MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia’s Chechnya region asked parents of boys born on Prophet Mohammad’s birthday to name their children after the Muslim prophet, Russian media reported Monday.

Chechnya’s leader Ramzan Kadyrov added that every boy born on March 8 and March 9 will also receive 50,000 roubles ($1,394) — a hefty sum more than double Russia’s average monthly wage.

Israel beats Sweden in a Davis Cup tie that Muslim immigrants and the far-Left tried to disrupt – sometimes physically. But Israeli player Andy Ram is bitter, and describes what it is to be an Israeli player in modern, anti-Semitic Sweden:

Never in my career as an athlete have I encountered such hatred and such blend of sports and politics. Up until the last moment, the protestors attempted to prompt the cancelation of the David Cup match between Israel and Sweden. After we already landed here, their leader met with Swedish team captain Mats Wilander and asked him to call off the contest.

The Swedish players actually understand us and are quite embarrassed by what is happening, yet these events have completely changed my perception of Sweden, and it is doubtful whether I’ll want to come back here ever again.

The feelings within the Israel team are very grim. All the innocence that prompted us to play tennis has disappeared, and this match, which was supposed to be a beautiful moment of sports, has become completely worthless. Nothing here is reminiscent of the Davis Cup; what we have is a war atmosphere, tension, and the feeling that something very bad may happen at any moment.

Sweden’s anti-Israel apartheid policy is about more than sport

Neutral Sweden’s mixed World War II legacy is still debated by historians. On the one hand it supplied Nazi Germany with iron ore and ball bearings and allowed the Wehrmacht to use the Swedish railway system to transport soldiers. On the other hand, spurred on by the Danes, it accepted Danish Jews marked for mass murder by the Nazis. Ultimately, the good name of Sweden was redeemed by the unparalleled heroics of one of its own – Raoul Wallenberg, who, using the cover of a Swedish diplomat, helped save tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews destined for Auschwitz, only to disappear into the Soviet Gulag. For decades, no Swedish government had the courage to demand his return from the jaws of the neighboring Russian bear.

While this Swede will forever be revered by the Jewish nation, it is brutally clear in 2009 that Jews and especially those uppity ones from Israel are of little concern to Swedish authorities, as their policies become more reminiscent of apartheid South Africa or Berlin in the 1930s than a 21st-century Scandinavian democracy.

Dozens of anti-Israel activists clashed with police Saturday as they tried to storm a closed arena where Sweden and Israel were playing a Davis Cup tennis match. The activists hurled rocks and firecrackers at police vans as they tried to break through the barricades set up to keep protesters from the arena. Hundreds of riot police pushed them back using truncheons.

George Galloway – previously attacked by friendly Presbyterians in the UK – now finds himself under fire in Egypt: 

A convoy led by the maverick MP George Galloway carrying supplies for Gaza has been attacked in Egypt, apparently injuring several people travelling in his party.

The convoy, carrying aid worth £1 million, was pelted with stones and vandalised with anti-Hamas slogans after it stopped overnight in El-Arish, a small town around 28 miles from the Rafah border crossing with Gaza.

“It’s an absolute disgrace,’’ convoy organiser Yvonne Ridley told the AFP news agency. “The power was cut. Under cover of darkness members of our convoy were attacked with stones.

* Asylum from what? Was he persecuted by his fellow Muslims? Unlikely.  Is seeking fertility treatment for your wife an entitlement to seek asylum in an infidel country? Something doesn’t add up here:

A failed asylum seeker was jailed for 18 months yesterday after admitting dishonestly receiving more than £100,000 in state handouts.

BMW-driving Huseyin Akbulut, 48, came to the UK from Turkey in 1993 to get fertility treatment for his wife.

He unsuccessfully claimed asylum in 2001 and, when appeal rights were exhausted, began fiddling benefits.

The UK Border Agency, who plan to recoup the cash from his assets, said: “He abused the country’s hospitality for his own greed.”

Doncaster crown court heard the local dad-of-one made false claims for six years despite holding key positions in four businesses.

Akbulut was given £66,957 in accommodation payments and £33,225 in cash.

Will Jacqui Smith ban this Islamic hate-monger? Or is she a cowardly hypocrite?

After Wilders, will Smith ban Hezbollah extremist?

Earlier this month, Jacqui Smith, the middle-management chav who passes for Britain’s Home Secretary, banned Geert Wilders from the UK, ostensibly because he engaged in ‘hate speech’, but in reality because she feared violence from British Muslims angry at Wilders’ portrayal of Islam as a religion that preaches violence.

Now she’s under pressure to ban Ibrahim Moussawi, an Islamic extremist who’s a key figure in the propaganda machinery of the terrorist groupl Hezbollah, and James Slack at the Daily Mail isn’t optimistic that she’ll do so.

Coming so soon after the Wilders row Smith may feel she has no option but to ban Moussawi, who’s been allowed into the UK twice before. But if the usual suspects in the ‘moderate’ muslim community start making a noise it won’t be a surprise to see her back down – after all, it’s not as if British Jews are going to threaten to lay siege to Parliament, as Lord Ahmed (who will have plenty of time on his hands for campaigning from his prison cell) promised British Muslims would if Wilders was allowed in.

A new generation of Muslims is being radicalised using the very Government funds that are supposed to be fighting the problem, a new report by the Policy Exchange think-tank says.An obsession with talking to extremists means that moderates are being ignored, leaving the stage clear for radicalisation, according to the report.

Did they say which moderates were being ignored? This is an important question, because obviously the UK government didn’t set out to fund “extremists.” The people they were giving money to presented themselves as “moderates,” and were taken as such. But when “moderate” leaders call for jihad warfare against the British Navy, the situation can become a bit confused.

Hitchens and the Push to Criminalize Criticism of Islam

The Dobbs segment to which this story refers is above. It is a bit careless — the Islamic organization in question is the “Organization of the Islamic Conference,” not the “Organization of Islamic Countries” — but the information about the imminent threat to free speech is generally accurate.

And yes, it could happen here.

Christopher Hitchens on the latest move in the United Nations to criminalise free speech – when applied in criticism of certain beliefs:

Islam affirms itself as the last and final revelation of God’s word, the consummation of all the mere glimpses of the truth vouchsafed to all the foregoing faiths… And it is the so-called mainstream Muslims, grouped in the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, who are now demanding through the UN that Islam not only be allowed to make such absolutist claims, but that it be officially shielded from any criticism as a result…

(T)he non-binding UN Resolution 62/154, on “combating defamation of religions”, seeks to extend protection not to humans but to opinions and to ideas, granting only the latter immunity from being “offended”…

For example, paragraph five “expresses its deep concern that Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism”…

You see how the trick is pulled? In the same weeks this resolution comes up for its annual renewal at the UN, its chief sponsor-government (Pakistan) makes an agreement with the local Taliban forces to close girls’ schools in the Swat Valley region (a mere 150km or so from the capital in Islamabad) and subject the inhabitants to sharia law. And this capitulation comes in direct response to a campaign of horrific violence and intimidation, including public beheadings.

Yet the religion of those who carry out the campaign is not to be mentioned, lest it “associate” that faith with human rights violations or terrorism.

                            

THE Muslim religion makes unusually large claims for itself. All religions do this, of course, in that they claim to know and to be able to interpret the wishes of a supreme being.

But Islam affirms itself as the last and final revelation of God’s word, the consummation of all the mere glimpses of the truth vouchsafed to all the foregoing faiths, available by way of the unimprovable, immaculate text of “the recitation”, or Koran.

If there sometimes seems to be something implicitly absolutist or even totalitarian in such claims, it may result not from a fundamentalist reading of the holy book but from the religion itself.

Anjem Choudary has been featured here many times. This good Muslim, who is also a lawyer, cannot be accused of misunderstanding his religion. In a country where Geert Wilders is banned, this animal openly  preaches the overthrow of the government and incites hatred and mass-murder. Chaudary is a free man, politicians like Gordon Brown, Jacqui Smith and Jack Straw try to ignore his existence.
