( dpa ) – A crowd of 16,000 expatriate Turks cheered Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a vast indoor auditorium in Germany on Sunday as he told them to resist assimilation into the West.

The political rally by Germany’s biggest ethnic minority upset German politicians, who objected to a major public event on German soil being advertised on posters in Turkish only.

Erdogan indirectly addressed those concerns, saying it was right for Turkish immigrants to learn German and other languages so they could integrate, but wrong to abandon their Turkish heritage and assimilate.

“Assimilation is a crime against humanity,” he told the crowd. Many Turks had travelled from France, Belgium and the Netherlands to hear his hour-long address in the shiny venue, the Koelnarena.

“I can well understand that you are against assimilation,” he said. “It is important to learn German, but your Turkish language should not be neglected.”

He said ethnic Turks abroad should be more confident in standing up for their interests, and should win election as mayors and members of European national parliaments.

The prime minister called for a swift inquiry to find the causes of a fire a week ago that killed nine Turkish people in the German city of Ludwigshafen.

Erdogan was lionized by other speakers at the event, organized by the Union of European Turkish Democrats, a group that supports his moderate Islamist AKP party.

Outside, bearded members of the audience spoke politely to an elderly woman protester, Vera Villinger, who wore a scarf in German colours and claimed Islam was taking over Germany.

“I’m glad you’ve come along and spoken openly of your concerns. In itself that is exemplary,” one man told her.

The only hostility was towards a group of Kurdish protesters, who were ringed by police. The fuming Kurds roared back abuse at a passer-by they took for a Turk. He was in fact a 24-year-old German.

A WOMAN agreed to plant a bomb on a busy Sydney street in exchange for a promise of marriage from her prisoner boyfriend, a court has heard.

Jill Allison Courtney and Hassan Kalache are on trial in the NSW Supreme Court, charged with conspiring to bomb a public place and kill or maim passers-by.

Courtney occasionally whispered to Kalache during the court proceedings.

In his opening address, the prosecutor, Anthony Cook, SC, said Courtney was “very much in love” with Kalache, who used the prospect of marriage “as an incentive” for her to carry out the plot.

He said Kalache had suggested Courtney “place a bomb in a public place in Sydney and she, mainly because of her love for him, agreed … that it would be done and that she would do it”.

A search of Courtney’s home found partial recipes for bomb-making and a wig which she planned to use as a disguise, Mr Cook said.

The court heard that Kalache and Courtney had formed a relationship by July 2005 which was carried out through telephone conversations and her visits to him at Lithgow jail.

In recorded phone conversations between July 1, 2005, and March 24, 2006, they spoke in code about an event which they at different times referred to as a “mission”, a “party” and a “thing”, Mr Cook told the court.

One phone call revealed the marriage would “not take place until after [Courtney had] completed something”, Mr Cook said.

MAMDOUH Habib’s son has successfully staved off a jail sentence by arguing he was traumatised by his father’s time in Guantanamo Bay.

Mustafa Habib, 19, faced a maximum of 12 months jail and a $5000 fine following his conviction for causing public mischief last year.

Instead he was given a good behaviour bond for 18 months – with psychological counselling – after a court found he had falsely accused police of deliberating running over his foot.

Al-Qaeda leaders admit: ‘We are in crisis. There is panic and fear’

Al-Qaeda in Iraq faces an “extraordinary crisis”. Last year’s mass defection of ordinary Sunnis from al-Qaeda to the US military “created panic, fear and the unwillingness to fight”. The terrorist group’s security structure suffered “total collapse”.

These are the words not of al-Qaeda’s enemies but of one of its own leaders in Anbar province — once the group’s stronghold. They were set down last summer in a 39-page letter seized during a US raid on an al-Qaeda base near Samarra in November.

The US military released extracts from that letter yesterday along with a second seized in another November raid that is almost as startling.

That second document is a bitter 16-page testament written last October by a local al-Qaeda leader near Balad, north of Baghdad. “I am Abu-Tariq, emir of the al-Layin and al-Mashahdah sector,” the author begins. He goes on to describe how his force of 600 shrank to fewer than 20.

“We were mistreated, cheated and betrayed by some of our brothers,” he says. “Those people were nothing but hypocrites, liars and traitors and were waiting for the right moment to switch sides with whoever pays them most.”

Islamization of Europe and The European Union

Hugh Fitzgerald of Jihad Watch recently suggested a number of things Europeans can do to halt Islamization. The proposals were good, but I think we should focus on the most important obstacle: the European Union. I’ve suggested in the past that the EU is the principal motor behind the Islamization of Europe, and that the entire organization needs to be dismantled as soon as possible, otherwise nothing substantial can ever be done about the Muslim invasion. At the Gates of Vienna blog, I am writing a text called “Ten Reasons to Get Rid of the European Union,” which can be translated into other languages and be republished when it is completed.

As Bat Ye’or demonstrates in her book Eurabia: The Euro-Arab Axis, senior EU leaders have actively been working for years to merge Europe with the Arab world. They are now feeling confident enough to say this openly. The British Foreign Minister David Miliband in November 2007 stated that the European Union should work towards including Middle Eastern and North African countries, as this would “extend stability.” He also said that the EU must “keep our promises to Turkey” regarding EU membership.

The EU involves the free movement of people across borders. If it expands to the Middle East, hundreds of millions of Muslims will have free access to Germany, Italy, France, Britain, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Austria. If Turkey becomes a member, it means that Greeks, Bulgarians and others who have fought against oppression by Ottoman Turks for centuries will now be flooded with Muslims from a rapidly re-Islamizing Turkey. The same goes for Poles, Hungarians, Romanians and others who fought against Muslims for centuries.

The EU’s Justice and Security Commissioner Franco Frattini states that Europe must relax its immigration controls and open the door to an extra 20 million “Africans and Asians” during the next two decades. Most of these “Africans and Asians” come from the predominantly Muslim countries of North Africa and the Greater Middle East. The EU thus decided to flood Europe with tens of millions of Muslims at the same time as peaceful Europeans demonstrating against the Islamization of Europe were brutally harassed by the police in the EU capital of Brussels. Frattini has also banned the use of the phrase Islamic terrorism: “People who commit suicide attacks or criminal activities on behalf of religion, Islamic religion or other religion, they abuse the name of this religion.” He thinks we shouldn’t use the word “immigration,” either, we should talk about “mobility.”

Headless Body; Man On Murder Charge

Police have charged a 45-year-old man with murder after the headless body of a man was found behind a shopping centre. 

Mohamed Boudjenane, of Kingsgate Road, Kilburn, north London, will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on Monday.

The headless body, wrapped in blankets, was found by shoppers in a supermarket goods cage in Kingsgate Place, Kilburn, on Wednesday.

Police are still holding a man and a woman on suspicion of assisting an offender.  All three were arrested in Alvaston, Derby, on Friday.
Officers are still searching for the head and murder weapon.

The identity of the victim is unknown.

AMSTERDAM, 07/02/08 – The city of Amsterdam has developed teaching material warning children against the politics of Geert Wilders, newspaper De Telegraaf yesterday reported. Wilders calls the campaign “sickening”.

The newspaper quoted from a letter that the city council has sent to three hundred primary and secondary schools in Amsterdam. Primary school heads believe that the letter is intended to anticipate the anti-Islam film that Wilders, MP and leader of the Party for Freedom (PVV), intends to release in March.
The letter, which the newspaper claims is intended as teaching material, contains cartoons of Wilders, Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende and a white family that wants nothing to do with a polite Islamic boy. The text reads: ‘If you say bad things about someone, they will feel hurt. They may not dare to say anything in return, because they are afraid of being hurt even more. Then there is not much left of freedom of speech,’ according to De Telegraaf.

The Amsterdam council, which is dominated by Labour (PvdA), concludes the pamphlet with the words, ‘Unfortunately there are politicians who think they will become more popular by being extremely negative about certain groups of people. They think you should be able to say anything, even if it is hurtful. But this does not make things very pleasant in the Netherlands, as before you know it, they are setting one against the other’.

A spokesman for the Amsterdam city council stated that the message did not only refer to Wilders’ opinions. Moreover, the ‘teaching letter’ also calls on pupils to talk to each other and respect each other’s views, the spokesman pointed out.

Wilders responded indignantly to the letter. “Sickening. Leaflets like this should not be subsidised. The contents are prejudiced and inaccurate. If you decide to do this, then write about the cowardice of the PvdA and the multicultural drama as well.”

Iran’s ambassador to Spain has compared chopping off the hands of thieves to a “surgeon amputating a limb to prevent the spread of gangrene”.

In a defence of Iran’s tough implementation of Islamic law, Seyed Davoud Salehi called for “the traditions, religion and economic development” of Iran to be taken into account by those monitoring human rights in the country. He also argued that the death penalty was necessary “to preserve the health of society as a whole”.
