Hezbollah fighters, who seem to be gaining the upper hand in the internecine conflict

Hezbollah fighters seized control of rival pro-Government strongholds in Beirut today as gunbattles rocked the Lebanese capital for a third day, edging the nation dangerously close to all-out civil war.

The Shia Muslim group, the most powerful armed movement in Lebanon, forced the shutdown of all media belonging to the family of Saad Hariri, the parliamentary majority leader. A rocket hit the outer perimeter of his Beirut residence.

Gunfire and the thump of exploding rocket-propelled grenades echoed across west Beirut, where the fighting was concentrated between Sunni militants loyal to the Western-backed Government and gunmen from the Shia opposition

Red Cross officials said that at least 10 people were killed in the street battles that erupted yesterday after Hassan Nasrallah, the Hezbollah leader, called a government crackdown on his Iranian-backed Shia Muslim group a declaration of war.

“West Beirut plunges into urban warfare,” reported the French-language daily L’Orient-Le Jour.

Witnesses said that several Sunni neighbourhoods in west Beirut considered bastions of Lebanon’s ruling bloc had been overrun by militants from Hezbollah and its ally Amal.

Fierce gunbattles also raged in the mixed Sunni-Shiite-Christian neighbourhood of Hamra where opposition militants also appeared to be gaining ground, AFP correspondents said.

Al-Qaeda ‘declares war on Hezbollah’

* Yeah! Go for it, boys! Knock yourselves out!

etesami20080509191734250.jpg

Al-Qaeda has reportedly called on its operatives to go to Lebanon and defend what it called the Sunni community of the country.

The report came while some Arab media outlets described the current clashes in Lebanon as a fight between Sunni and Shia communities.

In an interviews with Sunni clerics with links to Saad Hariri’s pro-government bloc, Al-Arabiya TV network described the ongoing clashes as a sectarian strife.

Sheikh Ali al-Jozo, Mufti of the Jebel region, who is well known for his harsh stance against Hezbollah told the TV network that the clashes are a battle between Lebanon’s Shia and Sunni communities and called on Arab leaders to prevent “Iran’s influence in the country.”

The TV network reported that al-Qaeda on all of its websites urged its operatives to defend the Sunni community of Lebanon.

The reports came while in interviews with NBN and al-Manar TV stations on Thursday, a number of Sunni clerics said that the clashes are not a sectarian strife and many Sunni Muslims in Lebanon support Hezbollah.

* In the end, there will be a major massacre of Christians at the hands of Moslems. This is the fate of Christians now in the Middle East since the Europeans have turned their backs on them. The only refuge they have is Israel or to leave the region altogether. Islam is incompatible with democracy, so Lebanon is finished as a democratic state.
Shel Zahav – Israel (05/09/2008 15:44)

* While Hizbollah takes over Lebanon, the United States  stands idily by.

*  We spill the blood of our brave soliders, marines and sailors while squandering our resources and money all for the “democracy” in Iraq. All for what will eventually be a sharia state. Democracy under sharia. How idiotic is that?

*  We allow parts of Serbia to be torn from it by islamic Albanians.. We allow and support Islamics to establish the heroin fiefdom of Kosovo and the ethnic cleansing of Christian Serbs. We will do nothing as parts of Macedonia will be torn apart from those same islamic forces….

*   Yet we will let a democratic, pro-west, non-islamic country fall. All the while we standby as the wholesale slaughterof Lebanese Christians begins….

*   If ever a cause was worth sending in our forces to the middle east, it would be to save Lebanon from hezbollah and iran.

The coming Balkan caliphate

In September 2001, George W. Bush admonished the world, “Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists.” But how will the world know where to stand when America itself is with the terrorists?

Such is the America that operates in the Balkans, and such is the question underlying Christopher Deliso’s new book, “The Coming Balkan Caliphate”, which tells the most terrifying story never told in the War on Terror. An American journalist based in Macedonia, Deliso has been investigating radical Islamic trends in the region for the better part of a decade. He’s the director of the independent Balkan news website Balkanalysis.com and a field analyst on Macedonian politics for the Economics Intelligence Unit, London. His book examines the repercussions of the free world’s alliance with radicals in Kosovo and Bosnia, one of which surfaced just this month with the attempted bombing of the U.S. embassy in Austria. The vivid picture Deliso paints, one that is corroborated by daily reports that have been streaming out of the region since the Clinton administration rallied NATO countries to the side of “moderate” Muslims against Yugoslavia, is more disturbing than anything that even the most vigilant Jihad-watchers can imagine.

On the first page of the first chapter, Deliso dispels the unanimous, carefully crafted and guarded script that the Bosnian Muslims were innocent, hapless victims of genocidal Serbian aggression:

It would not be until the watershed events of September 11, 2001, that the role of Bosnia as an incubator and catalyst for international terrorism would become impossible to ignore. This embarrassing truth had long been suppressed by the many Western diplomats, journalists, and public relations hacks who had built large fortunes and careers on protecting this myth of their own making…Preliminary to any historical debate, therefore it must be acknowledged that high-powered Washington lobbyists and much of the Western media purposefully distorted, omitted, and concealed key facts on the ground.

Indeed, Caliphate affirms what the 9/11 Commission itself found: that “the Bosnian jihad had essentially created a global empire for terror.” It served as a finishing school for terrorists bent on killing Americans and Europeans, but who cut their teeth on the Serbs. The indictment for the 2004 Madrid bombing mentions Bosnia 300 times, and a planned rocket attack on major world leaders at the 2005 funeral of Pope John Paul II, which was summarily unreported, was hatched in a backwater Bosnian village — and thwarted by a tip to the Italians and Croatians from Bosnia’s Serb Republic. Further, “a number of key figures associated with the 9/11 plot,” writes Deliso, “were veterans of the Bosnian jihad…Bosnia had become one of al Qaeda’s most important European assets…” As well, Deliso mentions that the 7/7 bombings in Britain netted the arrest of several Balkan Muslims and British Muslims radicalized by the Balkan jihads. But Caliphate also reminds us of a less known Balkan connection:

Although almost forgotten by now, in the immediate aftermath of the [9/11] attacks, tight-lipped U.S. government sources disclosed an explosive fact: that there was a definite connection between the 9/11 plotters and Albania-based Islamic terrorists. Further, these officials attested that KLA [Kosovo Liberation Army] members had indeed been trained at al Qaeda camps in Afghanistan…

The Farce of our Kosovo Mission

By Julia Gorin

After my article exposing the farce of our Kosovo mission ran in American Legion Magazine last month, I heard from a soldier in Kosovo who was incredulous that someone was actually and finally talking about the region. I proceeded to publish two letters from him in this space, about his experiences and observations there, some of which confirm the free run that jihadists have in Kosovo, the fact that Albanians are being radicalized, and the notion that we should not have intervened in Kosovo as we did. Only there since November, the National Guard soldier stopped short of confirming the ethnic cleansing and slow genocide of Kosovo’s Christians that I’ve described in my articles.

Unfortunately for the deniers, the facts are also now chronicled in a book by a member of the international mission in Kosovo, entitled Hiding Genocide in Kosovo—a Crime Against God and Humanity.

don’t be fooled by that “love” for America; it’s waning fast:

In many areas young Kosovo Albanians are being converted to the Wahabist faction, and are highly visible in their telltale short haircuts, beards, and ankle-length pants. As well, many Arabs are present from the Middle East and France….Moreover, anti-Western jihadist sermons are now a regular feature at many of the new mosques. Western military intelligence officials have stated that the findings of their investigations into the jihadist terror networks is routinely ignored or blocked by NATO, UN and US officials.

Top Sunni accuses Hezbollah of ‘invading’ Beirut – Summary

hamas-march-20040520.jpg

Beirut – Lebanon’s Sunni Muslim Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Kabbani accused the Iranian-backed Shiite movement late Wendesday Hezbollah of “invading” Beirut. “This is clearly an invasion of the city by an armed group,” Kabbani said in a televised statement, referring to the blocking of main roads leading to the capital by Hezbollah to protest the high cost of living.
“We call on the Arab Muslim countries to immediately stop such actions by Hezbollah, because Lebanon is for Muslims and Christians together,” the Grand Mufti said.
“Hezbollah is today trying to impose its hegemony as a political party on Lebanon, by kidnapping the central of the capiatl and today Beirut International airport is being kidnapped,” he said.

images26.jpeg

In “After 60 Years, Arabs in Israel Are Outsiders,” by Ethan Bronner, the New Duranty Times via DW laments the plight of the Arabs displaced from Israel in 1948.

Not mentioned, unsurprisingly:

1. The fact that most of the Arabs left because they were told to do so by their leaders, with the promise that they would return soon, after the Arab states had obliterated Israel.

2. The fact that hundreds of thousands of Jews were expelled from Muslim countries at the same time.

3. The fact that refugee problems in Europe and India in the wake of World War II were settled within a few years, but that the Palestinian refugee problem has been artificially kept alive by the Arab states as a stick with which they could beat Israel — no Arab state offered the Palestinians citizenship after 1948 except Jordan.

4. The fact that Jews in an Islamic state ruled by Islamic law would be relegated to second-class dhimmi status.

* Worse. Much worse. Slavelike conditions…

And on and on. Par for the course, really.

Denmark: First veiled judge (to be)

sabba.jpg

Sabba Mirza (25) studies law and works as an apprentice for the Danish Court Administration. In a couple of years she’ll look for her first job as a deputy judge, which is a judge in training.

From Islam in Europe

She has just one goal – to be a judge, and only with a headscarf.

Mirza says that her headscarf is part of her chosen lifestyle, and that it’s more important than her career. If she can’t get a job in Denmark, she’ll move to a country where people are more informed and can overlook the headscarf.

She says that if her daughter would choose to go with a headscarf and that would mean that her job opportunities would be limited, it would be natural to move to another country.

* Good riddance, Mirza!

*  Hijab is rarely a ‘chosen lifestyle,’ because those who don’t wear hijab are beaten and sometimes killed, as we can see here…

* But how will Mirza try a Muslim rapist who believes raping infidel women are war booty?

* How will Mirza try a jihadist who believes killing infidels is a religious duty according to Koran, sira & hadith?

Australian National Imams Council Accused of "Unspeakable Corruption"

‘Deception’ in imams’ mufti choice

* The cult of the deceived deceivers:

* Who guessed it? It looks as if Sheik Fehmi is nothing more than El Hilali’s stooge. This picture here is quite telling:

putridmullahs.jpg

 * Now who’s the boss here?

“You probably don’t need it but women in hot countries do”!!! (Melbourne   Age 21/7/01 p7)

* Hat tip: Australian Islamist Monitor/Natalie O’Brien -The Australian

THE Australian National Imams Council has been accused of allowing “unspeakable corruption” and deception to mar the selection of the spiritual head of the country’s 300,000-strong Muslim community.

The council has been attacked by members who say it broke its own rules in the rush to appoint Fehmi Naji el-Imam the mufti of Australia in June last year.

The allegations are made in a letter sent to the council last year by the Board of Imams in Queensland after Sheik Fehmi was named as successor to Sydney imam Taj Din al-Hilali.

The Queensland imams said they had been told that “during the selection of mufti, very many irregularities and unspeakable corruption took place”. None of the criticism has been directed at Sheik Fehmi personally.

The critics have asked the ANIC to reconvene to elect a new mufti and discuss the council’s future. “Your urgent action in the above matter is urgently required to avoid any further confusion, irregularities, corruption, deception and misunderstanding,” the letter says.

It is understood the council has not replied to the letter nor the Queensland imams’ allegations.

The ANIC is being widely criticised over its silence on issues facing the Muslim community, including the allegations of corruption in its ranks.

Telephone calls and emails to the mufti and the council have all been unanswered.

The ANIC’s public silence has angered some of the nation’s Islamic leaders, who say the council is not fulfilling the duties for which it was established.

The former chairman of John Howard’s Muslim community reference group, Ameer Ali, has said ANIC members had privately admitted they did not want to speak out publicly nor get involved in political issues.

Dr Ali said there had been a lot of criticism of Sheik Fehmi, who is nearing 80 and in ill health.

“If he can’t make a comment on issues, he should give it up,” Dr Ali said. “They need to have a spokesperson to respond to some of the issues.”

The council, the only national organisation of imams and Islamic scholars, was set up in 2006 after a conference involving 250 imams from around Australia.

Sydney imam Ibrahim el-Shafie of the Islamic Charitable Projects Association said yesterday the 2006 conference had agreed the ANIC would act as the representative of the Muslim community and provide the media with information.

The dispute follows the controversy over Sheik Hilali’s comments in a Ramadan sermon in which he likened scantily clad women to uncovered meat.

Hilali: “Imam’s council ‘just a bunch of zero’s”

Sheik Hilali told The Australian yesterday the ANIC was ineffective, and with a few exceptions was “just a bunch of zeros”.

Patel: blames scrutiny on “ill informed reporting”

Australian Federation of Islamic Councils president Ikebal Patel said the council was functioning and having regular meetings.

“They are available to the Muslim community, and personally I think they should be available to the media,” Mr Patel said.

“There are certainly times when Islam is under intense scrutiny – some of it fuelled by The Australian’s ill-informed reporting – but this should be no reason for the imams’ council not to engage with the community.”

Nigeria oil rebels offer to halt attacks if Jimmy Carter is allowed to help talks

nigerianrebel385_333305a.jpg

Lagos A Nigerian rebel, above, stands guard after a Royal Dutch Shell base was bombed in the state of Bayelsa at the weekend. Attacks by the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta have raised the price of oil to a record $122 (£62) a barrel.

The Niger Delta rebels said they would stop attacks on the oil industry if the Nigerian Government would allow Jimmy Carter, the former US President, to act as a mediator in the conflict. The rebels, whose campaign of violence has cut output in the largest African oil producer by about a fifth, asked Mr Carter to act as a negotiator earlier this year. “We are ready to call off all hostilities and hold a temporary ceasefire in honour of President Carter should the Nigerian Government accept,” the rebels said in an e-mailed statement.

John Stremlau, the vice-president for peace programmes at the Carter Centre, said that Mr Carter would take such a request from all parties seriously but it was “woefully premature to suggest he will plunge himself into mediating this conflict”.

Mr Carter failed in a previous attempt to mediate in the conflict in 1999 but he is familiar to many senior members of the different militant factions. (Reuters)

“Those who think they can revive the stinking corpse of the usurping and fake Israeli regime by throwing a birthday party are seriously mistaken,” the official IRNA news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as having said.

“Today the reason for the Zionist regime’s existence is questioned, and this regime is on its way to annihilation.”

Ahmadinejad further stated that Israel “has reached the end like a dead rat after being slapped by the Lebanese” – referring to the Second Lebanon War in the summer of 2006.

GRAND HYATT BANS ALCOHOL, BOTTLES THREW IN THE NILE

(ANSAmed) – CAIRO, MAY 5 – No more alcohol in the British pub at the Cairo Grand Hyatt, where zealous employees last week threw in the Nile alcohol worth almost a million euro. Saudi Arabian Sheikh Abdel Aziz Ibrahim, owner of the Hotel, banned alcohol prompting the Hyatt¿s international management to order an explanation and triggering worries the hotel may lose its five-star status and, eventually, the Hyatt brand name. Although the Hyatt chain does not oblige individual hotels to sell alcohol, a dispute arose because Abdel Aziz Ibrahim did not notify his international supervisors, before making the move. Brother-in-law of the late Saudi King Fahd, Abdel Aziz Ibrahim is known as a staunch Muslim. His religious convictions are widely assumed to be the impetus for the ban. Last week he drained an estimated 964,136 euro worth of alcohol was thrown to the sewage of the hotel, a hotel staffer who chose to be anonymous told ANSAmed. “This is a Saudi interference in the Egypt’s economy and private affairs if they strictly apply religious traditions then they ought to move away from entertainment tourism which contradicts religious beliefs in many ways,” said the source. “Some are happy because they say he is a good Muslim and now our money will be halal (religiously legal),” one source said. Others fear the move will dissuade foreign guests from booking there, pushing the tourism ministry to downgrade the hotel’s ranking, impelling Hyatt Hotels to pull out and further buttressing Egypt’s reputation as a ‘dry country.’

WASHINGTON, May 6 (UPI) — U.S. officials are being advised in internal government documents to avoid referring publicly to al-Qaida and other terrorist groups as Islamic or Muslim, and not to use terms like jihad or mujahedin, which “unintentionally legitimize” terrorism.

“There’s a growing consensus (in the administration) that we need to move away from that language,” said a former senior administration official who was involved until recently in policy debates on the issue.

“You have a large percentage of the world’s population that subscribes to this religion,” noted the former official. “Unintentionally alienating them is not a judicious move.”

* Perhaps they should intentionally alienate them instead of sticking their heads in the sand.

Losing Our Spines to Save Our Necks

 Fitna P 1

Musulmanic defenders of the profit are trying to spam youtube sites with false Fitna clips, trying to confuse already irritated Westerners even more. Here’s the real thing, just for good measure:

Geert Wilders, conservative Dutch politician and provocateur, has become the latest projectile in the world’s most important culture war: the zero-sum conflict between civil society and traditional Islam. Wilders, who lives under perpetual armed guard due to death threats, recently released a 15 minute film entitled Fitna (“strife” in Arabic) over the internet. The film has been deemed offensive because it juxtaposes images of Muslim violence with passages from the Qur’an. Given that the perpetrators of such violence regularly cite these same passages as justification for their actions, merely depicting this connection in a film would seem uncontroversial. Controversial or not, one surely would expect politicians and journalists in every free society to strenuously defend Wilders’ right to make such a film. But then one would be living on another planet, a planet where people do not happily repudiate their most basic freedoms in the name of “religious sensitivity.”

Witness the free world’s response to Fitna: The Dutch government sought to ban the film outright, and European Union foreign ministers publicly condemned it, as did UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Dutch television refused to air Fitna unedited. When Wilders declared his intention to release the film over the internet, his U.S. web-host, Network Solutions, took his website offline.

Into the breach stepped Liveleak, a British video-sharing website, which finally aired the film on March 27th. It received over 3 million views in the first 24 hours. The next day, however, Liveleak removed Fitna from its servers, having been terrorized into self-censorship by threats to its staff. But the film had spread too far on the internet to be suppressed (and Liveleak, after taking further security measures, has since reinstated it on its site as well).

Read it all

* Islam doesn’t hold up under scrutiny:

* Koranimals the world over have condemned the movie, although Wilders film is merely matching Islamic atrocieties and hatespeeches by their clerics with Koranic scriptures, which the terrorists themselves use to justify mass-murder.  So far the defenders have failed entirely in their efforts, and the latest attempt by Ali Eteratz in the Guardian is pathetic, devoid of logic, reason and common sense.

 Islam isn’t Islamism

Atheist writer Sam Harris’ inability to draw a line between Islam and Islamism hurts the very project he claims to support

At Huffington Post, free-thinker Sam Harris recently wrote about Geert Wilders and the film, Fitna. His essay was long and meandering. One of its thrusts that I found odd was his conflation of Islam and Islamism. Further, he actually used the term “the threat of Islam”.

Harris’ essay was quickly identified and struck down in the blogosphere.

“This is rank imperialism dressed up as embarrassingly naive Cumbaya,” said Hullabaloo.

* More on Eteraz here “I could have masturbated in that time.”

Newshoggers said: “The problem with his little comparison is that he’s comparing a tree to a leaf. He isn’t comparing Mormonism to Islam, but taking the FLDS, ‘depraved cult’ and comparing it to Islam ‘in the aggregate’, so that he can say that all Muslims are worse than the most extremist Mormons.”

Kyle E Moore joined in: “Call Islam evil all you want, you are free to do so, but understand that stamping out the religion will not make the problem go away, but only make room for a new problem using the same basic principles that saw the rise of radical Islamic terrorism.”

One thing I wish Sam would realise: the precise kind of Muslims who support atheists and apostates – taking me as an example – are not particularly interested in demonising the aggregate of Islam. This is because the tools to help apostates and atheists come from within the positive traditions and cultures that surround Islam.
