KABUL —  Six people were killed Tuesday in southern Afghanistan, where protesters claiming that international troops destroyed copies of the Koran clashed with Afghan and foreign security forces, Afghan officials said.

KABUL (AP) - Protesters claiming that international troops destroyed copies of the Quran clashed with Afghan and foreign security forces on Tuesday, leaving six people dead, Afghan officials said.

Also in the south, 13 insurgents were killed by a missile that international forces fired from an unmanned drone, NATO said.

A protest of about 2,000 people in Helmand province’s Garmsir district turned violent as demonstrators fought with security forces, leaving six civilians dead, according to the top official in the province, Abdullah Barak. Provincial spokesman Daoud Ahmadi confirmed six dead but did not say if they were civilians.

NATO said only one person was killed during the protest — an insurgent sniper who allegedly shot at an Afghan official and was killed by NATO troops.

Afghanistan is a Muslim nation where blasphemy of Muhammad and the Quran is considered a serious crime that is punishable by death.

Foreign Service officer and former Marine captain says he no longer knows why his nation is fighting

A former Marine Corps captain with combat experience in Iraq, Hoh had also served in uniform at the Pentagon, and as a civilian in Iraq and at the State Department. By July, he was the senior U.S. civilian in Zabul province, a Taliban hotbed.

But last month, in a move that has sent ripples all the way to the White House, Hoh, 36, became the first U.S. official known to resign in protest over the Afghan war, which he had come to believe simply fueled the insurgency.

“I have lost understanding of and confidence in the strategic purposes of the United States’ presence in Afghanistan,” he wrote Sept. 10 in a four-page letterto the department’s head of personnel. “I have doubts and reservations about our current strategy and planned future strategy, but my resignation is based not upon how we are pursuing this war, but why and to what end.” Read it all

Hundreds of angry protesters in Afghanistan’s capital today burned an effigy of President Obama, acting on rumors that American troops had desecrated the Koran.

Afghan police opened fire to disperse up to 1,000 protesters in Kabul on Sunday after they burned an effigy of President Barack Obama in protest at American troops allegedly desecrating a copy of the Koran. Telegraph UK

U.S. military officials emphatically denied that any copies of the Muslim holy book had been mishandled, and accused the Taliban of spreading falsehoods to incite hatred against Western forces….

And while it is perfectly reasonable and understandable that the military would issue such denials, it also serves to validate the ridiculous and dangerous assumption that it is perfectly legitimate to go beserk if a Koran were desecrated.

Afghan musician hopes the Taliban will go away so he can play again

The Taliban believe music is un-Islamic. Why? Hadith Qudsi 19:5: “The Prophet said that Allah commanded him to destroy all the musical instruments, idols, crosses and all the trappings of ignorance.”

The Hadith Qudsi, or holy Hadith, are those in which Muhammad transmits the words of Allah, although those words are not in the Qur’an.

Muhammad also said:

(1) “Allah Mighty and Majestic sent me as a guidance and mercy to believers and commanded me to do away with musical instruments, flutes, strings, crucifixes, and the affair of the pre-Islamic period of ignorance.”

(2) “On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will pour molten lead into the ears of whoever sits listening to a songstress.”

(3) “Song makes hypocrisy grow in the heart as water does herbage.”

(4) “This community will experience the swallowing up of some people by the earth, metamorphosis of some into animals, and being rained upon with stones.” Someone asked, “When will this be, O Messenger of Allah?” and he said, “When songstresses and musical instruments appear and wine is held to be lawful.”

(5) “There will be peoples of my Community who will hold fornication, silk, wine, and musical instruments to be lawful ….” – ‘Umdat al-Salik r40.0

This ahistorical, doctrinally ignorant idiocy is melded to an even sicker policy which literally sacrifices the lives of our fighting men to McChrystal’s insane notion of winning Afghan “hearts and minds,” while utterly ignoring the only three important strategic objectives in the region: delaying/destroying Iran’s nuclear program; removing/destroying Pakistan’s nukes; and destroying Afghanistan’s opium production. If those three objectives were accomplished, there would be no strategic need to have “boots on the ground” in the region at all.

As the duty (to wage Jihad) is an overriding one all means are permissible. “War is stratagem, “ the Prophet says, “War is deceit.” (Sahih Muslim, Volume III, pp. 945, 990-991; Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 4, pp. 166-67; Sunan Abu Dawud, Volume II, p. 728) Thus one may lie, one may kill the enemy while he is asleep, one may kill him by tricking him. (for example, see Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 4, pp. 164-5, 167-68)

An Al Qaeda fanatic who trains fellow Europeans to fight in Afghanistan has given a stark warning to our troops – by posing with a 2ft-long beheading knife.

The bearded terrorist, identified as ‘Abu Askar the German’, belongs to one of Osama Bin Laden’s ‘foreign legions’ fighting alongside the Taliban.

In a new terror video posted online he vows to ‘achieve a victory for Islam’ using the huge blade, which is inscribed with an Arabic passage from the Quran. In pictures designed to scare British and American soldiers is also seen sitting with an AK47 rifle.

Yesterday Nato officers were reassessing the security of hundreds of outposts scattered across Afghanistan.

“Everyone is aware of what happened in Nuristan, and checking their outposts are well protected and manned,” said Major Jason Henneke, executive officer of the 10th Mountain Division’s 2-87 Battalion in Wardak province. Major Henneke’s battalion lost two soldiers, with three wounded, late on Friday when an Afghan policeman opened fire on his American colleagues during a joint operation to clear the Taleban from villages around the Nerkh valley.

You don’t trust anybody, especially after an incident like this,” said Specialist Raquime Mercer, 20, whose close friend died in the attack.

Specialist Alexander Miller had been watching a mysterious Afghan standing in a cornfield for 20 minutes. But it took only a split second for the American soldier to be mortally wounded.

As Miller turned his back momentarily, the Afghan picked up a weapon hidden at his feet and fired a burst. One of the rounds tore into the 21- year-old soldier’s groin. Troops rushed to apply pressure to the wound as they called in a helicopter, but he was dead on arrival at the nearest field hospital.

Canadian soldiers have been explicitly ordered to stop or report incidents of Afghan soldiers or interpreters raping boys, Defence Minister Peter MacKay says.

MacKay maintains there is no evidence to support allegations that senior officers have turned a blind eye to the troubling abuse, which is the subject of an ongoing military investigation. Even so, he felt compelled to lay out the law to clear any possible confusion.

“We require that any wrongdoing that a Canadian soldier would see in Afghanistan or anywhere would be no less than the expectation that we would have in Canada – to do the right thing, to prevent, to pre-empt, to intervene,” MacKay said Monday.

The Canadian Forces launched two probes into allegations of child sexual abuse at military bases in Kandahar. The first probe wrapped up in May and cleared Canadian soldiers and commanders of any wrongdoing for either not reporting the incidents or not acting on witness accounts of abuse.

The second, a board of inquiry, is ongoing.
