A few weeks ago the Church said attacks against it were a form of Anti-Semitisim. Now a Bishop said it is “the Zionist”  who are to blame. Will they make up their mind?

The bishop also accused the Jews of stirring up anger in the current case of church pedophilia. After his words caused a storm, Babini immediately issued a denial.

(Times Online) A retired Italian bishop has provoked fury by reportedly suggesting that “Zionists” are behind the current storm of accusations over clerical sex abuse shaking the Vatican and the Catholic Church.

Monsignor Giacomo Babini, the Bishop Emeritus of Grossetto, was quoted by the Italian Roman Catholic website Pontifex as saying he believed a “Zionist attack” was behind the criticism of the Pope, given that it was “powerful and refined” in nature.

Bishop Babini denied he had made any anti-Semitic remarks. He was backed by the Italian Bishops Conference (CEI), which issued a declaration by Bishop Babini in which he said: “Statements I have never made about our Jewish brothers have been attributed to me.”

However, Bruno Volpe, who interviewed Monsignor Babini for Pontifex, confirmed that the bishop had made the statement, which was reported widely in the Italian press today. Pontifex threatened to release the audio tape of the interview as proof. […]

[…] Bishop Babini, 81, said Jews “do not want the Church, they are its natural enemies”. He added: “Deep down, historically speaking, the Jews are deicides [God killers].”

He was quoted as saying that Hitler was “not just mad” but had exploited German anger over the excesses of German Jews who in the 1930s had throttled the German economy.

Man stabbed to death during integration class

A 46-year-old Iraqi asylum seeker was stabbed to death by a fellow student at during an integration class at a school in Goor, in Twente, on Monday morning.

According to eye witnesses, a 23-year-old Somali man attacked the Iraqi with a knife, after shouting ‘you killed my family’ at him, the Telegraaf reported.

The incident took place at an ROC school where many adults attend courses.

The arrest of three Italian aid workers for alleged complicity in a plot to kill the British-backed Governor of Helmand province is a bizarre development but not one without a certain amount of history to it.

The Emergency hospital in Helmand is the best source of medical care in Helmand, outside the military field hospitals run by the British and Americans.

The hospital’s moral commitment to care for all those in need means that a sizeable proportion of those treated for battle injuries are suspected of being Taleban fighters. They invariably describe themselves as civilians caught in crossfire.

This has long been a source of irritation and suspicion for the Afghan Government.

However, in 2007 darker accusations were made by the Government, which accused employees of the Emergency hospital of a role in the kidnap of an Italian journalist, Daniel Mastrogiacomo, and two Afghan colleagues by the Taleban.

The Italian was freed after the release of a number of Taleban prisoners. The Afghans were beheaded.

Afghan officials say that Italian government pressure stopped further investigation of the hospital’s alleged role in the kidnap. As one senior government official said in Kabul yesterday: “There has been suspicion for some time of Emergency.”

The Italian Government has so far been guarded in its responses to the allegations, while British officials have confirmed that their forces were called to make safe weapons and explosives allegedly found by Afghan security services at the hospital.

If proved, claims that Italian aid workers helped to facilitate a Taleban assassination plot would cause huge embarrassment to the Italian Government and provoke outrage among the wider aid community in Afghanistan.

The Italian-run charity insists that the allegations are a fiction. As so often in Afghanistan, the truth is at present obscure.

Badawi, by the way, is another unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation Hamas jihad terror funding case.

I’ve got a better idea for Mary Sanchez and MPAC: if they really want to “unravel” Americans’ “misperceptions” of Islam, here is an easy way they can do it without going to all the time, trouble and expense of finding and hiring a slick PR man:

1. Focus their indignation on Muslims committing violent acts in the name of Islam, not on non-Muslims reporting on those acts.
2. Renounce definitively not just “terrorism,” but any intention to replace the U.S. Constitution (or the constitutions of any non-Muslim state) with Sharia even by peaceful means. In line with this, clarify what is meant by their condemnations of the killing of innocent people by stating unequivocally that American and Israeli civilians are innocent people.
3. Teach Muslims the imperative of coexisting peacefully as equals with non-Muslims on an indefinite basis.
4. Begin comprehensive international programs in mosques all over the world to teach against the ideas of violent jihad and Islamic supremacism.
5. Actively work with Western law enforcement officials to identify and apprehend jihadists within Western Muslim communities.

If Muslims do those five things, voila! “Misperceptions” of Islam will no longer hold sway among Americans. And “outright bigotry”? Forget it! It will be about as common as outright anti-Buddhist bigotry!
