Polls show a steady lead for the right-wing alliance in the September 25 Italian elections, with Meloni’s conservatives promising aid to families to stem falling birthrates, and populist Salvini vowing action on immigration.

Social conservative Brothers of Italy (FdI) leader Giorgia Meloni has launched the party’s election manifesto promising to support “Made in Italy” goods, halt illegal immigration, and support the country’s birth rates.

The Brothers of Italy leader launched the 40-page manifesto this week, which promises first to support Italian families and look to increase the country’s birth rate, which is one of the lowest in Europe and fell to record lows during the first year of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Among the pro-family policies is a payment of 300 euros per month for children during their first year, which reduces to 260 euros per month until the child is 18. The FdI also want to reduce value-added taxes (VAT) on childhood products such as baby formulas and wants to make the first hundred thousand euros of any first home purchase tax-free.

Meloni’s party also promises to do more to showcase Italian producers of various goods from wine to luxury and cultural products, including producing “Made in Italy” certificates for companies and promoting commercial tourism for Italian-made products.

Pope Francis Prays U.N. Climate Summit Will ‘Unite the Human Family’

ROME — Pope Francis said Wednesday that “Mother Earth groans and begs us to stop our abuse” of creation.

Following his weekly general audience in the Vatican, the pontiff noted September 1 will mark the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, kicking off a month-long “Season of Creation,” culminating on October 4, the feast of St Francis of Assisi.

The pope went on to express his wish that the call to listen to the voice of creation will “foster in everyone a concrete commitment to care for our common home.”

As he has done on other occasions, Francis blamed the destruction of the earth on “consumerist excesses” before proceeding to plug the upcoming United Nations climate change conference to be held from November 6 to 18, 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

He also declared that humanity is experiencing “twin crises” in the form of global warming and biodiversity loss.

“At the mercy of our consumerist excesses, our sister Mother Earth groans and begs us to stop our abuse and her destruction,” he said.

Hearing insults is like receiving a “mini slap in the face”, regardless of the precise context the insult is made in. That is the conclusion of a new paper published in Frontiers in Communication. The researchers used electroencephalography (EEG) and skin conductance recordings to compare the short-term impact of repeated verbal insults to that of repeated positive or neutral evaluations.

Explains Dr Marijn Struiksma of Utrecht University,

“Our study shows that in a psycholinguistic laboratory experiment without real interaction between speakers, insults deliver lexical ‘mini slaps in the face’, such that the strongly negative evaluative words involved that a participant reads, automatically grab attention during lexical retrieval, regardless of how often that retrieval occurs.”

Just as the Framers never would have included the right to bear arms in the Bill of Rights had they known that bullets would be invented, they would have left out free speech had they known that a perceived microaggression is the equivalent of a slap in the face.
