A MUSLIM leader has blasted a pub for using the name of holy city Medina – branding it an insult to his religion.

The boozer in Dundee changed its name from Bar Rio to Medina Bar and Grill after a renovation.

But this has sparked outrage – as Saudi Arabian city Medina is the second-holiest site in Islam behind Mecca. Medina is also a term used for a market or trading centre in north African cities.

But Mohammed Bashir Chohan, chairman of the Dundee Islamic Society, last night said: “People are upset about it because Medina is a holy city. It does hurt when somebody misuses the name, especially if they are going to sell liquor.” More>>

Erdogan & his gang of Islamists need to be overthrown to prevent Turkey from  reverting back to pre Kemal Ataturk policies. The Turkish Army was always the guarantor of secularism. The Islamic revival movement  will not be gone anytime soon – definitely not by elections, and not by other means, only the army can remove them. Remember – the Islamists may take power democratically but they will never rule democratically. Under Erdogan, Turkey has become increasingly hostile towards the West and Israel and has made overtures towards Iran and Syria.

Turkish police arrested the former heads of the Navy and Air Force along with several other senior military officers yesterday in a sweep against top brass linked to a coup plan against the Islamist-leaning Government.

The existence of Sledgehammer, a detailed plot hatched in 2002-03, came to light last month. The arrests could be a spectacular milestone in the democratic history of Turkey, where four previous governments have been ousted by the military but no one has come to trial.

“This morning our security forces began a detention process,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Prime Minister, said during an official visit to Spain.

By the end of the day almost 50 people — including Ibrahim Firtina, the former Air Force commander, and Ozden Ornek, the former Navy commander, five other senior former generals and seven serving soldiers — had been detained in a series of early-morning raids in nine cities. They were taken to Istanbul for questioning by anti-terrorism police. More>>

After an 11-year study, researcher says jihadi ideology increasingly focuses on economic targets.

Economic terrorism is becoming the preferred tactic of radical Islamic thinkers and terror organizations, an 11-year study of public Islamist discourse has found.

Dr Gabriel Weimann, an expert on the use of online platforms by jihadi ideology on the Internet, has released a paper arguing that radical Islamic thought is increasingly supportive of terrorism whose goal is to paralyze or severely weaken Western economies.

The paper, based on an 11-year study of over 7,000 radical Islamic websites and forums, claimed that Islamist terrorist organizations are increasingly interested in operations that will yield the most economic damage, such as attacks on western multinational corporations, Muslim boycotts of those organizations, attacks on resources ‘looted’ from Muslim countries such as oil fields in Iraq and assassinations of Western economic leaders.

U.K.: Islamic scholar issues fartwa against “terrorism” — is anyone safer?

A leading Muslim scholar in Britain issued a fatwa on Tuesday condemning terrorists and suicide bombers, saying they had no justification in the name of Islam.

Pakistan-born Dr Tahir ul-Qadri …  said his 600-page fatwa, or religious ruling, was an “absolute” condemnation of terrorism without “any excuses or pretexts”.

I’m afraid, Brian Whittaker in The Guardian(well, CiF, actually) may be right.

The whole idea of waging “fatwa wars” with extremists is not only futile but anti-progressive and further entrenches the authoritarian tendencies in Islam. Issuing fatwas and promoting them, even in a good cause, is damaging because it ends up reinforcing the importance attached to fatwas in general.

He is of course responding to the story that an influential Muslim scholar has issued a global ruling against terrorism and suicide bombing.

Whittaker disagrees with Ed Hussein who also writes in The Guardian’s CiF that “Fatwas can be a force for good”.

Back to reality:

Saleh al Munajjid is a Saudi preacher. He thinks freedom is very dangerous and brutal corporal punishment in the name of Islam is fantastic.

Iran launches fierce attack on West in U.N. rights forum

GENEVA (Reuters) – Iran launched a fierce verbal assault on the West on Monday, charging some European countries of subjecting Muslim communities to insult and violence and suggesting the United States and Europe aided terrorism.

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told the United Nations Human Rights Council, to which it is bidding for election in May, that some Western states are gross violators of rights and are promoting lewdness to undermine family life.

“We need more cartoon riots…”

“There is a growing trend in applying double standards by the Western countries with regard to the freedom of expression and opinion,” Mottaki told the 47-member forum at the start of its main annual four-week session.

“Muslims throughout the world in general and the Muslim communities in Western countries in particular, have been the target not only of massive propaganda campaigns but outright social castigation and open violence, (by whom?) all under the pretext of freedom of expression,” he declared.

Too bad about disspointing all those who immediately thought the assassination of Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh was the work of the Israeli Mossad. in other words: “It’s got to be da Jooos” . The Tundra Tabloids, as well as Vlad Tepes are both on record, well over a week ago, as viewing Iran to have been the culprit all along.

TT: “The Tundra Tabloids however, believes that, while Israel’s role can’t be ruled out, it is also worthwhile to take a closer look at Iran. It’s very likely that Mahmoud al Mabhouh ran afoul with the Iranian regime, with Israeli citizens’ indentities having been stolen and used by the team that took Mabhouh out, that scenario looks the more plausible of the two.”

“An additional complication came to light this week. If the assassination was a Mossad operation, would members of the assassination team have hightailed it to…Iran?

In a brief article, the New York Times reported that the Dubai police released the names of 15 more suspects on Wednesday. For those keeping track, that brings the number of assassination team suspects to 26.

The Times reserved this “striking detail” for the sixth paragraph of its article: two of the new suspects, identified as Nicole Sandra McCabe and Adam Marcus Korman and carrying Australian passports, left Dubai on a ship bound for Iran. “The statement included no further information about the two suspects or why they would have gone to Iran.” The Times does not seek to assess the implication of this fact for the imputation of the operation to the Mossad.”

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has released a review of its strategy in the war on terrorism. The report failed to even mention the word “Islam.”

CBN News traveled to London to talk with Anjem Choudary, a leading Muslim radical who says Islamic teachings are what shaped his pro-jihad message.

Although both George W. Bush and Barack Obama have declared that Islam is a religion of peace, Choudary begs to differ.

A Religion of Peace?

“You can’t say that Islam is a religion of peace,” Choudary told CBN News. “Because Islam does not mean peace. Islam means submission. So the Muslim is one who submits. There is a place for violence in Islam. There is a place for jihad in Islam.”

(CNSNews.com) – After securing an apology from one Danish newspaper for publishing a cartoon satirizing Mohammed, a Saudi lawyer now plans to confront another 15 newspapers, filing lawsuits against them if necessary.

Faisal Yamani says he is acting on behalf of eight Muslim organizations representing “descendants of Mohammed.”

He told the Danish tabloid B.T. that he has 15 newspapers in his sights. His clients have made it clear they are ready to finance a campaign of lawsuits if the papers refuse to follow the example of the liberal daily Politiken and apologize. Yamani did not say how much he would aim to extract from the media organizations but referred to “a long and very expensive legal action.”
