IRAN’s former president, Mohammad Khatami, has rejected claims that the Islamic republic is secretly developing nuclear weapons.

Speaking in Melbourne yesterday, Dr Khatami said neighbouring countries with atomic arsenal pose a far greater threat to Middle East stability.

“If there is a real concern about proliferation, we have to tackle the problem of these countries right now having nuclear arms in the region, not putting pressure on a country that doesn’t have such intention and there is no strategy of having nuclear weapons,” he said.

Dr Khatami did not name countries, however Israel is the only Middle Eastern country said to posses nuclear weapons — a program Tel Aviv has never officially acknowledged.

Iran’s South Asian neighbour, Pakistan, has also developed a nuclear program.

In an interview with The Age, Dr Khatami also dismissed as “baseless” claims that Iran is a supporter of terrorism.

And so now we are engaged in a great “Overseas Contingency Operation”, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. And be assured: if the Overseas Contingency Operatives succeed in pulling off another Contingency Operation on American soil on the scale of 9/11, or more than one, we will indeed be sorely tested — and utterly unprepared to meet the multifaceted cultural, military, political, and spiritual challenge the enemy presents.

The United Nations saw something in Richard Falk that made it appoint him its expert on the Palestinian territories. Here’s a clue, from an article he wrote last November:
GIVEN the dark cloud of doubt that lingers over the official 9/11 narrative, why was the issue not even discussed during the many months of presidential campaigning? As far as I can tell, the real explanation is a widely shared fear of what sinister forces might lay beneath the unturned stones of a full investigation of 9/11. Ever since the assassinations in the 1960s of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King and Malcolm X, there has been waged a powerful campaign against conspiracy theory that has made anyone who dares question the official story to be branded as a kook or some kind of unhinged troublemaker. The persisting inability to resolve this controversy about 9/11 subtly taints the legitimacy of the American government. It can only be removed by a willingness, however belated, to reconstruct the truth of that day, and to reveal the story behind its prolonged suppression.

“Infandous” alley-rat George Galloway, recently seen smearing Geert Wilders and congratulating his misguided government to keep him out of England, is furious over Canada’s refusing him entry. But what’s good for the goose is good for the gander: George Galloways own words “Freedom of speech is not an absolute and the dutch Mp Wilders is a racist hater of moslims, hater of Islam and he shouldn’t be allowed into our country”..so why shouldn’t the same apply to Galloway?

George Galloway, the pro-terrorist MP from the United Kingdom, has been denied entry to Canada on security grounds. I suspect it has to do with his track record of providing financial assistance to terrorist groups like Hamas, which is listed as a criminal organization in Canada. It would not surprise me if CSIS determined that Galloway’s visit would have had fundraising or recruiting spin-offs for Hamas or other terrorist groups. I’m sure Galloway himself would boast of those activities. (UPDATE: I am advised that, in fact, his planned speaking engagement at a Toronto church was to raise funds for Hamas.)

The cabinet minister in charge of immigration, Jason Kenney, could exercise his ministerial discretion and override his officials, but given Kenney’s zero-tolerance policy towards anti-Semitism, that’s a non-starter.

This case is an interesting intersection between free speech and national sovereignty and security.

Galloway is not a Canadian citizen; he does not have a right to come to Canada (nor any other rights guaranteed to our citizens). He would be a guest, and he is being turned away for security reasons.

Were he a citizen, he would have the right to spout his bigotry in Canada (but not to engage in material support for terrorists, which is a crime.) If he were a citizen, he would be allowed back home, and arrested for his crimes.

I don’t see this as a free speech issue; I see it as a sovereignty issue — keeping out an undesirable foreigner who has no right to be here, and who boasts about violating our criminal code.

So says former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. And he makes it all very simple and Manichaean: there are “two elements in Islam: one wanted to work with the West; the other did not.” We just have to work with the one that wants to work with the West.

Of course! Why didn’t anyone think of that before?

Anything in his talk about why the “extremists” are so popular, or is that assumed to be a simple matter of policy and reaction to Western foreign policy? Did Blair even get close to mentioning the fact that there is a traditional, deeply rooted idea in Islamic texts and teachings, that Muslims must wage war against and subjugate unbelievers — regardless of what those unbelievers have done or not done? I am sure that he didn’t, despite its relevance to his point.

But until analysts grapple with that fact, nothing is more certain than that the global jihad will continue, no matter which smiling moderate is feted in Western capitals today.

MANILA, Philippines – Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, in Manila for a series of leadership conferences, used an open forum at the Ateneo de Manila University to make what he called “a larger point” about the turmoil in the Middle East.
“There is essentially one battle going on, and it is a battle about Islam.”…

He told a sympathetic audience that the “larger point” was the right framework with which to understand the pivotal, conflict-ridden region.

Blair said there were two elements in Islam: one wanted to work with the West; the other did not.

The right approach to peace and development in the Middle East, then, would be to “partner with the modernizing and moderate element,” he said.

He made his remarks in answer to a question about how he made major decisions, such as joining the US-led Coalition of the Willing in invading Iraq.

He answered the Iraq question first, and then broadened his view to include the titanic struggle for the future of Islam.

Referring to the moderates doing battle with extremists, he said: “We gotta make sure those guys win.”
Comment:
Blair is definitely confused. Sure, lots of Muslims would like to “work with” the West. The issue is what they want, and it is clear from polls that most Muslims want the economic and technological advantages that may come from dealing with the West, but most of them don’t want to be influenced by Western values, and most of them want strict sharia.

Note, from the figures cited below, that across those four major Muslim countries, an overall simple average of only 9% of people “disagree strongly” with the goal to require a strict application of sharia law. Some of this 9% is probably composed of non-Muslims (especially in the Indonesian sample; see D4). If we take a moderate Muslim to be someone who disagrees strongly with sharia law, then, overall, less than about 9% of Muslims fit that category. The figures below regarding attitudes toward Western values also put into perspective Blair’s statements about “two elements” in Islam. Obviously, the “element” or subset of Muslims that is positive in its attitudes toward Western values is very small (see section “f” below).

Former New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark has been appointed the head of the United Nations Development Program.

Highly-placed sources have told the Trans-Tasman political newsletter that UN Secretary-General Ban Ky-Moon will confirm the appointment within the next few hours.

The post, to be taken up in August, is the third most senior UN role and would involve overseeing a $US5 billion ($7.5 billion) budget, which is mostly spent on programs in Africa.

Clark was Labour prime minister from 1999 until 2008 when she lost an election to the conservative National Party.

The new government has strongly supported Clark’s nomination for the job, with prime minister John Key lobbying other leaders to offer assistance.

Either way, the Muslims win: if they succeed, they use the position as a platform to push Islam on the infidels. If rejected, like in this case, they bring a lawsuit against the school because of “discrimination and prejudice.” All at taxpayers expense.

Principal Reynald Tibben said Mrs Dahlal – who wears a head scarf and is a devout Muslim – may have found it difficult to work at a school where the teachers’ morning staff briefing includes prayer devotion and Bible reading.

Pope was not greeted by Australian Aboriginals, because Church and Australian Establishment were responsibelo for much of the abuse experienced by them. They were being deprived of their culture,faith and languages. They were being forced to convert.

Muslim community of Australia must learn lesson form Aboriginals, otherwise, their future generations would be lost in the jungle of Australia. They must demand state funded Muslim schools with their bilingual Muslim teachers as role models. There is no place for a non-Muslim teacher or a child in a Muslim school.

Bilingual muslim children need to learn standard English to follow the National Curriculum and go for higher studies and research to serve humanity. They need to learn Arabic to recite and understand the Holy Quran. They need to learn Urdu and other community languages to keep in touch with their cultural roots and enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry.

A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny global village. He/she does not want to become monolingual Australian.
