With perfect timing, it emerges today that one of Britain’s most notorious hate preachers, Abu Izzadeen, has been released barely a year after he was jailed for four and a half years for inciting terrorism and terror fundraising.

Izzadeen (who sounds a lot less scary when you know he is really called Trevor Brooks) found notoriety in 2006 for heckling John Reid when the then-Home Secretary visited a London mosque. Read it all>>

Yusuf Discovers Oppression

Yusuf speaketh:

“Taliban leaders have transformed Islamic sacred jurisprudence into an instrument of oppression.”

* Gee, did you figure that all out by yourself, Yusuf? Isn’t that what the jiziyah is, an instrument of oppression?  How else would you explain that minorities in Islamic countries have been all but wiped out? Have you never heard of the Armenian genocide in Turkey or the plight of the Copts in Egypt? What happened to the Christians and Hindus of Pakistan who made up some 30% of the population 60 years ago and are now reduced to a tiny percentage, who are forced to live in abject poverty, in slave-like conditions, with no rights at all?

Is this the “sacred jurisprudence” you’re talking about?

Muslim (19:4294) - “When you meet your enemies who are polytheists, invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them … If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah’s help and fight them”

Sharia advocate  Irfan is  trying to put a bit of lipstick on Taliban activities back in Pakiland, where these “students of Islam”  are rapidly  moving on Islamabad. By the looks of it, its only a matter of weeks or months before the corrupt Zardari clan is ousted and the believers impose Allah’s law, with nukes.

But not to worry, Yusuf is onto it:

“Perhaps the ultimate measure of a nation’s civility is in how it treats its minorities. Pakistan must act to stop attacks on its Sikh and other minorities.”

I won’t be holding my breath. Islam is what Muslims (must) do, which means   “Islamic sacred law”, the sharia, must reign supreme. Obviously you have no problem with that, Yusuf.  For you, the Sikhs are just collateral damage. Your smears on India are gratuitous, you’re just doing your job.

But whatever you do, Yusuf: have a nice day and don’t forget to flush!

Firefighters tackle a blazing car during anti-Jewish violence in January

  • Saturday night in spring 2009, in a quiet corner of the Marais. Sounds of tumult and smashing. A pause. An ominous silence. Then, the first explosion. Gunshots? Gas? It’s on the rue des Arquebusiers. A fire engine pulls up, the firefighters jump out, ready for action. They’re stymied. They run in circles, shouting to each other like helpless civilians. Cars are burning in the narrow side street and they can’t get near the roaring inferno. Seven cars in a row, popping like huge champagne corks. It takes an eternity before a bigger engine arrives. It has a huge hose but it’s hours before the last flames are extinguished. 
  • Torched cars are a familiar sight on the French landscape. Tens of thousands are burnt out every year. But this isn’t video footage on the evening news. It’s not the banlieue in 2005. It’s very close and extremely scary.

In 2006, I had a debate with Tariq Ramadan, the author of Western Muslims and the future of Islam. In the hypothetical event of a war between Egypt and Switzerland, for which community would he be prepared to die, I asked him.Mr Ramadan has dual citizenship. He’s an Egyptian by birth and a Swiss by naturalisation. His response was one of rage on different levels. Above all I think he was outraged that one should ask such a question. He refused to answer.

Mr Ramadan, like many other Muslims, may have two or more citizenships. From all that he expresses both in person and on paper, it is clear that his loyalty, above all, is to Islam. I do not doubt that he would die for Islam, like most Muslims, and that’s his prerogative. But what European countries have done is give citizenship to individuals who feel no obligation to share in their societies for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer and in the event of a catastrophe, sacrifice themselves.

No debate is more explosive than the debate on the future of Islam in Europe

In this way, they evade one of the chief criteria of citizenship. Political allegiance to the constitution of your country is the minimum requirement. It is this state of affairs that makes Christopher Caldwell’s bookReflections on the Revolution in Europe: Immigration and the West (Allen Lane, £17.99), which opens with the sentence, “Western Europe became a multi-ethnic society in a fit of absence of mind,” a chilling read.

Obama plans to destroy Israel?

Sultan Knish lays out what he says is the Obama administration’s plan to destroy Israel. Unfortunately, it is all too plausible (Hat Tip: Doris M).

Obama’s people have studied the problem and understand where Carter went wrong. Obama does not want to have the same image problems as Carter in the Jewish community. Should that happen, the Beloved Leader and his lapdog press are fully prepared to unleash a Chavez style hate-on targeting American Jews. But that would be inconvenient and messy. Even with the changing face of America, there are significant differences between the average American and European or Venezuelan, and what kind of ugliness they are willing to tolerate. So Obama’s people have split their attention in handling the two factors as two different problems.
