Vienna – Austrian rightist Joerg Haider on Tuesday demanded measures against creeping Islamization of the country, including bans of headscarves and the construction of mosques. “We must not tolerate any longer that radical Islamists mock the rule of law in our country and ignore our values and dominant culture,” said Haider, who led the right-wing Freedom Party (FP) to become Austria’s second strongest party and now is governor of the southern Austrian province Carinthia.
Haider demanded that immigrants must adapt to the “Leitkultur,” a term which translates as dominant, or defining culture.
“Those who live here, have to adapt to our dominant culture and accept the rule of law. Who cannot or does not want to do this, has no place here,” Austria’s formerly dominating right-wing figure said in a press release.
Following the refusal of a female defendant in an Islamist terrorism trial to remove her burka as required by Austrian law, Haider suggested a headscarf-ban “following the Dutch example.”
The Netherlands’ general ban on cloaking was an example worth following, Haider said, as it was a way to ban wearing Muslim headscarves or burkas in accordance with the Dutch constitution, Haider said.
The former FP-leader and founder of a Alliance for Austria’s Future, a rivalling rightist party, also suggested extending a ban on the construction of mosques, introduced in the southern province of Carinthia last month, to all of Austria.

Switzerland’s Federal Court has overturned two decisions by local assemblies to refuse citizenship on the grounds of women wearing a religious veil.

Muslim organisations welcomed the rulings, which were announced on Wednesday, as a “step forward”. Naturalisation procedures have been a controversial issue over the past few years.

Under the Swiss federal system, communities also have a say on naturalisation issues.

The court ruling came after two local assemblies in canton Aargau, in northern Switzerland, rejected applications for Swiss citizenship by a Turkish woman and a Bosnian couple last year.

Objectors said the veil was a sign of inequality between men and women and was therefore unconstitutional.

But Switzerland’s highest court found that wearing a veil was an expression of religious beliefs, which are protected under the Swiss constitution. The veil in itself was not a sign of the debasement of women, the judges wrote.

The court urged citizens to look beyond their prejudices and said the fact that a Muslim woman wore a veil did not mean she was flouting the basic values of Swiss society.

Hisham Maizar, president of the Federation of Islamic Organisations in Switzerland, agreed with the court’s ruling.

Muqtada Al-Sadr Comatose In Iranian Hospital

Shi’ite cleric and leader Muqtada Al-Sadr was secretly transferred a few days ago from Iraq to Iran for hospitalization as he was comatose.

It was reported that his illness resulted from food poisoning.

Al-Sadr is being treated by Iranian specialists, as well as by Russian doctors brought in to help the Iranian medical staff treat him.

The Swiss based Islamist Tariq Ramadan has been invited by Griffith University to be the main speaker at its “The Challenges and Opportunities of Islam in the West” (3-5 March, 2008).
I was able to get into the congress and hear Ramadan’s speech. It was booked out, but they placed chairs along the walls for more people to hear the messiah of Islamic world domination.

The audience – about 180 people, mostly Muslims, the dignitaries and only a few non-Muslim citizens.

Laurie Ferguson, the government official, told the audience that Ramadan was approached by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship because of his work in the area of Islamic integration into Western societies. A National Action Plan was established by the Howard Government after the 2005 London bombings to help integrate Muslims into Australian Society. They obviously were so scared of possible terror acts that they desperately tried to find help and naturally, who could help better than a man like Ramadan?

BRUSSELS — Dutch anti-Koran film “Fitna” seems unlikely to air on domestic TV, with broadcasters lining up to say they will not take it. None are ready to accept demands by Geert Wilders, the politician behind the 15-minute film, that it should air complete and unedited.
The latest rejections were reported Thursday in Dutch daily De Volkskrant. The Netwerk and Nova news programs, on pubcaster Nederland 2, have both been talking to Wilders but now say his demands are “bizarre” and unacceptable.

Commercial broadcasters SBS and RTL are also reported to have rejected the film.

If no broadcaster picks up “Fitna” this month, Wilders has been told he can screen the film for journalists only on March 28 at the Dutch press center in The Hague.

This makes it the second Islamist organization that has apologized to me, and the second one to do so under threat of a law suit. I detailed the prior one in 2005 at “[The Canadian Islamic Congress:] An Islamist Apology,” when the CIC took back its calumnies against me, covered my legal expenses, and made a donation in my honor to charity.

So far as I know, these two apologies are without parallel. I hope they become part of a trend, whereby parties that spread false information wrongfully discrediting anti-Islamist writers and activists must publicly retract their libelous statements.

Also, they make up a part of the Legal Project’s effort to protect anti-Islamist writers and activists so that we can continue our work pointing out the dangers of radical Islam. As today’s news implies, the Project’s work must at times go on the offensive to be effective. (March 3, 2008)

Muslim extremists should be banned from handing out literature and prevented from sitting on public bodies, David Cameron has said.

The Conservative leader has also accused ministers and councils of allowing fanatics to benefit from public grants to Muslim bodies.

“The Government has allowed hundreds of thousands of pounds to local authorities to improve community cohesion, but there are worrying signs that ministers have taken their eye off the ball,” he said.

“I will be making proposals to isolate extremists and make certain they cannot obtain public grants or get invited to sit on public bodies.

“That won’t just apply to Islamic extremists. We will be equally vigilant in ensuring that groups linked to the BNP or animal rights militants are excluded too.

Police stop Islamic work Destruction on Temple Mt.

Police on Tuesday stopped Wakf Muslim trust officials from performing unauthorized construction work on the Temple Mount.

Officers blocked workers from continuing unauthorized “surfacing word,” said Jerusalem police chief Cmdr. Aharon Franco. “It is our duty to ensure that the status quo is maintained on the Temple Mount.”

He said Wakf officials had planned to carry out the work as a result of the tensions in east Jerusalem over the recent violence in the Gaza Strip and that the unusual police intervention sparked opposition on the holy site.

According to decades-old regulations, Israel maintains overall security control at the site, while the Wakf is charged with day-to-day administration.

Independent Israeli archeologists have long charged Islamic officials with destruction of antiquities at the site and blamed the government and the Antiquities Authority for turning a blind eye due to the political sensitivities involved.

Remember this the next time you hear about Israelis killing civilians. The jihadists operate in civilian areas in order to draw retaliatory fire they can use to score propaganda points. And the mainstream media remains either clueless or complicit.

Hooded gunmen attack Paris police

PARIS, France (AP) — France’s interior minister says hooded attackers have opened fire on police officers and wounded four.

Michele Alliot-Marie says that about 30 people, some of them armed, ambushed the officers Sunday in the southern Paris suburb of Grigny.

She says the officers were responding to a call about an act of vandalism on a local bakery.

The minister’s office says that three of the officers were hit in face with buckshot while another was hit in the leg and hospitalized.

Alliot-Marie says efforts are under way Monday to identify and apprehend those involved in the ambush.
