DOZENS of young Melbourne men are being investigated by police over suspected ties to the Iranian-backed terrorist network Hezbollah.

Victorian counter-terrorism authorities are analysing video footage and photographs taken at public meetings attended by Australian Muslims in support of the Shia organisation.

The Australian understands some of the images being examined are of men, predominantly in their 20s, waving Hezbollah banners and flags during protests in Melbourne last year against the 34-day war between Israel and Lebanon.

More than 50 men, largely of Lebanese heritage, are being monitored by the police, but none has been arrested or interviewed. It is understood some of the men are related.

Authorities are also believed to be investigating a possible Melbourne-based Hezbollah cell, suspected of propagating political ideologies and raising funds for its leadership in Lebanon.

Hezbollah’s military arm, the External Security Organisation, is a proscribed terrorist organisation in Australia.

Sources told The Australian police feared some Hezbollah backers were exploiting a loophole in Australia’s terror laws that allows political support for the organisation’s political arm.

The Australian revealed in June that Australia’s most senior Shia Muslim cleric, Kamal Mousselmani, had openly declared his support for Hezbollah, saying it was a “resistance group”, not a terrorist network.

The president of the Supreme Islamic Shia Council of Australia also said the nation’s 30,000 Shi’ites were avid supporters of Hezbollah and haters of Israel.

He said the goal of the West should not be to impose a representative democracy on the Islamic world but rather to support the rise of forces which uphold the same tenants of equality, freedom, and justice that the West holds so dear.

Dr. Fai reiterated that Islamic ideals teach universal values, all of which naturally extend out of the ethic of reciprocity. However under the spirit of peace and brotherhood, there are no limits to individual freedom as long as it does not lessen others basic rights or create disharmony in society.

The Self-Destructing Jihad

Threats of murder. Fears of riots and religious violence. Demands for censorship. Politicians in hiding, fearing for their lives. A government preparing for the worst.

It’s happening right now in a most unlikely place … the Netherlands, once regarded as Europe’s quietest and most stable nation.

And it’s all happening because of a 10-minute movie that hasn’t even been made yet.

It’s the work of Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders, who calls his movie “a call to shake off the creeping tyranny of Islamicization.” Wilders plans to present it to his country on television sometime next month.

“People who watch the movie will see that the Koran is very much alive today, leading to the destruction of everything we in the Western world stand for, which is respect and tolerance,” Wilders, the 41-year-old leader of the right-wing Party for Freedom, said in a telephone interview.

“The tsunami of Islamicization is coming to Europe. We should come to be far stronger.”

Four months ago, he called for the Koran to be outlawed in the Netherlands.

“I believe our culture is much better than the retarded Islamic cultures,” he told FOXNews.com in a telephone interview. “Ninety-nine percent of the intolerance in the world comes back to the Islamic religion and the Koran.”

Though he refuses to claim the mantle of van Gogh’s successor, Wilders clearly sees himself as continuing the controversial filmmaker’s work. He acknowledges the similarities between “Submission” and his own 10-minute work, about five minutes of which have been completed, he said.

“I have so much respect for van Gogh’s movie, aimed at one part of the Koran, women’s bodies, one very bad part of the Koran,” Wilders said. “I will use not only that theme but many others. Of course at the end it is a different movie.”

Though Wilders has remained steadfastly vague about the specific contents of his movie, saying he wants to maximize the “moment of the broadcast itself,” he added that it will include “images and parts of real-time movies that really happen in the Netherlands and the U.K. and the Middle East, the intolerance of the Koran that is still alive and vivid today.”

Wilders, said he’s working with professors who are experts on the Koran and Islamic culture, professional filmmakers and scriptwriters to complete his film, which he hopes to broadcast next month on “Nova,” a popular news program on Dutch public television. If “Nova” refuses to air the program, he said, he will broadcast the movie using the air time his political party is guaranteed by the government.

“The government is taking the announcement of this movie quite seriously,” said Floris van Hovell, a spokesman for the Dutch Embassy in Washington, D.C. “Obviously, because the movie hasn’t been made, we cannot say anything about the movie until the movie has been shown, but the message Mr. Wilders has told us he wants to portray is disturbing.”

Wilders’ rhetoric may have struck a chord among a part of the Dutch population. One poll suggests that if elections were held today, his Freedom Party would win 26 seats in the 150-seat Tweede Kamer — Holland’s House of Representatives — up from nine the party won last November.

Muslim reaction to Wilders’ film has been predictably less supportive. Some are calling for it to be outlawed before it is broadcast, and groups of both Muslims and non-Muslims have publicly denounced the film.

“I think he’s addicted to the attention of the media,” said Zainab al-Touraihi, secretary-general of the Contact Body for Muslims, the official Muslim advisory body to the Dutch government. “He’s doing it for political reasons, and I’m sure he’s getting more and more votes. And that’s the scary thing, actually.”

she said. “The Koran is a matter of interpretation, just like the Bible and the Torah. You need to interpret, not take it literally.”

Like all of their predecessors since 1948, the Bush administration has failed to learn the real reason behind that “Palestinian Terror Machine”, which is Israel’s very existence. The Palestinian leaders will never be placated by Israeli concessions. What they want, and have wanted since Israel came into being, is Israel’s destruction. As Yasser Arafat said in 1974, ten days before addressing the U.N.:

“We shall never stop (killing Jews) until we can go back home and Israel is destroyed. The goal of our struggle is the end of Israel and there can be no compromise or mediations. We do not want peace we want victory. Peace for us means Israel’s destruction, and nothing else.” (emphasis added)

Bush, Rice, and everyone else in the State Department need to study Arafat’s words.

And the corruption comes, as so often in Israel, from the fact that Israeli political figures are paid so poorly, but do make friends among those deep-pocked “Friends of Israel” who, living safely abroad, and having even less understanding of the situation than the muddle-headed Israelis, who have managed to avoid thinking seriously about Islam, and what it means for their survival, or a strategy that makes sense, to make that survival more rather than less likely. Take Olmert’s friend Daniel Abraham, for example. Oh, like so many “Friends of Israel,” it is enough for him to be a “Friend of Israel” even if he knows nothing about Islam, and furthermore doesn’t know the legal, moral, and historic claims of the Jews to the land they currently possess (including the “West Bank”), has not studied the Mandate for Palestine or what lay behind it, knows nothing of the demographic and cadastral records for that area under the Ottomans, has not a clue about what a “dhimmi” is or how many Jews endured that status, under Muslim rule, in the Middle East and North Africa. In short, merely a successful businessman who, being Jewish, and being, as he sees it, “pro-Israel,” presumes to have opinions, and with his money, buys himself entree into the ruling circles of Israel. In this case, it happpens to be Olmert. It is difficult for Israel’s mostly mediocre leaders, living in a land where Robert Frost’s definition of a “liberal” as someone “who takes the other fellow’s side in a quarrel” applies to so many, except that the “quarrel” in question is not merely some dispute over a cow pasture or what a stone wall demarcates between two hardscrabble farms in Coos County (pardon the absence of the diacritical mark over the second “o”), but rather Israel’s very survival.

And the failure of Israel’s leaders to know or make their case, and their even greater failure to understand the Islam that explains the relentlessness, and the never-to-be-assuaged permanence of what is not, and never was, a “quarrel” about the “legimiate rights” of the (recently-invented) “Palestinian people” but, rather, about whether that tiny Infidel nation-state is going to survive, which requires not the impossible — a change in the worldview that Islam inculcates — but the entirely possible, a situation in which Israel’s military superiority is maintained, and so clearly that the surrounding rulers have an excuse not to make open war, and meanwhile Israel, along with the rest of the West, recognizing the demographic conquest from within, acts to halt and reverse it — which can be done.

And if Israel elects leaders who discuss the texts and tenets of Islam openly, and how they relate (how, for god’s sake, the Treaty of Al-Hudaibiyya relates to all treaty-making between Israel and any Muslim Arabs), that will encourage those in Western Europe to do likewise.

And, of course, vice-versa.

Barbara Plett! Lyse Doucet! and a cast of hundreds!), The Guardian, Robert Fisk wherever he manages to place his nasty mythomanic stuff, Le Monde (especially in the days of Eric Rouleau, as long as Peroncel-Hugoz was kept muffled), Agence France-Presse, and in so many other places, in so many other countries, where those who needed an acceptable outlet for their….peculiar pathology found it, and then some.

‘Zionists”

Nicholas Roddis, 22, of Reedham Drive, Bramley, was told he will face trial at Leeds Crown Court on 30 June next year.

The son of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, who supported and helped to train Thai separatist bandits in the 1970s, visited Bangkok and “expressed concerns” about the government’s treatment of Muslims.

Saif al-Islam, the son and heir-apparent of Gadhafi, was in Bangkok on Tuesday as a guest of the government.

Officials said he “sought clarification” from former coup leader and Deputy Prime Minister for security Gen Sonthi Boonyaratkalin about the situation in the troubled South.

Many of the groups in the South were fomented and supported by Gadhafi during the 1970s, especially the dominant anti-government group Patani United Liberation Organisation, known as Pulo. Al-Islam’s father gave sanctuary to Pulo leaders when they were first wanted for murder and terrorism.

Reports said that the Libyan asked Gen Sonthi if Thai-Muslims, who make up 80 per cent of the population in the deep South, comprising Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala provinces, had been properly treated, according to an official who attended the meeting.

General Sonthi, the former army commander-in-chief who led last year’s coup d’etat against ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, assured al-Islam that the conflict ‘had nothing to do with religion.’
