torched a school as Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont returned to southern Thailand Saturday for a third attempt at ending the bloody insurgency, officials said.

A police sergeant was in critical condition after he was shot three times at close range while on patrol with three other officers in the busy market of Yala’s provincial capital, said police Maj. Suthas Noosikhong.

On Friday night, suspected insurgents killed a police sergeant in Pattani province and set fire to a government school in Yala province, totally destroying it.

Surayud, who arrived in southern Thailand Friday night, said he hoped for a peaceful solution to the conflict.

(Surayud is the muslim-general who toppled the government. Any doubt that he will support the jihad until Thailand is islamic?)

“My government is standing firm on reconciliation and a peaceful solution despite strong rumors and speculation that the situation is not improving,” he told some 1,000 community and religious leaders in Pattani province on Saturday.

On his first visit, Surayud offered an apology to the local Muslims for past government wrongdoing, which was widely praised by moderates in the south. But the insurgency has continued unabated.

More than 1,900 people have been killed since 2004 in Thailand’s three southernmost Muslim-majority provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani, where a Muslim separatist movement re-emerged after more than two decades of relative peace.

Suspected insurgents target people seen as collaborators with the government, including soldiers, police and informants. More than 50 teachers, viewed as symbols of government authority, also have been killed.

PATTANI, Thailand — As part of the military-backed government’s efforts to quell violence in the troubled Muslim-populated South, Thai Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said Saturday, January 27, that the government will introduce the teaching of Islam in its education system in the Buddhist country.
“I’ve assigned the Foreign Ministry to coordinate with the Malaysian government and to study whether what educational syllabus is needed to be improved for primary education in our country,” Chulanont said in statements carried by the Thai news agency (TNA).

He said the Islamic teaching will be allowed in schools from the primary grade to the university level in the Muslim-populated southern provinces on the long run.

Fifteen Palestinians killed in Gaza clashes

GAZA (Reuters) – Rival Palestinian factions clashed in the Gaza Strip on Friday, killing 15 people including a two-year-old child, and a Fatah-linked group said it had captured 24 Hamas hostages.

The death toll in a wave of bombings and shootings is the highest in internal Palestinian fighting in a single day of violence since Hamas’s rise to power exactly a year ago.

In Jabalya in the northern Gaza Strip, Hamas gunmen besieged and later stormed the house of senior Fatah militant Mansour Shalayel, who they accused of shooting a Hamas supporter.

Security forces said they managed to regain control of the house and drive away the attackers and free Shalayel and other people who were holed up inside the house unharmed.

Hamas disputed Fatah’s claim of success and said they were in control of the house. Shalayel had not been seen late on Friday and his whereabouts or condition were not known.

Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades said it had seized 24 Hamas supporters in Gaza and the West Bank and threatened a “severe response” if Hamas gunmen harmed Shalayel.

JAKARTA, Indonesia — An alleged Southeast Asian terror leader threatened to call for holy war against Indonesian police Thursday, days after an anti-terror squad shot dead 15 suspected Islamic extremists.

Abu Bakar Bashir, accused by Australia and the United States of being a key figure in the Al Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiyah, said Muslims should stop serving in the police’s anti-terror squad on Indonesia’s conflict-ridden Sulawesi island.

“If Muslims are being killed, then we must fight back,” the 69-year-old cleric told around 100 hard-liners outside the National Human Rights Commission in the capital, Jakarta, where they were protesting Monday’s killings.

“If necessary, we must organize a jihad,” he said.

Ten years ago, in the spring of 1996, the world still seemed more or less okay. The towers of the World Trade Center dominated the Manhattan skyline, the American president had an affair with an intern, the Helmut Kohl era was coming to an end in Germany, and intellectuals killed time by debating over whether Francis Fukuyama was right in claiming that we have reached the “end of history” and whether capitalism had truly triumphed or socialism had merely lost the first round. In those days few were aware of the fine distinction between Islam and Islamism.

It all began with a faxed letter from Ken Livingstone, mayor of London, arriving out of the blue on April 4, 2006:

I will be hosting a conference to discuss the thesis of the “clash of civilizations” first popularized by Professor Samuel Huntington’s book, The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order. I would like to invite you to debate this thesis with me at the opening session of the conference, which will be held 10am-1pm on Saturday, 10 June 2006.

The conference was twice delayed, before finally taking place two days ago, on January 20, 2007. It was quite an event, held in the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, across the street from Westminster Abbey. The mayor told me in a private chat before the event that when he conceived of the event two years ago, he wondered if anyone would show up. He need not have worried; the Greater London Authority’s website indicated there had been “an unprecedented demand” for tickets and several days in advance of the event shut the ticketing. One organizer on the mayor’s staff told me that the audience numbered about five thousand and that over 150 media had registered for the conference.

The mayor and I each invited a seconder to help us make our arguments: he chose Salma Yaqoob, a councillor in Birmingham, and I chose Douglas Murray, the London writer. Due to the large crowd, the event started a half hour late but even truncated, it still went for slightly over two hours.

Despite the many journalists and video cameras, and despite the GLA having recorded and simultaneously transcribed the event, and despite two and a half days having passed since it took place, there has been – quite to my surprise – not a single media account of the debate, nor a video made available, nor a transcript. (This reminds me in a way of my University of California-Berkeley talk three years ago, which created quite a stir but had zero media coverage.)
