A man named Grafton Thomas attacked a Hanukah celebration in New York City with a machete, wounding at least five people. Meanwhile, a gunman entered a church in Texas, shooting one person dead and wounding another before being shot dead by a congregant.

MONSEY, N.Y. (AP) — A knife-wielding man stormed into a rabbi’s home and stabbed five people as they celebrated Hanukkah in an Orthodox Jewish community north of New York City, an ambush the governor said Sunday was an act of domestic terrorism fueled by intolerance and a “cancer” of growing hatred in America.

Police tracked a fleeing suspect to Manhattan and made an arrest within two hours of the attack Saturday night in Monsey. Grafton E. Thomas had blood all over his clothing, smelled of bleach but said “almost nothing” when officers stopped him, officials said.

An automated license plate reader alerted officers that the suspect’s car had crossed over the George Washington Bridge into New York City about an hour after the attack. Thomas was stopped and taken into custody about 20-30 minutes later, NYPD commissioner Dermot Shea said.

Germany: A “Latent Sense Of Insecurity”

“At least since the events at the Cologne cathedral square on New Year’s Eve in 2015 people apparently feel more and more unsafe,” said Oliver Malchow, the chairman of one of Germany’s two largest police unions. He was referring to the mass sexual assaults committed mainly by Arab and North African men at the Cologne cathedral square on New Year’s Eve more than four years ago. Malchow was also referring to new statistics, which show that approximately 640,000 Germans now have licenses for gas pistols — a large increase since 2014, when around 260,000 people had such a license. A gas pistol fires loud blanks or tear gas cartridges and is only potentially lethal at extremely close range.

The new statistics, according to Malchow, showed a “latent sense of insecurity” in the population. The number of real firearms owned privately also reportedly increased in 2018 — by 27,000 over the previous year. In Germany now, 5.4 million firearms are privately owned, most of them rifles.

A recent annual poll, conducted in September, confirms Malchow’s estimate: Every year since 1992, R+V, Germany’s largest insurance firm, has been asking Germans what they fear most.“This year, for the first time,” according to a report in Deutsche Welle, “a majority said they were most afraid that the country would be unable to deal with the aftermath of the migrant influx of 2015”. Fifty-six percent of those polled said they were scared that the country would not be able to deal with the number of migrants. This September marked exactly four years since Chancellor Angela Merkel opened Germany’s borders and allowed in almost a million migrants. However, Ulrich Wagner, professor of social psychology at the University of Marburg told Deutsche Welle:

“It’s really got more to do with the fact that politicians and media discuss this issue a great deal — which triggers fear… For example, in the latest study, fear of terrorism has clearly gone down. We simply don’t discuss this issue as much as we used to, and that means that people feel safer.”

India’s tourism industry hit hard by citizenship law protests

About 200,000 domestic and international tourists have cancelled or postponed trips to Taj Mahal in last two weeks.

India’s tourism industry has been hit by a wave of violent anti-government protests across the country against a new citizenship law, with at least seven countries issuing travel warnings.

At least 25 people have been killed in clashes between police and protesters, and demonstrations against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which critics see as anti-Muslim.

The United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Israel, Singapore, Canada and Taiwan have issued travel advisories asking their citizens to either refrain from visiting or to exercise caution when visiting regions embroiled in India’s protests.

A plurality of people in Germany believes that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, is the biggest threat to world peace.

A recent poll found that forty-one per cent of Germans think President Trump is more dangerous than Russian president Vladimir Putin, or Kim Jong-un and Xi Jinping, who lead the communist regimes of North Korea and the People’s Republic of China.

Seventeen per cent said that the North Korean dictator was the biggest threat, followed by Russian President Vladimir and the Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei who both tied at eight per cent.

The President of China, Xi Jinping, was considered the least threatening with just 7 per cent listing the Chinese dictator as their biggest concern, despite his government’s nuclear arsenal and penchant for mass incarceration of dissidents and troublesome minorities.

Reports indicate African American male with machete stabbed five people. Pretty much every house in Monsey is House of Worship, it has large mostly Hasidic population.

Fifteen people reported stabbed in synagogue by man who burst in and pulled out a machete at a Hanukkah party before going on the run in upstate New York

The infidels must not be allowed to celebrate their high holidays. That offends the soldiers of allah.

An assailant stabbed multiple victims in a synagogue in the small upstate New York town of Monsey late on Saturday night, according to several social media reports.

Video circulating on Twitter shows emergency vehicles and ambulances hurriedly evacuating victims from a home on Forshay Road in Monsey.

That home is believed to be used as a house of worship.

One local report is claiming that an African American man armed with a machete stabbed at least 15 people after entering the synagogue.
