DUAL citizens hell-bent on dividing Australia should be punished and stripped of their Aussie citizenship, Treasurer Peter Costello says.
Mr Costello also says burning the national flag is sickening but should not be banned.
The Treasurer today repeated calls to strip Aussie citizenship from people thumbing their nose at home-grown values.
The comments follow a push to dump the nation’s Muslim spiritual leader for comparing women to uncovered meat, calling white people liars, and saying Muslims had more right to be in Australia than descendants of convicts.

But he stopped short of demanding dual citizenship be scrapped altogether.
The comments follow a push to dump the nation’s Muslim spiritual leader for comparing women to uncovered meat, calling white people liars, and saying Muslims had more right to be in Australia than descendants of convicts.
“I think there is a point with someone who is a dual citizen, if somebody is an Australian citizen and also, let’s say, an Egyptian citizen and that person doesn’t support what this country stands for, doesn’t want to be a part of this country, I think we’d be within our rights to say to that person, well, Australia’s not for you,” Mr Costello said.
Sydney-based Sheik Taj el-Din al-Hilaly holds both Australian and Egyptian citizenship.
His position is uncertain after a string of outspoken comments, including that Prime Minister John Howard was a “Mr Me Too” lackey of the United States.
The controversial cleric’s colleague, Islamic Friendship Association of Australia spokesman Keysar Trad, accused the Treasurer of stirring up resentment and bullying Muslims.
“It is totally un-Australian to keep picking on the minority. This is an attack on the Muslim minority,” Mr Trad said.
“Some politicians will not tolerate any constructive criticism … from those who are not Anglo-Australian.”
Islamic Council of Victoria spokesman Waleed Aly said re-igniting the values debate seemed a diversion tactic in federal election lead-up.
“The values and citizenship debate is traditionally strong ground for the Government and no-one is talking about this at the moment, they are talking about climate change and the planet frying,” Mr Aly said.
*Right Aly. When another Muslim is in trouble you must hurry to the rescue. Hurry! Interesting that you’re so ‘concerned’ about climate change…
Mr Aly said dual citizenship was an economic benefit.
“It is one of those things you either allow or don’t. You can’t have a half-way house.”

Mr Costello also said burning the Australian flag should not be outlawed.
“I hate people burning the Australian flag,” Mr Costello told Macquarie Radio.
“It makes me sick in my stomach but then you think to yourself, these people are disaffected people, some of them are just plain bad people, I wouldn’t want to make them martyrs.”
