Teenage Iranian faces execution over withdrawn sodomy ‘confession’ (TROP)

A 19-year-old Iranian man is facing execution on charges of attempted sodomy – even though the allegation was withdrawn by the accuser, according to reports.

“It is unIslamic to sentence a person to death simply because they are alleged to be homosexual, especially without 100 per cent proof of guilt,” said Paul Salahuddin Armstrong, Co-Director of the Association of British Muslims.  (Source)

In country Bendigo, a case I believe will have a dramatic impact on local views on various social matters:

SEVEN males have been charged with the gang rape of a woman in Bendigo.
Police allege the men unlawfully imprisoned and repeatedly raped the woman at a residence in Flora Hill early on Sunday.

Four of the men, Mohammad Zaoli, 21, Mohammed Elnour, 18, Aru Gar, 19, and Akoak Manon, 18, appeared via video link in the Bendigo Magistrates Court yesterday. They each face 17 charges, including 14 of rape. The other three accused are aged 14, 16 and 17 and cannot be named. They appeared in a children’s court on the same 17 charges.

The men must be presumed innocent.

An Indonesian housemaid was killed when she plunged down from the fourth floor after she tried to flee her employer’s house, a local daily said Sunday.  The maid tied blankets together and dangled them from the window of her bedroom in her employer’s apartment in Kuwait City, Alqabas said.

“As she started to climb down, she lost balance and fell down…she was taken to hospital with internal head bleeding and body fractures but she died later.”

The paper did not identify the maid or say why she was trying to flee.

Sumiati Binti Salan Mustapa, 23, “showed the judge her injuries, especially her head,” said Diddi Wahyudi, an Indonesian consular official in Jeddah.

The Saudi woman was arrested after allegedly beating Sumiati so severely as to break bones and cause internal bleeding, putting a hot iron to her head and stabbing and slashing her with scissors.

The Australian Embassy in Jakarta is calling for applications for the 2011 Australia-Indonesia Exchange Program for young Muslim leaders, a press release said Monday. The deadline for application is Jan. 31, 2011.

“High-calibre, young Muslim leaders are encouraged to apply for this prestigious bilateral interfaith program and become international ambassadors for Indonesian Islam,” the release said of the program.

Turkish Premier Rejects Terminology Associating Islam with Terrorism

Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan has rebuked coining the term “Islamic terrorist organization” for Muslim groups that commit acts of terrorism.

“On every international occasion we have expressed our rejection of the term ‘Islamic terror organization.’ Bringing together the words of ‘Islam’ and of ‘terrorism’ is the biggest injustice that can be made to Islam. We are aware that a global campaign is underway against Muslims and we know who is behind that campaign,” Erdogan on Monday told a ceremony in the Kuwaiti capital where he was presented with the Outstanding Personality in the Islamic World Award of the Sheikh Fahad al-Ahmad International Award for Charity.

Erdogan said the anti-Muslim campaign in the West gained momentum particularly through the news media, saying “an insidious enmity” had been promoted.

“Is it possible to associate a religion with an inherent peaceful cause to terrorism? Those who kill in the name of Islam is gravely misguided and they stray from the religion itself,” Erdogan said.

Erdogan said Turkey exerted sincere efforts to eliminate prejudices against Islam, however adding that Muslims should also do self-criticism.
