How to Win the Clash of Civilizations

By AYAAN HIRSI ALI (Wall Street Journal)

The key advantage of Huntington’s famous model is that it describes the world as it is—not as we wish it to be.

Here’s Ayaan  in part I of with an incredibly annoying, obnoxious BBC creep who is trying everything to make a fool of himself. You can watch part 2 here

What do the controversies around the proposed mosque near Ground Zero, the eviction of American missionaries from Morocco earlier this year, the minaret ban in Switzerland last year, and the recent burka ban in France have in common? All four are framed in the Western media as issues of religious tolerance. But that is not their essence. Fundamentally, they are all symptoms of what the late Harvard political scientist Samuel Huntington called the “Clash of Civilizations,” particularly the clash between Islam and the West.

Huntington’s argument is worth summarizing briefly for those who now only remember his striking title. The essential building block of the post-Cold War world, he wrote, are seven or eight historical civilizations of which the Western, the Muslim and the Confucian are the most important.

The Sydney Moonbat Herald offers a soapbox to Hilary McPhee, a deluded multiculturalist  gusher for Islamic supremacy.

Hilary McPhee was a founding director of McPhee Gribble Publishers, chair of the Australia Council for the Arts and a founding director of New Matilda.com. More recently she has been living and working in the Middle East and Italy writing a book and articles. She is now back in Melbourne. Her first selection of recent Australian writing, ‘Wordlines’ will be published in July. She is currently annotating and editing some diaries from the early 1950s for MUP and writing another book.

Me thinks the loons are running the asylum. Thanks to Mullah Lodabullah

She once ‘lived in the Middle East’, you see, and she knows all about Islam! Hilary McPhee even knows  the cure for Islam, as you can see above, and Ayaan Ali Hirsi is just so yuk, you know, saying all these nasty things about poor widdle Muslims!  Go back to sleep, there is nothing wrong with Islam!   Hilary knows some lovely Arabs, with liquid brown eyes, they wouldn’t tell lies…… unlike Ayaan, who “is deluded and for whom she fears…”

May the burqa rest lightly on your shoulders, Hilary!

“Prejudice confirmed”

Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s “convert-like zeal is both disturbing and delusional”, writes Hilary McPhee.

AYAAN Hirsi Ali has brains and beauty and is a gift to those of us who like our prejudices confirmed. In Australia, where she returns regularly to promote her books, she reinforces our idea of the Muslim world as monolithic, mediaeval and dangerous. Islam is all bad, religion is the problem, Allah is the villain. The West is better in every respect. These days she proclaims the American way with stars in her eyes.

Yep. Avi Lewis got a good trashing from Ayaan when he made equally stupid statements….

Back Channels: Boldly confronting the problems of Islam

By Kevin Ferris/Inquirer Columnist

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a big believer in freedom of speech. So she practices it daily, fearlessly, and at great personal cost.

“Every important freedom that Western individuals possess rests on free expression,” she writes in her new book, Nomad: From Islam to America: A Personal Journey Through the Clash of Civilizations. “We observe what is wrong, and we say what is wrong, in order that it may be corrected.”

Related links:

What Hirsi Ali wants to correct most are certain aspects of Islam, the religion and culture she practiced growing up in Somalia. The religion and culture she abandoned in order to escape an arranged marriage. The religion and culture she says often conflict with Western values. And in order to make the necessary corrections, she outlines the wrongs in Nomad:

“Islam is not just a belief; it is a way of life, a violent way of life. Islam is imbued with violence, and it encourages violence.”

“[A] strict interpretation of Islam is preparation for bigotry, violence, and oppression.”

“It is part of Muslim culture to oppress women …”

All human beings are equal, but all cultures and religions are not. … The culture of the Western Enlightenment is better.” (Emphasis in original.)

Multikulti Madness as UK Kids Forced into Muslim Dress for Mosque Visit

U.K.: Catholic schoolchildren told to dress as Muslims — headscarves included — for mosque visit, or be marked as truants

From our You Can’t Make This Stuff Up Department, conveniently located down the hall from our You’ll Want to Read This Sitting Down Department. “Parents’ outrage as Catholic school children told ‘dress as a Muslim for mosque trip – or you will be branded a truant’,” from the Daily Mail, May 12 (thanks to JW):

Amy Owen (L), who was penalised for refusing to wear Muslim dress to a school mosque visit, pictured with her mother

Catching ‘em young – How the leftist doctrine of multiculturalism is being imposed on YOUR children – with menaces:

A Catholic schoolgirl has been branded a ‘truant’ by her teachers after she refused to dress as a Muslim for a school field trip to a mosque. Staff had ordered 14-year-old Amy Owen and her classmates to dress in headscarf, wear trousers or leggings and keep her arms covered for the compulsory visit to the mosque after it was arranged to promote ‘community cohesion.’

Parents at the 1,100 pupil Ellesmere Port Catholic High School in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire were also told they were each required to make a £3 contribution towards the trip for all Year Nine students. Michelle Davies’ daughter Amy Owen was ordered to wear a headscarf and trousers or leggings for a school trip to a mosque
But when Amy refused to dress in Muslim attire for the visit to Al Rahma Mosque in Toxteth, Liverpool, staff warned her about rules and said refusal would mean non attendance which would then be marked down as an ‘unauthorised absence.’  More from un-dhimmi

Respect Islam!

Wall Street Journal/David Kronfeld

Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s enlightening op-ed, “‘South Park’ and the Informal Fatwa,” (April 28) discusses how a tenet of Islam encourages Muslims to take it upon themselves, as individuals, to punish those who somehow commit “wrong.” This raises another basic issue surrounding Islam: That it is an honor-based culture that places enormous importance on the public display of respect. This leads to a host of actions that seem barbaric to others; not only may—or must—one kill another person who has “disrespected” Muhammad, but fathers and husbands may also slay their daughters and wives if they have somehow dishonored the family, perhaps for something as trivial as talking in public to an unrelated male or dressing immodestly. This honor-based culture similar fosters suicide bombers who indiscriminately murder innocent people to gain the glorified status of martyr and instant entry into paradise.

For those of us who see Islam from the outside, these brutal, merciless and death-extolling tenets engender not respect but horror and disgust. It is ironic that the fundamentalist followers of an ideology that seeks respect with such determination, manage to achieve precisely the opposite.

“If she would have her way, everyone will leave the theater thinking Islam is evil…"

Hmm, we can’t have that. We can’t let Ayaan Hirsi Ali  have her way. What’s the world coming to? All that kumbaya theater and interfaith circus for nothing?

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, recounting her childhood as a Muslim girl, remembers her aunt telling her she will always have an angel on each shoulder.  (Must be ‘jinn’, which is hardly the same…..)

Controversial DLS speaker talks about abuse of women by Muslims, death threats made against her due to her academic work in Holland

Badger Herald/ By Kyle Mianulli (desperately trying to be “fair & balanced”- can’t take sides here, dont’cha know….)

“Allahu Akbar,” several audience members yelled as Ayaan Hirsi Ali took the stage Tuesday night. “That means God is great,” she responded. “I’m not going to say God is great.”

The highly anticipated and controversial speaker of the University of Wisconsin’s Distinguished Lecture series, Hirsi Ali, is a Muslim woman who fled her home country of Somalia and devoted her life to speaking against Islamic doctrine and what she calls the “sanctioned abuse of women.”

University of Wisconsin Muslim Student Association President Rashid Dar had previously said MSA was not in support of bringing Hirsi Ali to campus because of her openly anti-Islamic agenda.

“If she would have her way, everyone will leave the theater thinking Islam is evil,” Dar said.

About 1,300 UW students, faculty and community members were ushered through metal detectors and past armed police as they entered the Memorial Union Theatre Tuesday night, a process which delayed the event more than an hour.

She began her story by telling how she ran from an Islamic traditional arranged marriage, finding refuge in an academic community in Holland where she published papers openly critical of Islam and the Islamic community, specifically regarding the oppressive and abusive treatment of women.

“Because of my work there, my life was threatened and continues to be threatened,” Hirsi Ali said.

In November 2004, the controversial nature of her messages came to a front when the Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, who was working on a film with Hirsi Ali criticizing the treatment of women in Islam, was murdered in the streets of Holland.

Shot and beheaded, van Gogh was left in the street with an explicit death threat for Hirsi Ali stabbed into his chest.

Integral to her academic and subsequent pursuits is the idea that the basic principals of western democracy are inherently incompatible with Islamic ideology.

She added rather than offset Islam against Christianity, as is most common, it is perhaps more appropriate to offset it with the Western political theories of liberal democracy.

She went on to say violence against women in the Islamic world is systemic and written into the religious texts that are also used as state law in some countries.

It is this ideology Hirsi Ali said that has led to widespread Islamic acceptance and practice of violence against women.

“I’m not talking about Muslims, but Islamic doctrine, that the rules, the laws, the values that are espoused in there are hostile to women, and when they are practiced we see terrible things happen to women,” Hirsi Ali said in an interview with The Badger Herald.

Sara & Amina: forgotten?

Such things are not unique to the Muslim world Hirsi Ali said. She referenced an incident in Texas where a Muslim father killed two of his daughters because they were in relationships with American boys.

When Hirsi Ali asked the audience who had heard of the tragedy, she counted six raised hands, which she said evidences the pervasive western idea that Islam is beyond the same scrutiny and criticism given to western religious political theories.

Real crazy befuddlement in uber-liberal Univ of Wisconsin student paper

Ayaan Ali Hirsi is being maligned by the UW’s Women and Gender Studies Department. Max Manasevit takes issue with what he calls ‘cultural imperialism:’

Women’s Studies should have supported Hirsi Ali

“Feminism is a movement dedicated to establishing equal rights for women. Many feminists naturally feel obligated to help suffering women around the world. A multicultural feminist, however, could only address the gender inequalities in the society in which they participate in, because judging other cultures based on the freedoms firmly entrenched in the Western tradition is tantamount to cultural imperialism.”

Check out the comments section. Real bad craziness…..

Hirsi Ali criticises western 'appeasement' of Islam

H/T Islamization Watch

Hirsi Ali in India, criticises western ‘appeasement’ of Islam

Genuine debate about Islam, Ali argued, was all too often “shut down by those who have a stake in keeping any criticism of Islam away. Theo’s murder just made me realise how incredibly dangerous this theology is.” …
“It’s extraordinary to see the energy we spend on protecting individual Muslims from questioning their moral framework,” she said.
“We should make Islam go through the same enlightenment process other religions have gone through by using that questioning process.”

Then Muslims would likely argue that Islam is most enlightened system of thought in the world – thereby catapulting Muslims to the top of mankind! They will say remember our achievements of 1000 years ago – after many great nations fell one after the other to Islam and we took their science! Remember that – with the translations of the ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Persians – we started western society! While Islam held Europe under siege – when the East was inaccessible and in the south Muslims laughed Europeans could not drop a twig into the Mediterranean without a Muslim attack – the west was backward and the Muslims were advanced.

But then questions are offensive to Muslims – challenges are not permitted. Therefore what they say goes! If they say Islam = Enlightenment ~ how can we argue back.

Can I ask what happened to Islamic achievement after the conquest of these more powerful nations – SHUT UP YOU CRITIC OF ISLAM !!

Obama should speak truth to Islam because others can’t

IT was not an April Fools’ joke. When President Barack Obama met the Queen of the Commonwealth at Buckingham Palace, he gave her an iPod. Last week, I was half expecting the president to show up in the Middle East laden with Kindles.

Ayaan Ali Hirsi: Obama's wrong strategy and false praises

ayaan-hirsi-ali

The courtship articulated in his speech was peppered with false praise (“… it was innovation in Muslim communities that developed … our mastery of pens and printing.”), feigned common principles and made ridiculous promises to fight negative stereotyping of Islam wherever he encounters it.

This is all part of political rhetoric, but it really doesn’t lead to concrete change. This, in my view, is the wrong strategy. Instead of pretending that Muslims invented printing, the President should be confronting them with the key products of the Western printing press. And it’s here that Kindles could be of use.

Nowhere in the world is bigotry so rampant as in Muslim countries. No difference is greater between American and Islamic principles than the founding ideals of both. It is on the basis of the founding ideals of Islam that al-Qa’ida and other Muslim puritans insist on the implementation of sharia law, jihad and the eternal subjection of women. It is on the basis of the founding ideals of America that blacks and women fought for — and gained — equal rights and gays and new immigrants continue to do so.
