The dewy-eyed activist, nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize, announced Sunday she wants an end to the West’s free-market capitalist system which she blames for “imperialism, oppression, genocide… racist, oppressive extractionism.”

Calling for a “system-wide transformation” at the London Literary Festival where she launched her new book, Thunberg says the world’s current “normal” – dictated by the people voted into power – has failed.

She further blames capitalism’s “failure” for global “climate breakdown” that can only be redressed by a radical revolution by the people, for the people. She declared:

We are never going back to normal again because ‘normal’ was already a crisis. What we refer to as normal is an extreme system built on the exploitation of people and the planet.

It is a system defined by colonialism, imperialism, oppression and genocide by the so-called global North to accumulate wealth that still shapes our current world order.

Thunberg added: “If economic growth is our only priority, then what we are experiencing now should be exactly what we should be expecting.”

The second round of Brazil’s presidential elections was held this Sunday, Oct. 30. The former president, Lula da Silva, who has served prison time for corruption, won 50.9 percent of the vote, and the incumbent, Jair Bolsonaro, received 49.1 percent.

This is according to judges of the Electoral Superior Tribunal (TSE), Brazil’s top electoral authority.

Fair elections invariably involve paper-based voting or some paper trail that allows even electronic voters to have agency over the ballot count or to check their ballots themselves.

With the current electronic voting system in Brazil, however, there is no absolute guarantee that Brazilians’ votes were exactly what they have cast in the ballot box because there is no actual hard copy register kept by the government for each vote cast electronically.

On Aug. 10, 2021, the Brazilian Congress failed to pass a constitutional amendment that would have required the printing of physical ballots that could be checked by the voter, thus providing a physical oversight to the electronic process.

Unfortunately, that important proposal was rejected in great part due to the strong political lobbying of the then-top electoral judge, Luís Roberto Barroso, who is also a Supreme Court judge.

He managed to convince enough MPs to reject these reasonable amendment proposals.

Riots all over Europe…

Riots broke out in several cities in Scotland, Germany, Austria and several cities and towns in France where 86 people were arrested and nearly 90 cars were set on fire.

In the Scottish city of Dundee, riots took place when gangs of young people blocked roads and threw fireworks, forcing drivers to turn away in the Kirkton area, with the rioting lasting several hours.

Chief Superintendent Phil Davison stated that no arrests were made but added, “I can assure our local residents that there will be an enhanced police presence in the coming days,” the BBC reports.

“I fully appreciate and understand the distress caused to local residents. Nobody should be in their house and seeing the sort of behaviour that we did last night,” he added.

Along with the fires, rioters smashed windows at a local school and one police officer was injured by a firework.

Germany also saw rioting in Hamburg where youths set garbage bins on fire and threw objects at the police, including rocks, fireworks, bottles and eggs.

A central French police laboratory has found that organised protesters targeted riot police with chemical agents after testing samples from a recent protest in Paris.
