“I am telling myself that my future is maybe not here,” she said in an interview at a fast food restaurant in Paris in September. “If I cannot be accepted as I am, I will leave. …  I will simply return to my parents’ homeland: Morocco.”

This just arrived in my inbox and I thought I'll forward this snapshot from France to you. 'Allocations Familiales' means 'Family Allowance' - paid by the French Government. A rather generous amount per child. The more children you have, the better off you are. Perfect for our high birth-rate citizens as you can see. Coming to America? Or are they already in line?

Paris Opera lays down rules over Muslim veils – The Local

The management at Paris Opera have issued a memo to staff not to allow entry to anyone whose face is covered. It comes after a Muslim woman was asked to leave a performance of La Traviata earlier this month after she was spotted wearing a niqab face veil.

A memo to staff, that was seen by Le Monde newspaper, instructs them that entry should be denied to anyone whose face is hidden by “a veil, a mask or a hood”.

…people have asked us:

2. Do you take showers with your hijab on?
3. Can you smile while wearing hijab?
4. Are you Arab, because of that hijab?
5. Are you covering your bald head with your hijab?
6. Can you hear me when I’m talking?

We wondered, “Why is the place we grew up in so discriminatory against foreigners and especially against Muslim women wearing hijab?” More and more native Finnish people convert to Islam and wear the hijab….

Most of Finland’s MEPs for 2014-2019 are positive about the European Union and would not change any key policies. For example, more than three quarters said that Finnish membership in the EU is a good thing.

Religious coercion threatens Tunisian women

A number of Tunisian women feel forced to adopt religious practices in attire and behaviour. Experts, however, question the legality and Islamic authenticity of the phenomena.

By Jamel Arfaoui for Magharebia in Tunis – 07/01/11 (thanks to the RoP)

  • Fitzgerald: Tunisia and the Monitoring of Islam: Tunisian police are stopping women on the streets and asking them to take off their headscarves and to sign a pledge that they will not wear a scarf again. A 1981 Tunisian law prohibits Islamic attire in schools or government offices.

[Jamel Arfaoui] “The case with the veil in Tunisia is a matter of fashion and is the result of influence from certain groups; it’s the herd mentality,” writer Rach Tounsi says.

Rima, a student, breathed a sigh of relief when her mother allowed her to remove the hijab.

“I’ve been waiting for this day for six months,” she says, adding that the experience felt like “long decades”. “My mother forced me to abandon what she considered to be indecent clothes when I returned home at a late hour after attending a friend’s birthday party.”

Like many other Tunisian girls and married women, she was made to obey her family, while facing alienation at school.

“I’ve lived through difficult times at my college. I may be wrong about it, but I felt that my male and female colleagues’ looks were tearing me apart. This made me avoid going to the college for several days, and I could have failed that year if it hadn’t been for the assistance of a female colleague,” she adds.

Even though freedom of conscience is enshrined in Article 5 of the Tunisian constitution, which “protects the free exercise of beliefs with reservation that they do not disturb the public order”, a growing number of women experience coercion in religious practices.

Rabiaa, in her 30s, is one of them. She admits to wearing Islamic garments out of fear of her husband’s violence.

“He threatened to divorce me and to prevent me from seeing my kids if I insisted on my rejection of the veil and cloak,” she tells Magharebia.

Niqab "forbidden?" Not. What does the Koran really say about the veil?

Egyptian Minister of Religious Endowment Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzouq: Wearing the Niqab Is Forbidden in Islam

Not so.  My Koran from the ‘King Fahd Academy’ must not be doubted. And besides, the Saudis call the shots:

Surah 33. AlAhzab,  59 O prophet! Tell your wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their cloaks  (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except eyes or one eye to see the way) that will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed.  And Allah is oft-forgiving, most merciful.

Following are excerpts from an interview with Egyptian Minister of Religious Endowment Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzouq, which aired on Al-Hayat 2 TV on November 8, 2010:

Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzouq: Wearing the niqab is completely forbidden in Islam.

Interviewer: It is forbidden.

Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzouq: Yes.

Interviewer: So not only is it not a duty – it is even forbidden?

Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzouq: It is not a duty, not part of the Sunna, and not recommended or anything.

There is another thing – the niqab prevents interpersonal communication. Islam strives to benefit society, and the spreading of the niqab is not in the best interest of society. The niqab is used to commit crimes. This has happened is several Islamic countries. In Somalia, for example, two veiled women blew themselves up in a large mosque, killing more than 50 people. Interpersonal communication is impossible unless people’s faces are visible. If I talk to somebody, I want to see how my words affect this person – whether what I say is accepted or causes anger, and so on. The niqab prevents us from communicating with one another.

Interviewer: What is your view on girls who are made to wear the hijab? In Egypt, it is very common these days to make 3-4 year old girls wear the hijab, and if you ask their parents, they say it is in order to get her used to the hijab.

Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzouq: First of all, this is not required by Islam. Let me tell you a story. The late Sheik Tantawi once told me that he went to inaugurate an Al-Azhar elementary school for girls, in Burj Al-Arab, I think. He told me that he was astounded to see all the girls there wearing the hijab. They were only six years old. So he asked: Why do you force them to wear the hijab? He was told that their parents insist upon it. This is a serious mistake, because a girl of this age wants to experience her childhood and play with her peers. Why would we deprive her of this? This hinders her development and her education. It is totally unnecessary.

Obama is Receiving One-Dimensional Advice on Islam

“The report that Dalia Mogahed has been appointed to the Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, which advises U.S. President Barack Obama, filled me with anxiety… To be honest, I was anxious for two reasons.

“First, [when] someone who grew up in a Western environment decides to don the hijab, it is usually [a sign that they are] influenced by a religious ideology [even] more conservative than the one prevailing in the Arab countries…

“The second reason was the enthusiasm shown by the media outlets funded by the Arab Saudi kingdom, as well as the message of congratulations issued by a [certain] Muslim-American organization known for its affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood. The numerous voices welcoming the appointment puzzled me, and scared me.

Frere Tariq still welcome in Oxford

Dutch National News

Tariq Ramadan, the Islamic scholar pseudo intellectual sacked by Rotterdam city council and Erasmus University, will take up the job of professor of contemporary Islam studies at Oxford University in Britain from September 1, the Telegraaf reports.

Debate between Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Tariq Ramadan – Part 1 of 3

Ramadan was fired because of his refusal to stop working for an Iranian-backed tv channel. The city and university said this could not be combined with his other roles as academic and advisor on integration.

Ramadan has been attached to Oxford as a researcher and lecturer for the past four years.
‘Freedom of expression is a fundamental right which will be respected,’ a spokesman for the British university told the paper. (Ramadan is an enemy agent. Islam-propaganda cannot be explained away as  ‘freedom of expression’ by a bunch of wakademic f*kcwits who never tell the truth about Islam (let alone printing Muhammad cartoons) What they are doing is an insult to anyones intelligence./ed)

Ramadan’s professorship is funded by the Qatar foundation for education, the Telegraaf says.
