A man who allegedly led Ottawa police on a high-speed chase in an SUV and then collided head-on with a police cruiser was released from custody after he claimed diplomatic immunity, officers say.

Policemen attacked for the first time with a chemical bomb

During the Kreuzberg May 1 riots, the police were attacked for the first time with a novel chemical bomb. According to the police, the grenade exploded like a smoke-bomb, and then radiated a yellow, odorless smoke, that took 47 officers out of combat in just a few seconds.

Morgenpost Online was told by security circles that the grenade was hurled towards the officers near the Kottbusser Tor Subway Station. “It first went off like these rather harmless fog grenades, as known from football riots,” says a policeman. In the immediate vicinity of the officers it quickly dispersed a “yellowish, odorless smoke”. This was inhaled by a number of his colleagues.

“A few seconds later, this substance apparently caused a loss of orientation for some officers,” the policeman continued. Some were only able to crawl, others had to vomit on the spot. Because of the complicated situation it was not possible to secure the burned out shell. Later on the object — despite intensive search — remained untraceable.

MK Aryeh Eldad in Israel said:  “Obama makes a shocking parallel between the destruction of European Jewry and the suffering that the Arabs of Israel brought upon themselves when they declared war on Israel.   If Obama does not understand the difference between them, perhaps he will understand it better when he visits the concentration camp in the comings days. And if he doesn’t understand it even there, then Islam will once again teach it to him, just as it taught his predecessor on 9/11.”

I am honored to be in the timeless city of Cairo, and to be hosted by two remarkable institutions. For over a thousand years, Al-Azhar has stood as a beacon of Islamic learning,

…whose Grand Sheikh, Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, has given his approval — on Islamic grounds — to suicide bombing.

and for over a century, Cairo University has been a source of Egypt’s advancement. Together, you represent the harmony between tradition and progress. I am grateful for your hospitality, and the hospitality of the people of Egypt. I am also proud to carry with me the goodwill of the American people, and a greeting of peace from Muslim communities in my country: assalaamu alaykum.
According to Islamic law, a Muslim may only extend this greeting — Peace be upon you — to a fellow Muslim. To a non-Muslim he is to say, “Peace be upon those who are rightly guided,” i.e., Peace be upon the Muslims. Islamic law is silent about what Muslims must do when naive non-Muslim Islamophilic Presidents offer the greeting to Muslims.

We meet at a time of tension between the United States and Muslims around the world – tension rooted in historical forces that go beyond any current policy debate. The relationship between Islam and the West includes centuries of co-existence and cooperation, but also conflict and religious wars. More recently, tension has been fed by colonialism that denied rights and opportunities to many Muslims, and a Cold War in which Muslim-majority countries were too often treated as proxies without regard to their own aspirations. Moreover, the sweeping change brought by modernity and globalization led many Muslims to view the West as hostile to the traditions of Islam.

“Co-existence and cooperation”? When and where, exactly?

So I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed.

Revealed is a deliberate word choice to make it appear that Islam is the true religion! “Founded” would be more accurate.

And I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.

Worldwide? Is that the American President’s responsibility? I don’t think he is too concerned about most other kinds of stereotyping worldwide.

Much has been made of the fact that an African-American with the name Barack Hussein Obama could be elected President.

Now he uses his name to score points; he sure downplayed it during the campaign.

* One person has reportedly been killed during a shootout which was sparked by a Palestinian Authority arrest operation in Kalkilya on Thursday.

According to reports, the death occurred after PA security forces surrounded a house in the hopes of arresting Hamas men who had barricaded themselves inside. There was no word of the identity of the fatality.

The incident came just one day after Hamas’s military wing, Izzadin Kassam urged its members in the West Bank to open fire at any PA policeman who tries to arrest them.

Abu Obaidah, a spokesman for Izzadin Kassam, warned Abbas’s security forces on Wednesday against repeating another fatal arrest operation in the city days before. “Our men will resist any attempt to arrest them by Abbas’s treacherous forces because they are working on behalf of the Zionist enemy,” he said. “We don’t trust these forces, nor do our people.”

Meanwhile, PA security sources said on Wednesday that the two Hamas militiamen killed earlier this week by Palestinian Authority policemen in Kalkilya initially used a local woman as a human shield during the seven-hour gun battle before she herself threw a grenade at the policemen.

The woman, Amal, is the wife of Abdel Nasser al-Basha, the owner of the house where the two Hamas men, Muhammad Samman and Muhammad Yassin, had been hiding.

The sources claimed that an investigation by the PA security forces into Sunday’s bloody standoff showed that the three PA security officers who died were killed by a hand grenade that the woman lobbed at them as they tried to enter the house.

“The Hamas gunmen were hiding behind the woman, who surprised the police officers by throwing a hand grenade at them,” the sources told The Jerusalem Post. “This is not the first time that Hamas has used women or children as human shields.”

Media Cowards: Beyond Despicable!

The networks, which saw the apparently politically-motivated murder of a Kansas doctor who performed late term abortions as a major story, haven’t been so interested in a Muslim convert who specifically targeted and shot two Army privates outside a Little Rock recruiting office, killing one, William Long. None mentioned it on Monday night and on Tuesday evening, as all aired follow-up pieces on Dr. George Tiller, only NBC gave it a few seconds.

A Tuesday Arkansas Democrat-Gazette post reported Abdul Hakim Muhammad was “on a mission to ‘kill as many people in the Army as he could,’ police said” and targeted the “soldiers ‘because of what they had done to Muslims in the past.’” (The Little Rock paper noted both victims “had recently completed basic training and had never seen combat.”)

Tuesday morning, ABC’s Good Morning America ran a full story while CBS’s Early Show and NBC’s Today aired shorter items, but as noted in an earlier BiasAlert post: “The Today show completely ignored two facts about a man who murdered a soldier at an Army recruiting station in Arkansas: He had just converted to Islam and was being investigated by the FBI for a trip to Yemen. Instead, NBC’s Ann Curry, in anchor briefs throughout the show, vaguely explained that Abdulhakim Muhammad was ‘upset with the military.’”

After a full story Tuesday evening on the background of the man who murdered Tiller, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams read this shorter item on the Arkansas case: 

In Little Rock, Arkansas today, a suspect who was already being watched by the FBI pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in yesterday’s shooting at an Army recruiting center. The prosecutors say Abdul Hakim Muhammad, a converted Muslim, admitted shooting 23-year-old private William Long for political and religious reasons. Another soldier was wounded. Investigators are looking at whether Muhammad, who recently was in Yemen and Somalia, was inspired by others, perhaps, to carry out the attack.
