Too many ‘happy white people’? Hungarian city outraged at exclusion from EU culture contest

A Hungarian city’s bid to become the European Union’s next “Capital of Culture” was allegedly rejected by EU officials because its video entry showed too many smiling, dancing, white Christians, the city’s mayor says.

Székesfehérvár, Hungary’s ninth-largest city, submitted a short video as part of its entry for the 2023 European Capitals of Culture contest, a competition designed to “celebrate the cultural features Europeans share.” Featuring folk dancers, young couples, mothers, babies and even two elderly gentlemen playing chess in a park, the video was rejected. The EU panel of “independent experts in the field of culture” felt it had too many happy white people and not enough migrants, the city’s mayor Dr András Cser-Palkovics has claimed.

Speaking at a press conference after the panel’s ruling, Cser-Palkovics said that his city’s entry never received a fair hearing, and that the panel’s decision was purely political.

According to Cser-Palkovics, one member of the jury of “experts,” whom he identified as a Belgian politician, strongly disapproved of the promotional video, calling it a “propaganda film for white Christian Europe” in which “everyone is white, happy and dancing in the streets.”

He said that the panel criticized the film for leaving out “the poor and migrants” while having too many “crosses and churches.”

Unapologetic for the video’s content, Cser-Palkovics told Hungarian media that “we love our city with our temples and our crosses. We love being safe, calm, and that people can democratically confess their own values,” adding that he would push for a government inquiry into how the contest is managed.

“I would like to bring the matter before the general assembly and inform all members of the board about the style and content of the hearing as well as about practically denying our own culture.”

The judge who freed confessed killer Said Mechaquat after an appeal has publicly apologised to the family of the Moroccan-born migrant’s victim, Stefano Leo.

Judge Edmondo Barelli Innocenti, who is the president of the Court of Appeal in Turin, publicly apologised to Leo’s family, saying, “As a representative of the state I would like to apologise to the family of Stefano Leo,” but added, “I do not agree to say that the Court of Appeal is jointly responsible for the murder. We did what we had to do,” Il Giornalereports.

This “apology” comes after it was revealed that the Italian-Moroccan had been sentenced in June of 2016 to a year and six months in prison for aggravated assault on an ex-girlfriend.

In the wake of Brenton Tarrant’s massacre at mosques in New Zealand, German Muslims insist they are in need of special protection.

Obama Recruits Qaradawi

The administration is working with a Muslim Brotherhood jurist.

The surrender is complete now. The Hindu reports that the Obama administration has turned to Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the Muslim Brotherhood’s leading jurist, to mediate secret negotiations between the United States and the Taliban.

I wrote about Qaradawi at length in The Grand Jihad and, here at NRO, have regularly catalogued his activities (see, e.g., here, here, here, here, and here; see also Andrew Bostom’s “Qaradawi’s Odious Vision”). For those who may be unfamiliar with him, he is the most influential Sunni Islamist in the world, thanks to such ventures as his al-Jazeera TV program (Sharia and Life) and website (IslamOnline.net). In 2003, he issued a fatwa calling for the killing of American troops in Iraq. As he put it,

Those killed fighting the American forces are martyrs given their good intentions since they consider these invading troops an enemy within their territories but without their will. . . . Although they are seen by some as being wrong, those defending against attempts to control Islamic countries have the intention of jihad and bear a spirit of the defense of their homeland.

Many rushed to shame the Times for welcoming  writer Nathan Thrall’s “propaganda.” But it isn’t just the propaganda or anti-Semitism that should concern Jews everywhere – it’s Nathan Thrall himself and his alarming ties to Qatar. A deep dive by the Free Beacon revealed that Thrall is employed by an organization that receives funding from the Qatari government and has ties to several anti-Israel and anti-Semitic activists.

What is really disturbing is that an executive order is necessary to enforce the 1st Amendment guarantee of free speech which is being abridged by college administrators.

Chemerinsky and Howard Gillman, the Chancellor of UC Irvine, penned a column for the Los Angeles Times at the end of March. In the column, Chemerinsky and Gillman argued that President Trump’s recent executive order on campus free speech is unconstitutional.

These creeps want to do away with the constitution.

University of California President Janet Napolitano said that the executive order was “unnecessary.”

“The executive order that President Trump signed today is unnecessary,” she wrote. “Like many higher education institutions across the country, the University of California is ground zero for robust exchanges of ideas and differing viewpoints.”

The university’s student government has agreed to vote on a resolution on Monday, April 8, to decide whether it will censor the conservative group.

Members of Texas State University’s student government introduced a resolution, entitled, the “Faculty and Student Safety Resolution of 2019” calling on the “immediate removal and barring of Turning Point USA from Texas State University and suggest[ed] protecting minority and marginalized populations from their negative campus influence.”

Muslim cleric: “Jihadist doctrine can be traced to specific tenets of orthodox, authoritative Islam”

“The senior member of the world’s biggest Muslim organisation has insisted that Islamophobia is not rooted in racism and that the distrust of Muslims in many countries is a result of Islamist extremism and terrorism throughout the world…..He called for a rejection of Islamic orthodoxy, condemning it as ‘obsolete and problematic’ and ‘fuelling violence on both sides.’”

Yahya Cholil Staquf further stated that the All-Party Parliamentary Group on British Muslims was wrong to link the word “Islamophobia” to racism: “The truth, we recognise, is that jihadist doctrine, goals and strategy can be traced to specific tenets of orthodox, authoritative Islam and its historic practice.”

The concept of “anti-Muslim bigotry” is actual; the term “Islamophobia” is intended to silence critics of that jihadist doctrine. Yahya Cholil Staquf has had the courage to identify jihadist violence as stemming from Islamic tradition and teachings.
