Police followed a North African suspect into the building. He was arrested together with the president of the Moslem Defence League and the mosque caretaker. WTF? The Moslem Defence League? Why in the f*%#g hell do they need a “Defence League?”

I was just there a month ago. The mosque, believe it or not, is located underneath the cathedral. Heaven knows how that came about. Is the Catholic church aiding and abetting the spread of Islam?

They say that “the sanctuary of a mosque should be respected in the same way as that of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues.” But would police really not enter a church or synagogue in order to make an arrest? I doubt that.

PALMA – THREE arrests were made at Palma’s main mosque in Calle Joan Mestre after police followed a North African suspect into the building. He was arrested together with the president of the Moslem Defence League and the mosque caretaker, both of whom had reportedly tried to prevent the police from entering the premises, saying that the sanctuary of a mosque should be respected in the same way as that of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues.The Moslems claimed that the police had become violent and had used force in making the arrests. However, the police have a very different story to relate. They state they were following a man who had failed to stop when being flagged down on his motorcycle for a roadside check, and that he had taken refuge in the mosque.

On hearing of the incident, some 150 angry local Moslems protested outside the police station, saying that relations between the Islamic community and the security forces were now at an all-time low due to their holy site not being respected.
An internal enquiry is to be launched to establish exactly what happened during the incident.

It would seem that much of what passes for diplomatic discourse in Australia is based on second-rate academic thinking that owes more to 19th century gentleman-adventurers than to the realities of the 21st century.

The handbook on China talks about “losing face”, when it is obvious from the case involving Rio executive Hu Stern that the mandarins of today are more concerned with losing money, and the handbook on Indonesia might have been written in Bung Sukarno’s era.

Attorney-General McClelland may believe a softly-softly politically correct approach will soften hard-liners or prevent more young men and women from becoming radicalised, but nowhere is there any evidence for this.

Soothing words and another bureaucracy chasing those who call Islamic terrorists for what they are and what they do will not halt the flow of suicidal graduates from the schools in Solo and other parts of Indonesia, let along those waiting for places in the madrassahs of Pakistan.

As for following the UK Home Office guidelines, forget it. If anyone is any doubt they should ask Salman Rushdie. Read the whole thing

Why Can’t We Recognize Islam As Our Enemy?

There was a dialogue between the imam and a member of the audience over whether Shariah or the Constitution should be the supreme law of the land in the United States

Audience member: “Would you get rid of the Constitution for Shariah, yes or no?”

Imam: “Over the Muslim world? Yes, it would be gone.”

Audience Member: And so if the United States was in a Muslim world, the Constitution would be gone?”

Imam: “If the United States was in the Muslim world, the Muslims who are here would be calling and happy to see the Shariah applied, yes we would.”

Audience Member: “And the Constitution gone. That’s all.”

Imam: “Yes, as Muslims they would be long gone.”

Clearly Hizb ut-Tahrir’s is not only is determined to destroy capitalism — it would shred the United States Constitution as well in favor of Shariah law.

Could domestic Communists in the 1950’s have done worse? What has happened to America when we once recognized the threat of Communism but fail to recognize the far worse threat – Islam?

Theodore Dalrymple argues that the police should use their instincts – in other words their prejudices – more, not less, if they are to be more effective in fighting crime.

…The other day I happened to see a fellow-passenger reading an article in a newspaper that I had missed, about the way in which police in Britain have now started searching white people against whom they have no suspicions whatever, simply to balance the racial proportions of people searched in their efforts to prevent terrorism.

I do not know whether the story is true, but as the Americans say, “it listens”: it is perfectly plausible or even likely, because of our obsession with targets and quotas. I admit that I am highly sceptical about how much of the activity carried out in the name of anti-terrorism is genuinely and necessarily connected with that end, but racial quotas can only weaken that connection further…

The pretence that one can approach the world without prejudice is dishonest and absurd. The sleep of prejudice brings forth bureaucratic monsters. It is to go into the world without the faintest idea about where one might find the things one is looking for…

The failure to make the most obvious judgments leads to vicious absurdity. I recall the case of one young man of Indian extraction who was set upon by three young louts with a long history of violence. The young man was thoroughly respectable, as well as being self-evidently mild-mannered; but the three louts accused him of having attacked them first, an accusation so prima facie absurd that one would have thought no one could entertain it for a moment. But, in the name of equity, the police treated it as seriously as the young man’s accusation against them, which was far from absurd. They charged him as well as the three louts; and offered to drop the charges only if he dropped the charges against the three louts.

That is justice in a society that claims to be without prejudice.

Personally I have a problem with the “government-sponsored Sufism is the solution to all our security woes” analysis. I prefer the approach that Congressman Charlie Wilson called for in Afghanistan – spending money on schools and hospitals and development and creating jobs and hope. Poverty and hopelessness attract people to desperation which terrorists feed off. But I guess it isn’t in some people’s interest to do that.

Of course, we have yet to see the likes of Yusuf  “spending money (of their own) on schools and hospitals and development and creating  jobs and hope.” Btw: the “government sponsored Sufism” didn’t prevent the Turks from raping and murdering 1.5 million Armenian Christians. Why could that be, Yusuf? Pray-tell: could it be that they’re  all reading the same Koran?

You must be  the only small “c” conservative left on the planet who hasn’t got the message yet, Yusuf…

Another Example Of Really Stupid

“Poverty and hopelessness attract people to desperation which terrorists feed off”- sez sharia advocate Yusuf Irfan, but he conveniently forgets to mention that the best of all the worst jihadist attacks have been carried out by well educated, wealthy Muselmaniacs.  Do I really need to mention Bin Laden and doctor Ayman al Zawahiri by name? The “magnificent 19” were well educated,  (Mohammedan Atta spoke 4 languages and had an engineering degree from Hamburg. The Glasgow doctors who tried to blow up the airport were certainly not driven by “poverty and hopelessness”- they were driven by the jihad ideology.

So “building schools and hospitals and development and creating jobs and hope” is all it takes to pacify the jihadists, Yusuf? Gee,  under the leadership of George W. Bush the ‘coalition of the willing’ build mosques and madrassas, housing and dams, the only problem with that was they couldn’t build them faster than the Taliban would blow them up. 

But anyhow, education is not something Yusuf’s co-religionists value, as we can see here:

They’re opposed to Western education as being against Sharia norms: the group wants to “clean the (Nigerian) system which is polluted by western education and uphold Sharia’h all over the country.” Imagine the quips, the digs, and the New York Times analyses if there were a Christian group calling itself “Education Is Sin.” This one, however, will pass unnoticed, or with “Boko Haram” left untranslated in reports — as in the Reuters story here.

Others who were feeling, often unaware, an intolerable civilisational guilt, found it quite a relief, eventually, to accept the Arab narrative about those terrible Israelis and thus to have the psychic consolation, in the most extreme form of this mental illness, of allowing themselves to believe that it was Jews who were now behaving like Nazis. This was utter nonsense, but what a boost, not least in Germany and other parts of Europe. The cult of “Palestinianism” could be tied in — quite wrongly — with a hypertrophied sense of embarrassment about anything that might, however implausibly, be linked to European “colonialism.”

RADICAL Islamists yesterday torched a police headquarters, a church and a Customs office in northern Nigeria, as the death toll in weekend religious clashes climbed to 150… The Nigerian Taliban emerged in 2004 when it set up a base—dubbed Afghanistan—in Kanamma village in Yobe, on the border with Niger, from where it attacked police outposts and killed police officers.

Its membership is mainly drawn from university dropouts.

In a story on the Boko Haram (“Education Is Sin”) Sharia supremacist group that has started riots in Nigeria, the Associated Press actually refers to the perpetrators as “Islamic militants.” The story is “Nigeria imposes curfews, sends troops to the north,” by Bashir Adigun, July 28, and you can find it here (thanks to M. P.). The story even notes that Boko Haram is also known as “Al-Sunna wal Jamma” — that is, “Followers of Mohammed’s Teachings.”

Some Muslims have refused to use alcohol-based hand gels to combat the spread of swine flu because they claim it is against their religion.

Some of those employed by St Albans Council in Hertfordshire have complained about the antibacterial lotion, which is considered a key strategy in containing the virus.

Officials were concerned because the Koran bans Muslims from consuming alcohol, so council chiefs issued them with non-alcohol hand gels, which studies have shown to be less effective in killing bugs.

But Muslim leaders criticised the council’s decision to change the gel, pointing out that Islamic teachings allow Muslims to use alcohol for medicinal purposes.

The Muslim Council of Britain said: ‘We would advise people to follow the medical advice so we would, of course, encourage people to use hand gel. ‘People need to find ways to accommodate their beliefs.’

* Thus those who refuse are simply once again trying to reinforce the proposition that Islamic norms and practices must always and everywhere triumph over Infidel ones. This is a declaration of supremacism, not piety.

UK: Thousands of a tiny minority of extremists meet in Londonistan to demand a caliphate

Britain has revealed itself as the major Muslim invasion point for Europe with a rally of thousands of militant Muslims under the radical Hizb ut-Tahrir pan-Islamist party in London supporting Jihad and the creation of a caliphate in which non-Muslims will have no rights.

The rally — largely ignored by the controlled media out of a desire to hide the shocking truth from the British public — was organised by Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, which is the UK variant of the globalist Islamist party. The conference was provocatively titled “The Struggle for ISLAM and the call for Khilafah.” (Khilafah is the word for caliphate.)

It was opened by Dr Abdul Wahid, Chairman of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain’s Executive Committee, who said, “using the issue of terrorism and extremism, Western governments have embarked on a campaign to prevent the Muslim world establishing an Islamic government, the Caliphate that will free the Muslim world from the terror and hegemony that has been brought upon it by the West.”

Dr Wahid said, “In this critical time, Muslims needed to hold onto Islamic values living in the West, and resist the attempts to reform Islam, and to support the call for the Islamic Khilafah in the Muslim world — to end decades of oppression, colonisation and dependency.”

“The growing call for Khilafah in the Muslim world is causing increasing anxiety in Western capitals. To thwart this call Western backed puppet rulers are doing everything to stop the political work of Hizb ut Tahrir. Despite all the torture and terror upon Hizb ut Tahrir members, the party’s work continues to grow and its call is now embraced by millions of Muslims all over the world,” the conference was told.

Spencer:  They can’t abide any negative talk about Muhammad and Islam, even if that negative talk consists essentially of quoting other Islamic supremacists in their use of the Qur’an and Sunnah to justify violence and that same Islamic supremacism. Sharia norms dictate that a dhimmi who speaks ill of Muhammad or Islam forfeits his contract of “protection” and thus may lawfully be killed. And in our own day, the Organization of the Islamic Conference is working at the United Nations to criminalize “criticism” of Islam, which means any honest talk about how jihadists justify their behavior by reference to Islamic teachings. In the U.S., thuggish groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations work to stifle free speech about Islam and defame those who engage in it. In Canada, meanwhile, there is Khurram Awan.

Fearless, peerless Kathy Shaidle has the news on the latest attempt by a Muslim to silence free speech about Islam and jihad:

Now Khurrum Awan is suing Ezra Levant, for libel.

Aren’t you squirming in your seat right now? Has this news not just made your entire life worth living again?? Don’t lie.

I’ve known about this case for a while now, and already read the libel notice. It is unintentionally hilarious, full of typos and the usual beligerent Muslim “how dare you”s.

My favorite bit is what my husband is calling “psychic defamation.”

See, Awan is mad because Levant criticized a letter Awan wrote to the Toronto Star.

But Awan insists (and he’s made this claim before) that the Star’s editor changed his original letter and printed another version.

So: Ezra should have just known the printed letter wasn’t the original letter — presumably using his super-powerful Jewish ESP powers — then called the Toronto Star, asked to read Awan’s original letter, and criticized THAT one.

You think I’m kidding.

Needless to say, Ezra slices and dices Awan’s “case” over at his blog this morning:

Awan’s letter is an attempt, a year later, to change the embarrassing history of his big public campaign against Maclean’s. He was eaten alive by every journalist in the country, and was made a laughingstock in the blogosphere. Even his fellow sock puppets had the sense to abandon his suicide run. Not Awan: he’s still proudly out there calling for more censorship powers for the government. If I were a Canadian Muslim, I’d be pretty embarrassed that Awan was claiming to speak for me.It’s boring to read such whining. Awan was whiny in response to Maclean’s magazine; he was whiny on the stand at the BCHRT. He’s whiny in his endless Op-Eds. And he’s whiny in this rambling libel notice.
