Somali Pirates Hijack Vessels 1,200 Miles Offshore

A band of Somali pirates hijacked three Thai fishing boats and captured 77 sailors in an attack more than 1,200 miles offshore in the Indian Ocean, the European Union naval force said on Tuesday. The attack on Sunday was closer to India than Somalia, said John Harbour, a European Union spokesman, and was “the furthest east we are aware of since we started operations” in December 2008. The three fishing boats are now heading toward a notorious pirate den on the Somali shore. If the same exact criticisms being made against Islam today were also made centuries ago, is it reasonable to dismiss them all as “Islamophobic”— that is, as “unfounded fear of and hostility towards Islam,” as the Council on American Islamic Relationswould have it?

This is the question I often ask myself whenever I read pre-modern writings on Islam. Take that elementary schoolbook hero, Marco Polo and his famous memoirs, for example. By today’s standards, the 13th century Venetian merchant would be denounced as a rabid “Islamophobe.” For me, however, his writings contain a far more important lesson — one in continuity — and deserve closer scrutiny.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Evangelist Franklin Graham’s invitation to speak at a Pentagon prayer service has been rescinded because his comments about Islam were inappropriate, the Army said Thursday.

Graham, the son of famed evangelist Billy Graham, in 2001 described Islam as evil. More recently, he has said he finds Islam offensive and wants Muslims to know that Jesus Christ died for their sins.

Army spokesman Col. Tom Collins said Graham’s remarks were “not appropriate.”

“We’re an all-inclusive military,” Collins said. “We honor all faiths. … Our message to our service and civilian work force is about the need for diversity and appreciation of all faiths.”

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation had raised the objection to Graham’s appearance, citing his past remarks about Islam. AP/Fox News has more>>

A Dutch court Thursday acquitted an Arab organisation in The Netherlands of insulting Jews when they published a Holocaust-denying cartoon in response to caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed. (And yet, vile and disgusting anti-western and anti-Israel cartoons are standard fare in the “Islamic world”/ed)

The district court in Utrecht in the central Netherlands ruled that while the cartoon was “tasteless and particularly offensive”, its use within the context of free speech was not punishable.

The actions of the family gave the Uppsala authorities enough reasonable doubt that they were not being forthcoming about their plans to visit Kenya, (you know, Obama’s home country), so the authorities came by and picked up the girl for an examination, which determined that the gorl had not been cut. But what if she had been disfigured, would the parents have sued the state anyways, and would they have won?

All of this is ridiculous of course, and the loon judges sitting on the court bench should be yanked from their jobs, how else are officials going to determine whether or not a girl has been disfigured by the parents? If they refuse officials the right to conduct searches when there’s probable cause, then how can the law act as a deterrent. Simple, it can’t. The other issue of their being targeted because they’re Somali is laughable.

OF COURSE THEY WERE SUBJECTED TO CLOSER SCRUTINY, Somalis belong to the high risk group who practice the cult of slice and dice, not ethnic Swedes. It’s a stupid decision by the court and the end result is that more girls are going to get clipped because of it.
