BERLIN (AP) — A German businessman who printed the name of the Quran on toilet paper and offered the rolls for sale to mosques and media will face trial for disturbing the peace.

The man, identified only as Manfred van H., is scheduled to go on trial Feb. 23 at a court in Luedinghausen in western Germany, Jochen Dyhr, a spokesman for judicial authorities in nearby Muenster, said Thursday.

The businessman last summer printed sheets of toilet paper with the sentence “Koran, the Holy Qur’aen” and sent them to about 15 mosques, television stations and magazines.

In an accompanying letter, authorities say, he asserted that Islam’s holy book is a “cookbook for terrorists” that calls for acts of violence.

He proposed that a “memorial to all victims of Islamic terror” be set up, financed by sales of the toilet paper –– an offer that prosecutors say he also posted on the Internet.

The businessman’s offer led to criminal complaints and telephone death threats against him.

Prosecutors argue that the man’s actions overstepped the legally guaranteed freedom to criticize other religions. They say he has cited his right to freedom of opinion and artistic expression, and said his aim was to provoke rather than actually sell the toilet paper.

Now do a quick calculation. Estimate the average value of a car at €10,000. Since the damage amount is €4 million, at least 400 cars must have been burned.

Nearly one in three people in the Arab world is illiterate, including nearly half of all women in the region, the Tunis-based Arab League Educational Cultural and Scientific Organisation said Monday.
Three-quarters of the 100 million people unable to read or write in the 21 Arab countries are aged between 15 and 45 years old, the Arab League group, known by its acronym ALECSO, said in a statement.

Equally alarming, some 46.5 percent of women in the region are illiterate, the organisation reported, urging governments to put the fight against illiteracy at the top of their agendas.

While describing access to primary school education as “indispensable,” it also urged Arab countries to focus on adult education to avoid “serious incidents in the evolution of (Arab) societies”.

ALECSO has previously sounded the alarm on illiteracy in the region, noting it had failed to meet a 1990 United Nations goal to halve adult illiteracy over the subsequent decade.

In July, Arab states adopted an action plan spearheaded by the group to promote education, notably through collaboration with key international organisations.

While illiteracy affects the entire Arab world, the more highly populated countries — such as Egypt, Sudan, Algeria and Morocco — are particularly vulnerable.

On the Ekhlaas terrorist website there is a petition drive to give an anti-Muslim and anti-Islam chat room over at PalTalk the heave ho. Not just any petition drive, but one that calls for a million Jihadis to deluge PalTalk.com in Manhattan to get them to drop the suspect chat room. The Ekhlaas website alleges that PalTalk told them to get one million signatures and they would close the offending forum down. We consider this outrageous submission to cultural Jihad. It might be useful to identify what chat room it is and send PalTalk a counter ACT petition suggesting that they keep up the anti-Muslim and Islam forum under US Constitutional free speech rules. What this amounts to is intimidation by electronic Jihadis flexing their muscle via their mouse pads. It also implies that they have economic power vis a vis the revenues that PalTalk collects from hosting such forums and participant fees. Write us and tell us what you think should be done to expose this, other than, of course, shutting down the Ekhlaas terrorist website hosted by HiVelocity in Tampa.

On January 6 2008 the Ekhlaas terrorist forum, the largest terrorist forum on the internet, posted a thread asking the members of the forum to sign a petition to be sent to Paltalk.com asking them to shut down a chat room that they accuse of being anti-Muslim. According to Ekhlaas terrorist forum, the Muslim activists were able to gather over one million signatures for the petition to close the PalTalk chat room that they claim to be anti-Muslim. According to the terrorist forum PalTalk told the petitioners to gather one million signature and they will shut the room that they are asking to be shut.

The soldier was carrying his IDF-issued weapon. He entered Bethlehem in order to fix his car.

PA “police” transferred the two to the IDF’s hands at the “X” junction above the tunnels road.

But senior figures from the Church of England have backed the Bishop of Rochester’s remarks about faith and said Christians in predominantly Muslim areas could feel isolated and nervous about how to express their belief.

“Religious groups” have demanded the resignation of the Bishop of Rochester after he claimed that Islamic radicals had turned parts of Britain into “no-go” areas for non-Muslims.

The Bishop of Burnley, the Rt Rev John Goddard, said his colleague had raised serious questions about the role of faith, race and culture in British society.

The Bishop of Blackburn, the Rt Rev Nicholas Reade, said it was becoming difficult for Christians to share their faith in areas where there was a high proportion of other faiths.

William Hague, the shadow foreign secretary, said: “I don’t think that view is factually correct. I’m not sure where these no-go areas are, I don’t recognise that description.”

But Bishop Goddard said that Christians, who are outnumbered in many parts of Blackburn, were frightened that their ideas could be misinterpreted by other faiths and seen as a form of oppression.

“It is not fear that there is going to be retaliation but it is a fear that you get it badly wrong and cause hurt to others of integrity of other faith you did not intend,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

“When you engage in proclaiming the Christian faith in an area dominated by another religion, I and others tread very carefully so that the message is heard and not seen as some sort of oppression.”

Bishop Goddard said Christians in northern towns such as Blackburn and Burnley, where 95 per cent of the Asian population is Muslim, could find life difficult.

“We want to go beyond multi-cultural societies, where cultures and cultural groups simply coexist side by side: mere tolerance is not enough any more,” the EU’s Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, Jan Figel, said ahead of the official launch of the European Year of Inter-cultural Dialogue 2008.

“We need to give an impulse for a true metamorphosis in our societies, so that we can create an inter-cultural Europe where cultures exchange and interact constructively,” he said.

On Tuesday, top EU officials are set to launch the Year of Inter- cultural Dialogue at a ceremony in Slovenia, the country which currently holds the EU’s six-month rotating presidency.

Why not give Christians who are escaping from Islam a place at the front of the refugee queue?

Christian immigrants, even from such countries as Nigeria or Pakistan, would be much more likely to assimilate fully and pursue gainful employment in the West than their Muslim counterparts. There is a political advantage to be gained here, since anyone who favors giving them preference could not reasonably be termed a “racist” or a “neo-Nazi”.

Western society would benefit from a modest influx of such people, assuming that Muslim immigration could be simultaneously reduced.

Looking relaxed and with short-cropped hair, Dr Haneef yesterday spoke of the damage his detention had caused his career and reputation, during a press conference in India following his return from Mecca.

“I’m hopeful of this because the damages that have been done to my career, my job, my aspirations, and my reputation is far too much … they might try to build up some bridges by compensating me,” he said.

Dr Haneef was arrested while working at the Gold Coast Hospital on July 2 last year and charged 12 days later with supporting a terrorism organisation after his SIM card was linked to a failed bombing of Glasgow airport. The charges were dropped a fortnight later, but then immigration minister Kevin Andrews had already revoked Dr Haneef’s work visa.

The full bench of the Federal Court last month upheld a judge’s earlier decision to reinstate his visa, clearing the way for Dr Haneef to return to Australia.

Dr Haneef said he was yet to decide whether he would return, adding his family wanted assurances he would be safe. “There are a few things in this regard, the first thing would be my family … and I have to discuss this in great detail with them,” he said.

“They need a firm reassurance from the authorities and Australian Federal Police that there wouldn’t be any harm to me … when I go back there.

AN Islamic group accused of trying to seize control of a Sydney mosque is understood to be part of a hardline religious movement that has been linked to the 2005 London bombings.

The Australian has been told that some of the group’s members follow the Tablighi Jamaat stream of Islam, which is under watch by Western intelligence agencies because of its suspected links to terrorism.

The battle for the Sefton mosque in Sydney’s southwest has already resulted in legal action being taken over ownership of the property and the resident imam being kicked out of his home.

Sheik Abdul Karim Quasimi has also been served with an apprehended violence order forcing him to stay away from the Helen Street mosque.

Sheik Abdul Karim, who is not a Tablighi follower, said the group had gone to extremes to remove him, including calling in police to evict him from his home in the middle of the night.

“It was very scary, the police arrived very early in the morning,” he said.

He said the group was attempting an ethnic and religious-based takeover, wanting the mosque exclusively for Bangladeshi Muslims, particularly those who follow Tablighi, to the exclusion of other ethnic groups including Arabic Muslims.

“Some of the Tablighi in Australia are very dogmatic, bordering on extreme,” he said.

The caretaker of the mosque, Mohammed Zantar, said trouble started last year when a number of new members, who are Tablighi, were elected to the 15-strong committee that runs the mosque.

Islamic Friendship Association president Keysar Trad said the move against the imam was unprecedented. “It is a disgrace to seek out an AVO against an imam unless he’s made a major breach of religious teachings or the law,” he said.

The Tablighi are influenced by a fundamentalist branch of Saudi Arabian-based Islam known as Wahabism. The sect has been linked to two July 7 London bombers, and failed shoe bomber Richard Reid is also known to have attended Tablighi meetings.

Californicating Talib Makes Threats Against Bush Middle East Visit

American Al Qaeda leader Adam Gadahn told his followers to welcome Bush “with bombs and traps” upon his upcoming visit to the Middle East this week.

“The occupied territories are awaiting their first visit by the crusader Bush and the mujahideen are also waiting for him,” said Gadahn, a California native and now an Al Qaeda spokesman.

Gadahn is the star of the latest al Qaeda propaganda video to be posted online by the group’s media wing, As Sahab.

In his newest dramatic gesture, Gadahn tore up his U.S. passport in protest of the imprisonment of fellow al Qaeda followers Abu Zubaydah, John Walker Lindh and Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahman.

“I don’t need it to travel anyway,” he said afterwards.

Gadahn made reference to November’s Annapolis conference of Middle Eastern leaders, saying it was a gathering of Bush’s “loyal puppets.” He said the United States has been “unmistakably defeated” in Iraq in Afghanistan and has lost the battle for hearts and minds “in spectacular fashion.”

“They’re about to hand the whole mess over to local proxies who, if they haven’t already, shall soon rue the day they sold their souls and religion to the American devil,” Gadahn said.

Gadahn also made reference to Pakistan, but didn’t mention the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, indicating the video may have been made before her death. Rather, he said Al Qaeda “continues to strike the ruling regime” there as it fights against President Pervez Musharraf’s “farce of elections.”

Gadahn, who is under federal indictment for treason, is believed to be hiding in Pakistan. He left Orange County, Calif., almost 10 years ago for Pakistan and has been a regular feature in al Qaeda videos, at first wearing a mask, but he has been appearing unveiled for more than a year now. He often threatens to continue to target the United States at home and abroad.

Despite his rejection of U.S. citizenship, Gadahn made reference to the mortgage crisis in the United States, saying that it was triggered by right-wing fanatics trying to usher in the “end days.”
