ALGECIRAS, SPAIN — Spain, known for having one of the most tolerant immigration policies in Europe and accepting boatloads of migrants when no other EU nation would, was expected to open its doors even wider under its new socialist government. But that policy now appears to be going in reverse.

In a country that has shunned anti-immigration currents prevalent in much of Europe, the mass expulsion of 166 Sub-Saharan Africans who forced their way through barbed wire fences last month and attacked guards along the Spanish north African enclave of Ceuta’s border with Morocco, has become an embarrassment for Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, officials and analysts say.

“Humanitarianism is not permissiveness” said Spanish interior minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska before a parliamentary hearing on Wednesday .”Orderly, secure and legal immigration is possible, but not violent migration that threatens our country and its security forces.”

More than 600 migrants stormed across six-meter-high fences onto Spanish territory on July 26, hurling acid and feces, and firing home made flame throwers at border guards.Several members of Spain’s Civil Guard police force were seriously injured in the struggle, triggering calls from their top commanders for an immediate crackdown.

Spain has generally enforced a policy granting asylum to migrants who reach Spanish soil by sea or through land borders around Ceuta and Melilla, enclaves that are surrounded by Morocco.

Once they have invaded a country, they are that country’s problem. Since it is not politically feasible to fly them out over the sea and drop them into the ocean, getting rid of them ranges from difficult to impossible.

So don’t let them infiltrate your country in the first place. Invasion is invasion, whether the conquerors carry rifles or tearful tales of a hard life back home.

Open Borders NGOs Furious as Gibraltar Strips ‘Rescue’ Vessel of Licence 

Following the docking of the Aquarius in Marseilles, no migrant transport NGO vessels are currently operating in the Mediterranean as some face increasing legal pressure from European countries.

Of the currently operating migrant transport NGOs, not one has a vessel that was not docked in port at the start of this week, with the ships Lifeline, Sea Watch 3, and the Seefuchs all being kept in dock in Malta, Il Giornale reports.

Since June, the vessel MV Lifeline has been impounded in Malta. Maltese authorities have questioned the captain who now faces charges of steering an unregistered vessel due to the fact he had labelled the ship a “pleasure yacht” and had no flag flying when in international waters. A verdict in the case is expected in September.

While the Aquarius has been able to operate, despite Italian populist Interior Minister Matteo Salvini refusing port access, troubles for the NGO who operate the vessel, SOS Méditerranée, have been growing.

One of the men arrested for the murder of a native German in Chemnitz had a criminal record, and was supposed to have been deported in 2016. He has been identified as a 22-year-old Iraqi named Yousif A., and his accomplice is a Syrian named Alaa S.

In other news, Dutch police shot and wounded a man who went on a stabbing rampage in a train station in Amsterdam. The attacker, reportedly an Afghan, lightly wounded two people before being shot. His motive is unknown, but the authorities are considering the possibility that the attack was terror-related.

Newly chairing the EU’s six-month rotating presidency, Austria has called for European defence ministers to send soldiers to secure the continent’s borders and repel illegal immigrants.

At a closed-door meeting with his counterparts from other EU nations, defence minister Mario Kunasek argued the bloc should adopt the “proven” frontier protection mode used by Austria, which sees military units and police officers guard the border.

Speaking after the gathering in Vienna, the Freedom Party (FPÖ) minister said that “positive discussion” had taken place regarding the proposal, telling journalists “We have got to protect our borders effectively,” according to Reuters.

The defence minister’s proposal comes after Austria’s conservative-populist coalition government staged war games featuring helicopters and hundreds of police units and soldiers earlier in the summer which simulated the arrival of hundreds of migrants heading from the Balkans towards Western Europe.

Just as Steyn foretold: wild scenes in Chemnitz

Mark Steyn examined various European demographic and political trends back in 2006, leading to a bleak prediction:

My view of Europe in 20 years’ time is that you’ll be switching on the TV, you’ll be looking at scenes of burning and conflagration and riots in the street. You will have a couple of countries that are maybe in civil war, at least on the brink of it.

You will have neofascists’ resurgence in some countries and you’ll have other countries that have just been painlessly euthanized in which a Muslim political class has effectively got its way without a shot being fired – and large numbers of people, particularly young people, have left those countries and have moved on to whoever will take them.

In Chemnitz, Germany, week-long anti-immigrant rallies show that Steyn’s prediction is coming true – eight years ahead of schedule:

[The] levels of aggression and support – some 6000 people in one demonstration – have unnerved this city and stunned the nation …

The extremists have openly saluted Hitler and chased down immigrants in targeted attacks. Fuelled by Facebook posts spreading what one German official described as “fake news,” the crowds have gathered so quickly they have twice left police overmatched.

Dozens of people have been injured in duelling demonstrations. Chancellor Angela Merkel has condemned the “mob-like behaviour” that is “at odds with the rule of law in our country” …

The ability of once-disparate extremist groups to work together this week and mobilise such large crowds on such short notice has set off worries that xenophobic messages are finding a more receptive audience in Germany, as the country seeks to integrate more than 1.5 million recently arrived asylum seekers.

Integration doesn’t seem to be working:

The turmoil in Chemnitz began with a middle-of-the-night fight: A 3am altercation that left a 35-year-old German citizen dead of stab wounds. A Syrian and an Iraqi – both in their early 20s – have been detained in connection with the killing.

Neatly connecting Germany’s two historic totalitarian impulses, the Chemnitz demonstrations kicked off beneath a giant bronze bust of Karl Marx:
