Death threat against FPÖ politician justifies her attack on Islam

FPÖ General Secretary Harald Vilimsky said Wednesday that the Islamic death threat against Graz FPÖ politician Susanne Winter had justified her Sunday attack on Islam.

Winter had claimed at the FPÖ’s New Year’s meeting in Graz six days before the municipal election there that the prophet Mohammed had been “a child molester” and written the Koran during “epileptic fits.”

A death threat against Winter claiming to be from European Al-Qaeda appeared on the internet on Monday. The head of her party’s list in the January 20 municipal election, she has subsequently received protection from members of the elite Cobra security force.

Vilimsky added that the FPÖ was awaiting “a clear response” to the death threat from Austrian President Heinz Fischer and SPÖ Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer.

The party general secretary declared that he would not distance himself from Winter’s remarks and that Austria needed a tougher policy against radical Islam.

Vilimsky called for additional security measures such as mandatory identification of each passport holder’s religion in the holder’s travel document, fingerprint data for persons with an Islamic background and creation of a special unit in the Federal Office for Protection of the Constitution and the Fight against Terrorism to combat terrorism.

In an unseemly act of desperation during his first visit to Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil producer, President Bush openly pleaded with King Abdullah to help raise OPEC production and tame energy prices.

“It would be helpful,” Bush suggested, noting that $100-a-barrel oil could tip the U.S. economy into recession. His plea was summarily rebuffed. “We will raise production when the market justifies it,” the Saudi oil minister sniffed.

Adding to the humiliation, Bush just hours earlier delivered a major arms sale to the oil-rich kingdom. The $20 billion package, which Congress must approve, includes 900 smart-bomb kits that will lend Saudi highly accurate targeting abilities that could threaten Israel.

All the begging and bribing only proved Saudi Arabia still has us over a barrel of oil — and in the cross hairs of Islamic extremists, we might add.

Despite rhetoric about our so-called ally’s cooperation in the war on terror, it’s still teaching anti-Western hatred in its textbooks and schools, still spreading radical Wahhabism to our shores, still freeing terrorists, still giving immunity to al-Qaida financiers such as Yasin Kadi, and still allowing clerics to rally Saudi’s sons to join the al-Qaida insurgents in Iraq.

In fact, Saudi nationals account for the largest share of foreign al-Qaida fighters in Iraq, according to a study released by the U.S. Military Academy. Of the foreign terrorists entering Iraq between August 2006 and August 2007, 41% were Saudi citizens, and most of them were students. They had signed up to be suicide bombers, just like the 15 young Saudi men who attacked America.

Not much has changed in Saudi Arabia over the past six years. Only now, it’s richer than ever, flush with petrodollars that are helping finance the jihad. Which means Americans are helping finance their own destruction every time they go to the pumps.

Given this chain of events — the bigger bankrolling of jihad, along with a looming recession — the mind boggles that our government’s only recourse is to genuflect before oil sheiks.

Jihadists seize fort from Pakistani troops

WANA, Pakistan (AFP) – Hundreds of Islamist militants overran a Pakistani paramilitary fort near the Afghan border Wednesday, sparking fierce fighting that left seven troops and up to 50 rebels dead, the army said.
Another 20 troops were missing after insurgents armed with rocket launchers and assault rifles blasted their way into the remote outpost at Sararogha town in the rugged South Waziristan tribal district.

The area is said to be a stronghold of Baitullah Mehsud, a tribal warlord with alleged links to Al-Qaeda who is accused by the government of masterminding the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto.

“Around midnight 400 miscreants attacked the Frontier Corps at Sararogha. The fort was captured by militants, we are taking stock of the situation,” chief military spokesman Major General Athar Abbas told AFP.

“There are reports of 40 to 50 dead miscreants, while seven personnel embraced martyrdom.”

 Pakistan says foreign intervention an ‘enemy act’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s foreign ministry warned Wednesday that any unauthorised military strike by international forces against Al-Qaida militants on Pakistani soil would be considered an “enemy act.”

The warning came days after President Pervez Musharraf said in a newspaper interview that an incursion by the US-led coalition in Afghanistan without permission would be treated as an invasion.

Growing Islamist militancy in Pakistan’s tribal areas has raised concerns in the United States, with reports that Washington is considering giving the Pentagon and the CIA new authority to conduct covert operations.

“Without Pakistan’s permission, without Pakistan’s involvement, any action by a foreign government on Pakistan’s territory will be an enemy act,” foreign ministry Mohammad Sadiq told weekly briefing.

“Just give us money…”

Sadiq said Pakistan welcomed any international help in the fight against terrorism, but would not allow foreign troops to take direct action on its territory, he said.

“We have cooperation with the international community in (the) war on terror and in… intelligence sharing, training, technical cooperation and provision of equipment and armament,” he said.

“So that is the area of cooperation, where we allow the international community to help us and support us because that facilitates our war on terror.”

Taliban and Al-Qaida-linked militancy has intensified in the tribal areas since Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf ordered troops to crush an uprising at a radical mosque in Islamabad in July.

Hundreds of Islamist militants attacked and captured a Pakistani paramilitary fort near the Afghan border on Wednesday, leaving seven troops and up to 50 rebels dead, the army said.

Antwerp: Politician wears hijab in protest

Spirit leader Bettina Geysen wore a hijab at the start of her New Year’s speech in Antwerp this past Sunday, out of indignation with the Ghent ban on hijabs and a possible ban in the future also the in the East Flanders province.

The move was met with criticism from Vlaams Belang. Filip Dewinter said she “prostitutes herself for Islam”. Dewinter said Geysen provoked all Flemish by giving her speech with a headscarf, under the cloak of pluralism and tolerance. He said that having the head of a self-declared progressive party, which stands up for women’s emancipation and equality, decked out with an Islamic headscarf is too crazy for words. “The headscarf is the Islam symbol of the discrimination of the woman and of resistance towards our Western society.”

The Antwerp Vlaams Belang head called the Antwerp municipal council to follow suit on the ban also in the civil service.

STRASBOURG (AFP) – Syria’s top Sunni Muslim cleric urged the media Tuesday to use caution when reporting on religion, saying that the choice and timing of a report can cause a war.

* Bear in mind too that in the mind of belligerent Islam, “media” = “Jews”.

“A simple piece of information can spark a war. If a man dies because of information that you have made public, his death will be on your conscience,” Shiekh Ahmed Badreddin Hassun told reporters at the European Parliament.

His remarks came in response to questions about the 2005 crisis when satirical cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed first published in Denmark caused an uproar in the Muslim world, resulting in protests and several deaths.

The Grand Mufti expressed regret over what he said was the “instrumentalisation of this dossier, which arose from a simple, isolated case.”

“Some television stations chose Friday, one hour before prayers” to broadcast the story, he said, adding that “there are media who want to create a conflict” between the West and the Muslim world.

The Koran does not explicitly ban images of the Prophet Mohammed, but attempts to capture his image, in drawings in this instance, are seen as an insult.

Earlier, in a speech to the assembly which was part of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, the Grand Mufti voiced confidence that the world would not soon see a holy war.

“I am confident. I don’t think there will be a holy war. Wars are never holy. Peace, though, is holy,” he said.

The Grand Mufti denied there is such a thing as “Holy war”, telling the gathered MEPs that there is only “Holy Peace”. However, completely missing from the EU’s own reporting was the warning Dr. Hassoun has for the Netherlands (NL):

Should it come to riots, bloodshed and violence after broadcating the Quran movie by PVV-leader Geert Wilders, then Wilders will be responsible.

This was said by the Grand Mufti of Syria, Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun, Tuesday in teh European Parliament, where he gave a speech at the invitation of the fraction presidents.

If Wilders tears up or burn a Quran in his film ‘this will simply mean he is inciting wars and bloodshed. And he will be responsible’, according to te Grand Mufti.

Al Hassoun thinks it is ‘the responsibility of the Dutch people to stop Wilders’.
Which comes down to a case of blackmail against the Netherlands, in direct contradiction to the ‘peaceful’ nature of the Grand Mufti’s speech as reported by the EP’s own site, doesn’t?

Why was this primitive loudmouth allowed to address the EP in the first place? And why wasn’t he taken to task anout the persecution of Christians and others of a faith not islam in Syria and the ME at large? It speaks volumes about the EUnions dedication to freedom (none) that the entire parliament enthusiatically applauded a speaker that made some not very veiled threats against one of the EU member states, one of the founding states, even. No protests, just a gushing report on the speech, glossing over the less refined passages in it. Mustn’t offend the Mufti, you see.

Appeasement, that is what matters.

Textbook: Islamic ‘jihad’ means doing good works

An Islamic “jihad” is an effort by Muslims to convince “others to take up worthy causes, such as funding medical research,” according to a middle school textbook used in California and other states.

And even at its most violent, “jihad” simply is Muslims fighting “to protect themselves from those who would do them harm,” says the “History Alive! The Medieval World and Beyond” book published by Teachers’ Curriculum Institute.

But a parent whose child has been handed the text in a Sacramento district is accusing the publisher of a pro-Muslim bias to the point that Islamic theology has been incorporated into the public school teachings.

“It makes an attempt to seem like an egalitarian world history book, but on closer inspection you find that seven (not all are titled so) of the chapters deal with Islam or Muslim subjects,” wrote the parent, whose name was being withheld, in a letter to WND.

Sacramento’s students are being taught “jihad” is an effort to convince “others to take up worthy causes.”

“The upsetting part is not only do they go into the history (which would be acceptable) but also the teaching of Islam,” she said. “This book does not really go into Christianity or the teachings of Christ, nor does it address religious doctrine elsewhere to the degree it does Islam.”

A MAN who had ammunition in his pocket and a loaded pistol on the back seat of his car when he was pulled over told police he was, “going hunting with my uncle”.

The gun was ready to fire when police pulled over Mahmud Jihad, 26, in Rooty Hill on Tuesday.

Also in a bag in the back seat was a tazer, Mount Druitt local court heard yesterday.

A further three pistols – including a Russian semi-automatic – were found when police raided Jihad’s Shalvey home later the same day.

‘Poverty breeds terrorism:’

Along with the cache of guns and ammunition found in the bedroom of the builder’s labourer, was $59,550 in cash.

Jihad yesterday faced court on 15 charges, including having a firearm in a public place.

The court heard Jihad was sentenced to 12 months’ jail in 2005 for similar offences.

Jihad’s estranged parents and sister were in court yesterday when he applied for bail.

His lawyer Charles Zarb argued that although his client had priors for similar offences, he had always turned up at court, even when a jail sentence was likely.

But prosecutor Pauline McCann said Jihad’s actions demonstrated that he was an active risk to the public.

Jihad was refused bail and remanded in custody to appear again on March 28.

Another Islamic Jihad terror operative, Ibrahim Fuad Ibrahim Abu-Rob, was arrested. Abid was killed during exchanges of fire that erupted after IDF forces arrived at the house where he was staying in order to arrest him. An M16 assault rifle with a telescopic lens was later discovered on his body.

Beirut bomb hits U.S. embassy car, kills three

BEIRUT, Jan 15 (Reuters) – A car bomb damaged a U.S. diplomatic car in Beirut on Tuesday, killing at least three people and wounding 16, and the U.S. State Department said no Americans died in the blast.

The bomb sent a column of smoke into the sky, tore masonry from buildings and destroyed at least six cars in a Christian suburb north of Beirut, as well as damaging the armored embassy car.
The blast coincided with U.S. President George W. Bush’s visit to Saudi Arabia as part of a weeklong tour of U.S. Middle East allies.
Bush is not visiting Lebanon, though Washington has been a strong backer of the Beirut government in its power struggle with the Hezbollah-led opposition backed by Syria.
The Lebanese government put the death toll at three but the State Department said the bomb killed four Beirut residents. None worked for the embassy.

“There were no American diplomats or American citizens in the car at the time,” State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said. A Lebanese national working for the U.S. Embassy and a driver were in the car when it was attacked, and the driver was slightly wounded, he said. An American passer-by was also hurt.
Lebanese and U.S. security officials were at the scene, where rescue workers covered a corpse with plastic sheeting. Pools of blood covered the road. Two of the dead were Lebanese and the third a Syrian, security sources said.

Terrorism in Kenya

Unlike Kenya, both Uganda and Tanzania have passed their anti-terrorism bills, attracting major funding from the international donor community. Uganda’s Suppression of Terrorism Act of 2002 and Tanzania’s Anti-Terrorism Law of 2003 empower the state to use all necessary means to investigate terrorist activities and confiscate property belonging to people found to be supporting terrorism.

Yet in Kenya, Muslim leaders dismissed their version of the law as a “draconian” document drafted in the United States with the intention of “oppressing” the Muslim community.

“It is a bill that uses shock and awe tactics on its citizens while purporting to fight terrorism,” said Billow Kerrow, a Muslim Kenyan opposition politician (The Nation, December 7, 2003). “In my view,” he said, “our government has gone out of its way to harass its citizens…by arresting, detaining, beating and violating their rights, under pressure from Washington.” The government has vehemently denied the allegations, reiterating that its actions in combating terrorism are not targeting any particular group. “No. We are not targeting Muslims or any other community. We have never done so and will not in the future,” said Lawrence Mwadime, a deputy policy commissioner (The Standard, October 2).

On September 21, Kenyan Muslim leaders urged the Kenyan government to cut off diplomatic ties with the United States until it explained why President George W. Bush discussed Kenya’s political stability with Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete. The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) also demanded that Tanzanian authorities give a detailed account on the meeting at which their leader allegedly discussed Kenya’s affairs, contrary to the tenets of the East African Community (The Nation, September 23). In July 2000, the United States agreed to help Tanzania strengthen its capacity to act against financial crimes and terrorism. Since then, FBI agents have been training Tanzanian police in criminal investigation techniques.

Tensions have been high between the Muslim community and the Kenyan government.

Muslims on the coast, the northeast and in Nairobi complain that they have been persecuted on the flimsy excuse of being terrorist suspects. The government-funded Anti-Terror Police Unit has been allegedly fleecing businesses belonging to ethnic Somalis and Arabs on the claim that they finance terrorists (Reuters, May 24). The unit was set up in 2003 to probe Kenya’s Islamic militants, including the recovery of missiles and the forging of links to friendly foreign security services. Its operations, however, have been adversely hampered by the lack of a central government in chaotic Somalia, since security officials fear that extremist groups still take refuge in the volatile Horn of Africa country.
Islamic groups have held demonstrations in the country’s two biggest cities, Nairobi and Mombasa, denouncing the U.S., British and Israeli governments for their actions toward Islam. Most recently, demonstrators in the coastal city of Mombasa burned the flags of the United States and Israel amid chants of jihad in protest of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. In Mombasa, roughly 60 percent of the population is Muslim.

UPDATE: Yala _ Forty-four people were injured, six seriously, in a bomb blast when a huge crowd of customers was buying food at morning market stalls in Muang district early on Tuesday morning.

Those seriously wounded were Suwit Anukul, Watcharaporn Rangsimant, Sukanya Kalankul, Son Kwanchoo, Thanu Ampornpong and Tanawat Kaew-oad.They are being treated at Yala regional hospital.

Police said the bombers parked a motorcycle strapped with explosives in front of one of the food stalls close to SP Copy shop.

The blast destroyed the stalls and shattered glass windows of nearby shops.

A bomb disposal squad cut off mobile phone signals to prevent other bombs being detonated before going in to inspect the blast scene.

Also in Yala, two men identified as Ali Deekasor, 20, and Sudeng Taleh, 43, were arrested separately yesterday for alleged complicity in insurgent attacks in the province.

In Narathiwat, six people were detained as suspects in the bomb attack and ensuing ambush in the province’s Chanae district on Monday, in which eight soldiers in a teacher escort team were left murdered.

The attackers made off with the soldiers’ firearms, including eight M16 assault rifles, an 11mm pistol and an M60 machine gun.

The arrest came after a raid on four houses in the district believed to be where the ambushers had taken shelter.

Forensic tests revealed traces of gun powder on at least three of the six suspects. However, all denied that they had carried out the bomb attack.

Authorities were also scouring the blast scene for more evidence yesterday.

Col Thanathip Sawangsaeng, spokesman for the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc), said the soldiers killed in the blast were not beheaded. Their heads were blown off by the force of the explosion.

The eight soldiers were posthumously promoted and their families provided with cash compensation. They were also awarded special royal decorations for their bravery.

Angkhana Neelaphaijit, chairwoman of the Working Group on Justice for Peace, condemned insurgent groups for Monday’s deadly ambush in Chanae district.

She said in a statement that it was an act of barbarism which had dealt a serious blow to efforts to forge harmony and restore peace in the deep South.

Government spokesman Chaiya Yimwilai said the cabinet yesterday approved the extension of the emergency decree for another three months in Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala, and this would take effect on Sunday.

The decree no longer covers the four districts of Songkhla _ Chana, Thepha, Na Thawi and Saba Yoi_ which border the insurgent-prone areas of the deep South. The districts, however, remain under martial law due to incidents of unrest

Jihadists murder soldiers, set off bomb in Thai market

* Regarding the usual mainstream media bias in this story, lets set the historical record straight: “The claim that the south of Thailand was ‘annexed by Thailand a century ago’ is WRONG. The Sultanate was destroyed during the Thai war against Burma in the mid 1700s because it had sided with the Burmese against the Siamese. By this time the Sultanate was in decline. The Siamese conquered the area and have ruled it since. And whether they took the land 100 or 250 years ago is beside the point. What right does that give anyone to randomly bomb and kill anyone?” Indeed. The insurgency flared on Jan. 4, 2004, with a raid by unidentified gunmen on an army weapons depot in Narathiwat in which four soldiers were killed and hundreds of guns were stolen. A government crackdown accelerated the violence, and the region was soon beset with drive-by shootings and small bombings. Most of those killed have been civilians….

Critics of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, ousted in a 2006 coup, argue that his government exacerbated tensions with a hard-line approach. But the military-installed interim government that succeeded him has done no better after pledging to take a more nuanced approach that would not alienate southern Muslims.
