Free Speech Under Assault Update. First the Jordanians demanded the Motoonists, and now Wilders. “Jordan group wants Dutch MP tried over ‘anti-Islam’ film,” from AFP, June 10 (thanks to JW):

AMMAN (AFP) — Some 30 Jordanian media outlets filed an official complaint on Tuesday seeking court action against far-right Dutch MP Geert Wilders over a film judged anti-Islamic.

Robert Spencer:

Wilders is “far-right” the way I am “far-right”: not because of any position we have taken on any issue other than the Islamization of the West. Opposing that makes one “far-right.”

The organisations, who have set up a group called “Campaign for the Prophet”, said in a statement they had lodged their complaint with the Amman prosecutor.One of the group’s lawyers, Tarek Hawamdeh told AFP that the action was “based on the (film’s) violation of publishing laws which ban insults against religions and attacks against Islam and the prophets”, punishable by a jail term of three years.

The lawyer said the prosecutor “will hear on Wednesday the arguments of those who have started the judicial process and of witnesses”. He said he hoped this would lead to a court “order for Wilders to appear”….

Not only does he fail miserably, but in typical Muhammedan fashion declares victory for doing a smear job which amounts to nothing more than depositing a turd on somebody’s front lawn and then running away:

In “What does it mean to be Islamic now?” in The Australian, June 7 Irfan Yusuf, a “Sydney lawyer and recipient of the 2007 Allen & Unwin Iremonger award for public affairs writing,” says that it means nothing in particular to be Islamic now, and that those wicked folks who say otherwise (such as I) are just intellectually lazy polemicists. And then, as you might expect, he turns around and endorses the work of the intellectually lazy polemicists Esposito and Mogahed, and dances around the key issue, which is, however wonderfully diverse Muslims may be, where exactly is there a sect or school of Islam that teaches that Muslims and non-Muslims should coexist peacefully as equals before the law on an indefinite basis?

WE don’t often associate the skin tones, exotic culture and poverty of the world’s largest Catholic continent with Catholicism.
Few Australian Catholics would recognise the popular beliefs and practices of their Latin American co-religionists.

So if I were to make an ambit criticism of Christianity based on the extreme poverty and draconian politics of Latin America, Catholics would be justified in poking their fingers at me and ridiculing my simplistic reasoning. But among those pointing at me in ridicule would be the polemicists and cultural warriors with three fingers pointing back at themselves. Google jihad. Featuring prominently is JihadWatch, a blog moderated by far-right Catholic polemicist Robert Spencer.

Here come the hate words — and make no mistake, that’s what they are. By calling me “far-right,” “Catholic,” and a “polemicist,” Yusuf is semaphoring to the enlightened classes that I am someone with whom they should have nothing to do. The mainstream media and the governing elites despise the “Right” and the Catholic Church, and abhor “polemics” in favor of multicultural harmony. “Far-right,” of course, has overtones of racism and fascism, and those are just the overtones Irfan Yusuf wishes to convey.

Fifteen miles away, in Newark, a different counterterrorism task force labeled Qatanani a possible terror suspect who had been categorized as a “person of interest” on his application for a green card.

His deportation trial – testimony concluded Monday and a ruling is due in September – has raised questions as to how smoothly counterterrorism efforts are coordinated in New Jersey, and about the ability of immigration authorities to get information from other agencies or check a person’s background in their country of origin.

Couple charged in Norway for circumcising 5 girls

Police in Norway have arrested a Gambian-born man and charged him and his wife with subjecting five of their six daughters to genital mutilation, officials said on Friday.

The practice, also known as female circumcision, is outlawed in Norway and arouses horror among many people in the West but is a rite of passage for young women in many countries, predominantly in Africa.

The youngest of the five mutilated girls, all born in Norway, is five years old, police officials said. The others are aged seven, 10, 13 and 14 and live in Gambia, national broadcaster NRK reported.

* Perhaps it would be better to concentrate on efforts to have the whole clan happily repatriated and united in Gambia, no?

Police officer Hanne Kristin Rohde, head of the violent crime and vice section of the Oslo police, said on Norwegian commercial television TV 2 that the father — a naturalized Norwegian citizen along with his wife — was taken into custody on Friday.

“Norwegian police have charged this couple of Gambian background for breaking the Norwegian law on genital mutilation — five of their six daughters are circumcised,” Rohde said.

The mother is pregnant with a seventh child and was deemed unfit to be held in jail.

The bride said she was a virgin. When her new husband discovered that was a lie, he went to court to annul the marriage — and a French judge agreed.

* She probably was. She just didn’t bleed and the husband couldn’t show his relatives the bloody bed-sheet, as is customary in Muhammedan tradition…

The ruling ending the Muslim couple’s union has stunned France and raised concerns the country’s much-cherished secular values are losing ground to cultural traditions from its fast-growing immigrant communities.

The decision also exposed the silent shame borne by some Muslim women who transgress long-held customs demanding proof of virginity on the wedding night.

In its ruling, the court concluded the woman had misrepresented herself as a virgin and that, in this particular marriage, virginity was a prerequisite.

But in treating the case as a breach of contract, the ruling was decried by critics who said it undermined decades of progress in women’s rights. Marriage, they said, was reduced to the status of a commercial transaction in which women could be discarded by husbands claiming to have discovered hidden defects in them.

The court decision “is a real fatwa against the emancipation and liberty of women. We are returning to the past,” said Urban Affairs Minister Fadela Amara, the daughter of immigrants from Muslim North Africa, using the Arabic term for a religious decree.

The outcry has been unrelenting since word of the April 1 decision in the closed-door trial in Lille was made public last week by the daily newspaper Liberation. In its judgment, the tribunal said the 2006 marriage had been ended based on “an error in the essential qualities” of the bride, “who had presented herself as single and chaste.”

Justice Minister Rachida Dati, whose parents also were born in North Africa, initially shrugged off the ruling — but the public clamor reached such a pitch that she asked the prosecutor’s office this week to lodge an appeal.
