Australians: Freedom of Religion and Speech – Submissions needed!

             

   URGENT APPEAL!   GET INVOLVED!

Looks like Tom Calma, Australia’s “Race Discrimination Commissioner”, has not found enough grievance groups to participate in his Orwellian scam designed to vilify and criminalize people like us for telling the truth about Islam. That’s why the deadline for submissions has been extended. If you haven’t voiced your objections yet, do it NOW!

At the end of January we sent an email detailing the Inquiry being conducted by the Australian Human Rights Commission (formerly called the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission – HREOC) – it is titled ‘Freedom of Religion and Belief in the 21st century’.

The closing date for the Inquiry has been EXTENDED to 28 February 2009 – so if you didn’t put it a submission there is STILL TIME to do so!

It is important that everyone tells the Inquiry what they think about freedom of religion and belief in Australia. Although it might sound ‘nice’ to have laws affirming religion and belief, the reality is that such laws RESTRICT free speech. It is vital that such laws not be enacted at a federal level – the previous report, Article 18, from 1998, recommended a ‘Religious Freedom Act’ (see list of Recommendations at bottom of page for ‘Discussion Paper’). The religious vilification law in Victoria has caused more disharmony than ‘harmony’ in the community.

The protection of our Judeo-Christian heritage is a priority.

Similar laws are being used around the world to restrict free speech. Geert Wilders is currently on trial in The Netherlands. Mark Steyn has been brought before a Tribunal in Canada for sections printed from his book America Alone …

The Organisation of Islamic Countries is working at the United Nations level to have laws and treaties enacted to stop criticism of Islam.

Fasten your seatbelts: UN passes measure limiting free speech

Will you submit?

This has been a long time coming. The UN anti-blasphemy measure, although non-binding at this point, is part of a larger and long-term effort to restrict speech that Islamic authorities dislike, including honest examination of the motives and goals of jihad terrorists. The only victors can be the jihadists themselves: Western authorities, already mired in politically correct myopia, will grow even more afraid to speak openly about what they’re trying to do and what we can do to stop it. The losers can only be those who value freedom of speech and understand why it is so important in a genuinely pluralistic society. The UN measure moves the West one step closer to submitting to the hegemony of Islamic norms.

The National Secular Society, together with the International Humanist and Ethical Union, has been working over the past year to try to raise the alarm about the concerted efforts by Islamic groups to write blasphemy laws into international human rights legislation.

OTTAWA, August 27, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Canada is a “problematic” destination for a conference on political thought because of the predilection of its Human Rights Commissions (HRC) for squashing freedom of expression says a number of American intellectuals.

The group of U.S. academics is circulating a petition asking the American Political Science Association (APSA) not to hold its annual convention in Toronto next year for fear that some of its members will be subject to human rights prosecutions if they speak or write about controversial subjects.

“Our belief is that most Americans – even APSA members – have no idea how precarious the rights of freedom of speech and conscience are in Canada,” said Bradley Watson, professor of American and Western political thought at Pennsylvania’s St. Vincent College.
