Remember when, during the Gaza pullout, former World Bank President James Wolfenson, Mortimer Zuckerman and others raised $14 million to buy the Gaza greenhouses and give them to the Palestinians? At that time the New York Times reported that his call for money was received enthusiastically by the American Jewish community: “Within 48 hours, Mr. Zuckerman said, he had his $14 million. And the Palestinians had a shot at inheriting relatively intact the greenhouses whose vegetables and flowers have been a major source of Israeli export income, and, not incidentally, about 3,500 desperately needed Palestinian jobs.”

They “had a shot.” And what did they do with that shot? Palestinian jihadists destroyed some of the greenhouses. They looted others. They used some for smuggling tunnels.

But the unemployment rate in Gaza? Israel’s fault, of course!

(IsraelNN.com) Unemployment in the Gaza region stands at 45 percent, the highest in the world, according to a report issued by the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration. It noted that nearly all of Gaza’s factories have shut down in the past several years. The unemployment rate in Judea and Samaria was estimated at 25 percent.The report blamed Israel’s closure of the Gaza crossings and restrictions of fuel as causes for the disastrous state of the economy. It did not note that the Gaza economy was flourishing before the Oslo War broke out almost eight years ago.

The reality, however, is quite another one: child abuse in Islamic countries is rampant, out of control. The fact that sex with children is also condoned in the Koran and the hadith doesn’t make it any more acceptable. But when Muslims bring their depravity to the West, they must be subjected to the same laws that apply to all of us.

 

Janitor charged in sex attack of boy, 13, at mosque

The live-in janitor at a Selden mosque sexually attacked a 13-year-old boy inside the place of worship, police said Thursday.

Suffolk County Police learned of the April assault last month after the boy confided in “someone close to him” while on a trip away from Long Island, said Detective Sgt. Michael Fitzharris.

“The assailant was a fairly large man who basically took this young boy by the hand and forced him into a private room, where he subjected him to sexual contact,” Fitzharris said.

“The boy was at the mosque for some type of instructional classes,” said Fitzharris.

Cops charged Niamatullah Ibrahim, 53, with first-degree sexual abuse and third-degree aggravated sexual abuse following a one-month investigation.

Suicide bombings target Shi’ite pilgrims in Iraq

Three women bombers blew themselves up on Monday in a crowd of Shiite pilgrims in Baghdad, one of a string of attacks in Iraq that killed at least 51 people, undermining hopes of a drop in violence.

Scores of people were also wounded in the attacks, which follow a relative lull in the sectarian violence that has ravaged the country since February 2006, when insurgents blew up a Shiite mosque in the central city of Samarra.

The triple attack in Baghdad killed at least 25 pilgrims as they headed to a holy shrine for a major religious ceremony on the Shiite Muslim calendar that has been marred by bloodshed in the past, security officials said.

Another 22 people were killed in a suicide bombing during a protest rally in the northern oil city of Kirkuk, and gunfire in a panicked stampede that followed, local officials said.

Among the dead in the Baghdad bombings were women and children, security and hospital officials told AFP, adding that about 70 other people were wounded.

THE Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas is moving to suppress an outbreak of violence in the Gaza Strip that began at the start of the weekend and left seven people dead.

Explosions, believed to be the work of the rival Fatah group, on Friday evening near Gaza beach killed five senior Hamas members and a child.

One of the explosions at an intersection was detonated by remote control as a car carrying the five Hamas leaders drove past.

It killed them instantly as well as six-year-old Serena Safadi, who was standing near the intersection.

Another bomb detonated at noon on Friday killed a Hamas official and a third explosion injured three people.

ROME: Italy declared a nationwide state of emergency Friday over the arrival of immigrants as Silvio Berlusconi’s right-wing government pushes forward with its crackdown on illegal immigration.

Parliament said that the state of emergency, which gives police and local authorities additional powers to tackle the influx, was extended to the entire country to combat the “persistent and exceptional” arrival of illegal immigrants. It did not give further details.

The state of emergency was earlier in effect only for the southern provinces of Sicily, Puglia and Calabria.

Italy’s long shoreline and proximity to Africa make it a popular destination and entry point into Europe for thousands of Africans who make hazardous journeys in flimsy boats each year.

The move by Berlusconi’s government, which won an April election promising a hard line on illegal immigration, which it blames for crime, was immediately attacked by the opposition.

“This way it ends up only increasing the worries and insecurities of people, exactly the opposite of what should be done,” Marco Minniti, a Democratic Party politician, said.

Two consecutive explosions in a busy shopping district in an Istanbul suburb have killed at least 13 people and injured 100.

Istanbul’s governor Muammer Guler told reporters at the scene that “it is certain that this is a terror attack.”

“First a percussion bomb exploded and then a bomb in a garbage container exploded. Thirteen were killed and more than 100 people were wounded,” the deputy prime minister, Hayati Yazici, told reporters.

Turkish television stations showed ambulances carrying badly wounded people to hospital.

A witness says the two explosions were some 10 minutes apart.

Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert this week shot off a strong secret note to US President George W. Bush, DEBKAfile’s sources reveal, protesting the administration’s strategic steps toward rapprochement with Iran.

Instead of taking action, Ol-merde blames Bush:

Israel was not forewarned, Olmert wrote bitterly, although these steps directly violated US-Israel understandings on Iran of the past year. Bush, he said, had broken the promises he gave in face-to-face meetings with the prime minister earlier this year. If nothing is done to arrest Iran’s progress towards a nuclear bomb, Olmert warned, Iran will have all the components ready for assembly by early 2009, that is, in 6-8 months.

This time line is tighter than the one the prime minister gave the Democratic Senator Barack Obama when he visited Jerusalem Wednesday, July 23.

DEBKAfile’s Washington sources add that Bush has not replied to the letter, although the prime minister wrote in a spirit of extreme alarm over the threat to Israel’s security and indeed survival building up in Tehran.
