More Than Half of Turks in Austria Want Sharia…

More than half of the approx. 220,000 Turkish immigrants – 2.65% of the 8.3 million people in Austria – want Islamic law introduced into the Austrian legal system.  Asked whether some parts of Islamic law (e.g. marriage, family and inheritance laws) should be incorporated into Austrian law, 50% agreed, 16% said it depended on which elements were incorporated and 22% were against it.  Responses varied by education level and German language skills, but religion was the most decisive factor.  Close to 62% of religious-political Muslims agreed Sharia should be incorporated, compared to 41% of secular Muslims.  In both groups, an additional 16% said it depends on what elements were to be incorporated.

72% says that following religious commandments is more important than democratic ones.  For 57% of the Turks, the laws and regulations of Islam are more important than that of Austria.  And almost half of the Turkish immigrants say that crime in Austria is caused by democracy… Islam in Europe>>

“It is a religious duty dictated by God,” he said during his sermon.

“This order of God cannot be annulled by anyone… not a king, not a president, not ulema (Muslim scholars),” Zendani added.

Yemen’s council of clerics, which includes Zendani, had made a similar call for jihad on Thursday if foreign forces join the fight against AQAP.

“If any party insists on aggression, or invades the country, then according to Islam, jihad becomes obligatory,” said a statement signed by 150 clerics.

Shopping for bikinis with my four sisters in the summer of 1975 brought out the fashion beast in me, an 11-year-old living in exile with his family in Egypt.

“The colour on this brown two-piece makes you look darker,” I tell my sister Raja. She picks a lime-green bikini instead. “I love this one so much, I want to wear it myself,” I blurt out to Ferial, clinching her choice of a black-and-white striped swimsuit.

The fruit of that shopping trip hangs on the office wall of my Toronto apartment – a photograph taken a few days later of myself, my four sisters and three brothers on a beach in Alexandria.

The photo captures a moment of bourgeois life in the Middle East, before the region became associated in the Western collective psyche with exporting terror or the subjugation of women. It’s an image of a large and admittedly privileged family, led by enlightened, secular parents from southern Yemen.

Yemen’s Jewish minority has demanded government protection, or the means to leave the country after a religious extremist killed one of them last Thursday.

The plight of the “protected people” (dhimmi) under Islam:

If dhimmis complained about their inferior status, institutionalized humiliation, or poverty, their masters voided their contract and regarded them as enemies of Islam, fair game as objects of violence. Consequently, dhimmis were generally cowed into silence and worse. It was almost unheard-of to find dhimmis speaking out against their oppressors; to do so would have been suicide. For centuries dhimmi communities in the Islamic world learned to live in peace with their Muslim overlords by acquiescing to their subservience. Some even actively identified with the dominant class, and became strenuous advocates for it.

SAN’A, Yemen — The U.S. and Britain locked up their embassies in Yemen on Sunday after fresh threats from al-Qaida, and the White House expressed alarm at the terror group’s expanded reach in the poor Arab nation where an offshoot apparently ordered the Christmas Day plot against a U.S. airliner.

President Barack Obama’s top counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan, cited “indications al-Qaida is planning to carry out an attack against a target” in the capital, possibly the embassy, and estimated the group had several hundred members in Yemen. Security reasons led Britain to act, too; it was not known when the embassies would reopen.

The U.S. is worried about the spread of terrorism in Yemen, a U.S. ally and aid recipient, Brennan said, but doesn’t consider the country a second front with Afghanistan and Pakistan in the fight against terrorism.

As to whether U.S. troops might be sent to Yemen, Brennan replied: “We’re not talking about that at this point at all.” He pledged to provide the Yemeni government with “the wherewithal” to take down al-Qaida.

“The Yemeni government is friendly to the West but the population is often mistrustful of Western motives and influence.”(What? A few billion dollars in aid jiziya can’t buy their trust? What’s the world coming to?)

“There isn’t a serious fight against Al-Qaeda in Yemen,” one analyst observes, but there is more to the story than economics. There has been a pattern of inaction and bumbling on the part of the Yemeni government concerning jihadists within the country, so much so that one official remarked: “Yemen is like a bus station — we stop some terrorists, and we send others on to fight elsewhere … We appease our partners in the West, but we are not really helping.”

Regarding the failed attempt to assassinate Saudi Counter-Terror Chief, Prince Naif, the bomber hid the explosive device in his butt, but things worked out well in the end. The bomber was a Saudi national who traveled from Marib, Yemen to Saudi Arabia under the guise of surrendering, and no one was killed but the bomber.

Yemen today arrested three random possible al Qaeda in Marib. The governor of Marib, Naji Al-Zayedi, said there had been a significant number of leading members of Al-Qaeda in Marib, headed by Yemeni Nasser Al-Wahishi and large numbers of followers, among them Yemenis, Saudis, Libyans, Moroccans, Egyptians and Algerians, the Saudi Gazette reported. (If Marib is an ungoverned region, what does the governor do all day?) “The tightening of security, however, has forced them to flee to other areas,” Al-Zayedi said.

Justice Yemen-style: Paedophile who raped boy, 11, shot in the head in front of hundreds of spectators

This is criminal justice, Yemen style. A man accused of raping and murdering an 11-year-old boy is paraded through his home town before being shot dead by an executioner. 

Hundreds of onlookers lined the streets to watch the gruesome scene, cheering and shouting abuse at Yehya Hussein al-Raghwah. 

The boy, Hamdi al-Kabas, had reportedly come into his shop for a haircut last December during the Muslim festival of Eid. After brutally attacking him, the barber cut his body into pieces and dumped them outside the capital Sana’a.

He was given the death penalty by a Yemeni court a month later after apparently admitting his crime.

Amran, Yemen – A Yemeni court of appeals on Sunday sentenced a former air force pilot to death for the murder of a Jewish man, court sources said.

The court in the north-western province of Amran convicted Abdul- Aziz al-Abdi, a 40-year-old retired Yemeni Air Force pilot, of premeditated murder.
