Some good news, for a change:

At issue here was not true hate speech — racial slurs, etc. — which are indefensible. Rather, the aim of such laws is to crush political dissent. The Organization of the Islamic Conference is trying to strong-arm Western nations into imposing hate speech laws that will restrict speech about Islam they don’t like, including explorations of the motives and goals of jihad terrorists.

The Canadian academy has really put their foot down. The National Post reports that Hassan Diab, a sociology and anthropology professor at Carleton University, has been teaching a class this summer. One problem, however: he is wanted by French authorities for bombing a Paris synagogue in 1980 that killed four people and injured twenty others. Carleton has finally decided to immediately dismiss Diab, but only after the Canadian chapter of B’nai Brith issued a press release condemning the university’s previous decision to reinstate him to teach this summer following his arrest last November and his pending deportation hearing. Surely a Zionist plot!

Canadian muslims fail to denounce recent terrorist attacks

It is almost two weeks since jihadi Islamists carried out a terrorist attack in Indonesia, causing many casualties, including injuries to two Canadians. The dust had barely settled when on Sunday other jihadis half a world away struck with a vengeance and barbarity that shocked the world. This time, their playground was the Muslim-dominated parts of northern Nigeria. More than 100 people have been killed, and the fighting is reportedly continuing.

One would expect Canadian and U.S. Islamic groups to come out with the usual denunciations but, surprisingly, even clichéd condemnations failed to materialize. In the past, Canadian Islamic groups have issued statements about “Islam being a religion of peace” and that “terrorists do not speak for Islam,” but not this time.

Compare this silence with the brouhaha over the July 1 stabbing in Germany of a single hijabi-wearing Egyptian. It triggered demonstrations. The executive director of the Canadian Islamic Congress denounced the media for their supposed silence. He said if the woman’s killer had been a Muslim, “The media would’ve reported it widely. Then for days afterward, they would deliberate the case and conclude that Muslims are ‘brutal and uncivilized.’ But when a racist European murders an innocent woman, the silence is deafening.”

Australia’s  resident Islamo-shyster  Yusuf Irfan was so enraged by this that he put up an extra blogpost wondering  “How Bolt and Blair might spin this murdered woman’s story …”-

But from his writing its hard to know what bothers him more: the murder  of the litigatious muslimah  or the  “white-skinned European man”who killed her.  (When Muslims kill Muslims, or when Muslims kill infidels, its a non-event/ed)

Too much honor: 4 women found in submerged car; cops make arrests in Montreal

Rona Amir Mohammed’s sister, Diba Masoomi, said: “We are convinced that this is a crime of honour.” We learn here that “the teenage girls dressed in modern fashion,” which may have been part of the problem.

Kingston Police have arrested at least three people in connection with the mysterious deaths of four Montreal women found in a submerged car in Kingston Mills June 30.

“For some time, my sister, as well as the Shafi couple’s oldest daughter, Zainab, had been receiving death threats for social, cultural and family reasons,” Masoomi’s email to Kingston Police states.

In an interview through translation, Masoomi, who does not speak English or French, explained that Rona Mohammed has stayed in regular contact with relatives in Europe, and has told them she feared for her life.

“She was really afraid,” Masoomi told the Whig-Standard, through her daughter Elaha Masoomi. “There were death threats.”

Diba Masoomi said that Rona Mohammed married Shafi in Kabul, Afghanistan. When she could not have children, he took a second wife, a practice that is not uncommon in Afghani culture.

Shafi and his second wife had seven children.

A controversial British MP barred from entering Canada for a speaking tour earlier this year said Friday he has informed federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney and the heads of two Canadian Jewish groups that he intends to file a libel suit against them.

Canadian journalist might be the only person still shocked that a mother would blow up her own toddler for the cause of Allah

Having spent this morning catching up on my weekend reading, I came across this Page 4 article from Friday’sNew York Times. Here’s the lead paragraph: “BAGHDAD — At least 80 people died and 120 others were injured Thursday in three bombings, one by a female suicide bomber in Baghdad who, Iraqi officials said, held a young child’s hand as she set off her explosives among a group of women and children receiving emergency food aid.”

Even putting aside our baseline revulsion at terrorism, there are three especially hideous things that jump out from this:

1) A mother deliberately taking her (presumed) child with her as she immolates herself. For all the hundreds of suicide bombings that Iraq has already witnessed, this has got to be a first.

2) This was a line for food aid. Islamists have gone from attacking U.S. soldiers, to attacking Iraqi soldiers, to attacking police stations, to attacking the religious ceremonies of rival sects — on down the line of nihilism until, now, they are reduced to blowing up hungry people seeking sustenance.

3) This hideous crime was played on page four of The New York Times. And a quick scan of other media suggests it got similar B-rate treatment elsewhere. This sort of act would have been worth a worldwide banner headline a decade ago. But now, it’s just another demented Islamist senselessly slaughtering fellow Muslims. With her kid. Yawn.

Says a lot about the world we live in, doesn’t it?
