Masood Was Leader Of Islamic Center Of New England

BOSTON – A local imam who pleaded guilty to immigration fraud charges faces sentencing in federal court.

 

Muhammad Masood is the former spiritual leader of the Islamic Center of New England’s mosque in Sharon.

 

 

The arrest of Masood and another local imam in November 2006 prompted an outcry from local Muslims who accused the government of charging the men simply because they are Muslim.

* Surely Australian resident Islamist lawyer Yusuf Irfan would come down like a ton of bricks on this criminal, since he is so concerned about immigration fraud.  Ayaan Ali Hirsi seems to bother him especially…

Masood is a citizen of Pakistan and has lived in the United States for about 20 years. He admitted lying to immigration officials after he applied to become a permanent U.S. resident in 2002.

 

Federal prosecutors have agreed to recommend a sentence of three years probation, with no prison time, when Masood is sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court.

Masood’s guilty plea could lead to his deportation.

A Muslim English teacher today pleaded guilty to threatening to blow up the giant Bluewater shopping centre.

Saeed Ghafoor said he was going to bomb Europe’s largest shopping complex using three limousines with gas canister explosives.

 

The Bluewater centre was the target for a gang of terrorists led by Omar Khyam who were jailed for a fertiliser bomb plot last year.

Ghafoor made his threat to prison officers at Haverigg jail in Cumbria in February this year.

He was serving a 12-month sentence imposed by Southampton Crown Court in January for threats to kill his sister and assault.

The court was told he had grabbed her round the throat and also threatened her with a knife.

Police arrest two more people in Exeter bomb blast investigation

Two men sitting outside a cafe with a baby in a pushchair were arrested by armed police today in connection with the Exeter restaurant bombing.

Around seven armed police were seen pointing their guns at the Asian looking men as they sat at a table in a busy high street in Plymouth, the home town of bomb suspect Nicky Reilly.

The woman was about to use an ATM in the main street of Kerikeri, in the far north of the country, when the men whistled, the New Zealand Press Association reported.

She calmly stripped off, then used the cash machine, before getting dressed and walking away.

The woman told police she did not take too kindly to the whistling from the men repairing the road.

“She said she had thought ‘bugger them, I’ll show them what I’ve got’,” Police Sergeant Peter Masters told NZPA.

“She gave the explanation that she had been … pestered by New Zealand men. She’s not an unattractive looking lady,” Masters said.

“She was taken back to the police station and spoken to and told that was inappropriate in New Zealand.”

Brussels: Another school bans headscarf

 

Several petitions have already been started against the management decision, which was made without consultation with the students, teachers and educational staff.

According to the principal of the school, whose students body is 85% students of North African origin, the school attracted more and more students because they allowed the headscarf.  Many students have already announced they will leave the school as a result of the decision.

They have established that he travelled between Plymouth and Exeter by bus before the explosion at the Giraffe restaurant at the Princesshay shopping centre at 12.50pm.

Two bombs were found and Reilly was the only person injured. He suffered “serious facial injuries” although they were not said to be life-threatening.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden: Swedish police arrested two maintenance workers on suspicion of sabotage after they tried to enter a nuclear plant Wednesday with traces of the explosive used in the London terror bombings in 2005, officials said.

Police experts with bomb-sniffing dogs were dispatched to search the Oskarshamn nuclear power station and examine the substance, believed to be triacetone triperoxide, or TATP, which can be extremely dangerous even in tiny amounts.

“It’s not something you use at home,” Anders Osterberg, a spokesman for plant operator OKG, told The Associated Press. “We’re not dealing with toys here.”

One of the Afghans involved in the Stansted hijacking was back in court yesterday  -  accused of ransacking a travel agency. 

During a violent argument with his landlord, Nazamuddin Mohammidy allegedly hurled a metal chair, smashed a computer and fought with staff until police arrived. 

 

Mohammidy denies assault and criminal damage and the trial continues. Last week, he was at the centre of what the Conservatives called a devastating breach of security by being allowed to work at Heathrow. 

His job cleaning BA offices did not give him access to planes but he did have a pass for secure areas. The pass has since been taken from him.

Supporters in tears after terror suspect denied bail

 

Dozens of supporters of Saad Gaya left a Brampton courtroom in tears yesterday after the 20-year-old terrorism suspect was denied bail and sent back to prison to await trial.

Gaya was arrested as part of an alleged “homegrown” terrorism cell that police say was dismantled in June 2006 with the arrest of 14 adults and four youths.

The group plotted to bomb downtown Toronto targets, including the office of Canada’s spy service, as well as a military base north of the city, the allegations state.

I don’t regard the hijab as a harmless expression of religious and cultural diversity. A veiled woman carries regressive connotations.

If we accept it in schools, we open the door to other practices in the Muslim world even more repressive to women, among them arranged marriages and female circumcision.

How can teachers tell girls swathed in scarves they are anyone’s equal? Their male-imposed dress code makes them subordinate before lessons even begin.

It’s unfair and more than a little cowardly to expect individual schools to formulate policies on this. We need clear, strong Department of Education guidelines — ones which forbid the headscarf, and in so doing outlaw apartheid, institutionalised inequality and estrangement between the sexes.

No pupil should be singled out as different.

Haqqani: You just don’t understand: There is no need for special orders anymore. The mujahedeen are just doing what they are responsible for doing. To kill and attack Germans is the goal and that is clear to everyone. The entire chain and network is responsible.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: Who do you take your orders from? From the Taliban’s Peshawar shura or from the Quetta shura?

Haqqani: We are unaware of any shuras located outside of Afghanistan. Every local commander is responsible for his own areas. The area commander is accountable to the district commander who is in turn accountable to the provincial governor. The governor is then accountable to the provincial executive council, which deals with Taliban military shura.
