NYT Blog  Update:  Britain’s Channel 4 News aired a video report on Thursday night showing Taliban forces on the streets of the strategically important Pakistani town of Buner, just 70 miles from the country’s capital, Islamabad. As Carlotta Gall and Eric Schmidt explain in The Times, a near total lack of resistance from Pakistan’s military has allowed just “400 to 500 insurgents,” to seize control of the area.

A rising number of California parents are choosing to send their children to kindergarten without routine vaccinations, putting hundreds of elementary schools in the state at risk for outbreaks of childhood diseases eradicated in the U.S. years ago.
There is absolutely no evidence that measles-mumps-rubella vaccine (MMR) causes autism, and parents who buy into this madness are endangering not only their own children, but everyone else’s kids as well. This is a very scary phenomenon.

So apparently, if they are willing to abandon violence and pursue their goal of implementing Islamic law by other means, that is just fine with her. Here is yet another demonstration of the danger of misdiagnosis of the global jihad threat: the problem is not the means the Taliban use, the problem is their goal. The Taliban are not bad because they are violent — after all, so are the forces that oppose them. However, as far as the President and the Secretary of State are concerned, that is the only problem with them. If they try to accomplish their goals at the ballot box rather than with guns and bombs, Obama and Clinton would welcome them as partners. The fact that the Taliban want to impose a law upon Afghanistan that would subjugate women and non-Muslims as inferiors, denied equality of rights with Muslim men, and extinguish freedom of speech and freedom of conscience, means nothing to them.
And why should it? Karzai’s Afghanistan is already a Sharia state, according to the Afghan Constitution.

Pakistan is capitulating to the Taliban in the picturesque Swat Valley, where the Islamists have introduced Sharia law. Now the militants’ triumph threatens to encourage radicals throughout the region.
The defeat was celebrated as if it had been a victory. The chief minister of the North-West Frontier Province greeted a delegation from the local Taliban. The Taliban officials, with their long beards and turbans, had come to the chief minister’s house to sign a treaty. After arriving in pickups and large limousines, the men were seated on velvet armchairs and served food on silver trays.
Taliban planning massive strikes in India
New Delhi: If intelligence reports are to be believed, Taliban is planning to carry out massive terrorist attacks in India, sources said.
According to the report, hundreds of Taliban fighters, who have taken training at Islamic institutions, are ready to sneak into Indian territory in this regard.

Why should we be interested in the ‘survival of Pakistan?’ Pakistan is founded on Islam and nothing but Islam. Pakistan is, and always will be, a failed state without any economic basis. Only the jiziya, (some call it aid) that keeps the corrupt military generals in power, gives Pakistan some sort of half-civilized appearance.Â
Stop the jiziyah! Stop all support to Pakistan, let nature take its course! Let the world see what Islam does if we leave it alone. You can’t resurrect a carcass, why should we, the taxpayers of the West, support this folly?

When the average American first heard about the Taliban (soon after 9/11), these harborers of al-Qaeda were in charge of Afghanistan. Today, a full eight years after the U.S. invaded Afghanistan, routing the Taliban, not only is the latter making a comeback in Afghanistan, but according to the president of Pakistan, the Taliban is also in ‘huge’ amounts of his country.

As international attention is focused on Gaza, Taliban militants are enforcing Islamic shari’a in the SwatValley of Pakistan‘sNorth WestFrontierProvince (NWFP). Since January 15, 2009, the Taliban have enforced a complete ban on female education in the Swat district. The forced Islamization in the Swat district, which was once compared to Switzerland for its picturesque valley, has been underway in recent months, and was stepped up after the Pakistani government released Islamist leader Maulana Sufi Muhammad last year under a deal with the militants. The Taliban in the district are led by Maulana Sufi Muhammad and his son-in-law Maulana Fazlullah.
Some 400 private schools have been shut down, depriving about 40,000 girls of their right to education. Additionally, about 84,000 female students enrolled in government-run schools are unlikely to get an education, despite the Pakistani government’s pledge to reopen the schools beginning March 1, 2009.  At least 10 girls’ schools that tried to open after theJanuary 15, 2009 deadline by the Taliban were blown up by the militants in the town of Mingora, the headquarters of the Swat district.  The Taliban have also made it compulsory for men to wear caps and have banned shaving, beginning January 25, 2009.Â
