US Publisher Gets Cold Feet Over 'Romantic Novel'- The Jewel of Medina

* If anything, its a crappy book. Books like that don’t help our cause in any way. But then again, what Random House is doing here is blatant pre-emptive censorship. And more than anything, its shameless cowardice in the face of an implacable enemy.

Given this excerpt from the book, I’m ready to say good riddance:

“The novel, for example, includes a scene on the night when Muhammad consummated his marriage with Aisha: “the pain of consummation soon melted away. Muhammad was so gentle. I hardly felt the scorpion’s sting. To be in his arms, skin to skin, was the bliss I had longed for all my life.”

 

Update to this story. “Random US: no regrets over Islam book,” by Philip Jones, from the Book Seller, August 12:

Random House US has said that it has no regrets about pulling out of publication of Sherry Jones’ Islam-inspired romantic novel, The Jewel of Medina, despite the growing controversy about the decision. The news, which broke in the US last week, has led to widespread criticism, and drawn comparisons with The Satanic Verses and the Danish Mohammed cartoons row. 

But Stuart Applebaum Random House US spokesman told The Bookseller that the publisher had had “no second thoughts“. “It was a difficult decision: one that we have seldom had to take before and one that we hope not to have to take again,” he said. Applebaum said that the decision had been taken by Gina Centrello, president and publisher of the Random House Publishing Group in the US, after several “credible and unrelated sources” warned that it might be offensive to some in the Muslim community, and could incite acts of violence by a small, radical segment.

The Hamayouni Decree and Tax Payment [Al-Jizyath] 

‘Copts want the antiquated 19th Century Hamayouni decree be abolished. It is inconceivable to require that the president of Egypt must approve permits to build a church or even to repair a toilet in a church. Mosques in Egypt are being built with no restrictions.’ US Copts Association.

This quotation represents one of the most striking and controversial demands for the Copts in Egypt, which requires the ratification or even the abolition of the ´defamed´ Hamayouni decree. So what is the Hamayouni decree? Is it an Islamic, Quranic invention, or is it just a creation of man, who could be some times wise and some other times insane?

First of all I would like to explain that law to the ordinary, neutral reader; the Hamayouni decree regulates the building of the non-Muslims religious facilities, which was first passed in February, 1856 by the then Ottoman Emperor, and, surprisingly, it was passed to give more rights to the minorities within the Islamic Ottoman Empire. The law was used for the first time in Egypt, after ´Egyptianizing´ it, in February, 1934, and there were ten, controversial conditions for granting permission to build Christian worship facilities. In fact, the Egyptian version of the law has been a pale version that was highly misunderstood, and some times misinterpreted.

Just another aspect of the perpetually “misunderstood” and “misinterpreted” religion of Islam.

Imagine a book on the U.S. arguing that the Protestant religion had absolutely nothing to do with the nation’s economic successes and failures, its mode of government or its attitude toward sex. That, in essence, is what Pollack writes about Islam and the Middle East. Islam, a religion that claims to infuse every part of human life, turns out to be responsible for nothing according to this book.

* Turns out  Kenneth M. Pollack and his helpmeet wife Andrea Koppel have a nice little scam going, jetting around those palaces and invitations in the ME.

Take a closer look at this Andrea Koppel careering  and it all falls into place: the connected daddy who pushed her cart over the hill ever since she learned how to crawl, good God: she even looks dumb! And then there is the essential socializing with the Kuwait Ambassador and Diane von Furstenberg, (you get the drift) the socialites of the news-circus, and the third world parasites in suites and fancy costumes who so enrich the lives of us all.

Yes, there are reasons why people write crappy books that don’t make sense. Those Arab petro-dollars wouldn’t have a thing to do with it…

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Reuters) – Senior Al Qaeda commander Abu Saeed al-Masri has been killed in recent clashes with Pakistani forces in a Pakistani region near the Afghan border, a security official said on Tuesday. 

“He was believed to be among the top leadership of al Qaeda,” the senior security official said on condition of anonymity.

Pakistan: Zawahiri’s English-speaking debut

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) — In what’s believed to be the first English-language message from al Qaeda’s second in command, Ayman al-Zawahiri criticizes Pakistan’s leadership and calls for Pakistanis to support the jihadist movement. 

The audio message was released by al Qaeda’s production arm, al-Sahab, and initially aired on Pakistan’s ARY channel. CNN could not independently verify its authenticity, and it was unclear when the message was recorded.

“Let there be no doubt in your minds that the dominant political forces at work in Pakistan today are competing to appease and please the modern day crusaders in the White House and are working to destabilize this nuclear-capable nation under the aegis of America,” the message says.

It’s the first official message released by al-Sahab in which al-Zawahiri, a native of Egypt, speaks English, said Ben Venzke, head of IntelCenter, a Washington-based company that monitors and analyzes militant messages.

Those who blame Israel for the perennial impasse in peace negotiations, including the Palestinians themselves, are fond of portraying the desperate plight of the Palestinians under the supposedly oppressive occupation. One would think that a desperate person or a desperate people would seek to improve their lot by any means possible, and would be eager for the chance for peace and freedom. That is evidently not the case for the Palestinians.

Despite their supposed desperation, the Palestinian Arabs are curiously consistent in imposing impossible conditions for peace, conditions that amount to unconditional surrender for Israel. Palestinians and their supporters appear to be unconcerned about the contradiction. One condition that has stood for years is the so called “right of return,” a stipulation which would flood Israel with refugees of the Israeli War of Independence, their descendants, and many who falsely claimed refugee status. This would turn Israel into an Arab country and deny the right of self-determination to the Jewish people. “Right of Return” is dubiously touted as a right anchored in international law. Surely, it cannot take precedence over the right to self determination, which is Jus Cogens (see Palestinian Right of Return in International Law.

CNN Avoids Mentioning Islam in Segment on 'Honor Killings'

* Why do they even bother? Their biggest shareholders are Arabs, their ads are mostly paid for by Arabs, only Al Bebeeceera would have more Arab-Muslim announcers for ‘balance’, and they promote the Haj as if there was no tomorrow. Quite a feat: CNN has pulled off the MSM equivalent of describing a spiral staircase without using one’s hands.  It has managed to produce a segment on “honor killings” and related violence in the UK . . . without using the word “Muslim” or “Islam.” CNN Newsroom anchor Don Lemon introduced the segment this afternoon at 1:37 PM EDT.

DON LEMON: Women forced into marriages, or killed for having the wrong boyfriend.  So-called “honor crimes” are often committed by fathers or brothers when daughters do something that supposedly brings shame on the family.  It’s on the rise in  Britain, and authorities, they are very worried about it.  Our Paula Newton reports.

Brussels Churches: Magnets for Muhammedan Invaders?

* Asylum seekers lie on mattresses inside the Beguinage Church in Brussels May 20, 2008. Asylum seekers, who said they numbered at 240, had occupied the church and had been on a hunger strike for about two weeks after the Belgian government rejected hundreds of asylum requests.

Brussels: Illegals evacuated from church

The mostly Afghani illegals had occupied the church this past week.  Alliet says that he usually agrees to such actions if they’re prepared in advance, which wasn’t the case here.

Alliet says he also feared that with the lack of toilets neighbors would put films on YouTube of the illegals using the church as a bathroom, as well as the resulting fights due to lack of mattresses and sleeping places.
