Italy: Northern League doubles support

The Northern League, an anti immigration party, which has now become pivotal in Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s ruling coalition, has seen it’s support more than double in the last five years.

Led by firebrand Umberto Bossi, who once called for the Italian navy to shell boats carrying illegal immigrants towards the country, his victory mirrors those recently by far right parties in Hungary, Holland and France.  The League has campaigned against the building of mosques and are also pressing for legislation on the wearing of burkas.  more

Milan Mayor Boosts Security

North Africans went on a five-hour rampage late on Saturday after El Saied’s killing, attacking cars, shops and businesses in the neighbourhood owned by immigrants from Peru, Ecuador and other South American countries.

Police detained close to 40 Egyptians after the riots, and arrested six of them. Many of those picked up were said to be illegal immigrants.

The president of the Lombardy region surrounding Milan, Roberto Formigoni, from Berlusconi’s ruling People of Freedom party said illegal immigrants would be repatriated.

“The law is clear on this – illegal immigrants must be escorted back to their homeland and this is what we’ll do,” he said.

The racketeers  forged  fake documents for Muslim invaders who imported underage Muslim prostitutes. Among those arrested is an Italian priest, Don Carlo. He and eight others were arrested for selling forged travel documents to  illegals for a hefty fee.

The pastor of the  Bosco Minniti church, Don Carlo D’Antoni, was charged with others for belonging to a criminal group facilitating illegal stay of Muslims in the state of Italy, forgery and false statements to the authorities.

The clashes, which began late on Thursday, left 67 people injured in the Calabrian town of Rosarno, but calm was generally restored on Saturday, with barricades erected by locals dismantled and shops open.

The injured included 31 foreigners, the latest of whom was fired at with a shotgun on Saturday, as well as 19 police officers and 17 locals, police said.

Locals applauded as buses with police escorts left, taking immigrants from Rosarno to the towns of Crotone, 170km away, and Bari, around 400km to the northeast.

There seems to be consensus across the religious communities that faith, any faith, is better than none at all. The Catholics seem to be infected with the bug as well:

Vatican supports call to teach Islam

The Vatican has surprisingly welcomed a proposal to teach Islam in Italian schools.

Adolfo Urso, an ally of prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, said the subject should be taught for an hour a week to “avoid Muslim youngsters being drawn to the ghettos of madrasse (Islamic schools) run by fundamentalists” and was backed by deputy prime minister Gianfranco Fini.

Cardinal Renato Martino, of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said: “This would avoid radicalism and should be considered – obviously with some form of control.”

(ANSA) – Milan, October 13 – A man who let off a bomb outside a Milan police barracks Monday was part of a ‘do-it-yourself’ cell with two others with no links to jihadi groups, Italian intelligence said Tuesday.

The three acted alone and were not linked to al-Qaeda or other Islamist fighters, the sources said.

They formed a one-off cell but were ”no less dangerous because of their isolation and because they were ready to die for their cause”.

* Now we start making sense. But why aren’t we told what “cause” it is that wants them to kill and die for it?

The  reason for waging jihad has nothing to do with Israel or U.S. foreign policy:

So long as Islam endures, the reconciliation of its adherents, even with Jews and Christians, and still more with the rest of mankind, must continue to be an insoluble problem. … For an indefinite future, however reluctantly, we must confine our political recognition to the professors of those religions which … preach the doctrine of “live and let live” (The Institutes of the Law of Nations, p. 124).

In other words, political recognition — with all the attendant negotiations and diplomacy that come with it — should be granted to all major religions/civilizations except Islam, which does not recognize the notion of “live and let live,” as evinced by, among other stipulations, the Koran’s commands to its adherents to “enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong,” (e.g., Koran 3:110), that is, enforce Sharia law upon the earth.
