Germany: 2 Arrested in Bombing Plot

The authorities announced Friday that they had arrested two men, a German citizen of Afghan heritage and a Turk, accused of being linked to a bombing plot that shockedÂ GermanyÂ last year, because of the scale of explosive chemicals seized and the fact that German converts to Islam were involved. Federal prosecutors said in a statement that the German, Omid Shirkhani, had visited a training camp near the Afghan-Pakistani border run by the terrorist groupÂ Islamic JihadÂ Union. Mr. Shirkhani is suspected of being a member of the group. The Turkish citizen, Huseyin Ozgun, was accused of providing support to the organization; he was said to have been detained by Pakistani authorities on his way to an Islamic Jihad Union camp. The men were arrested in the Frankfurt area on Thursday, after Mr. Shirkhani tried to leave the country, according to a senior German law enforcement official.

Police knew Benbrika, 48, had made inquiries about getting chemicals to make a massive bomb.

The armed Palestinian groups in Gaza have recently stepped up their military training amid what they refer to as the threat of a wide-scaleÂ IsraeliÂ operation in the Strip.

Â In this framework dozens of children have undergone training in the past few days by gunmen from the Salah al-Din Brigades, the armed wing of the Popular Resistance Committees. The training included firing pistols and rifles.

Â “I am learning how to fight the Jews and kill Jewish children,” 11-year-old Muhammad told Ynet, “the parents of the Jewish children are the soldiers and officers who kill us here. I want these parents to get a taste of what it’s like to have your children killed, just as the Palestinians experience every day.

Christian group vow to ‘execute’ Muslim rebels terrorists in Philippines

A Philippine Christian vigilante group warned yesterday that it will start executing 10 Muslim rebels for every civilian killed, as violence in the south of the country intensifies.

The Reform Ilaga Movement, dormant for decades after gaining prominence in the 1970s during the early stages of the rebellion, have again been in the spotlight in the face of a new campaign by Muslim rebels.

Rebels Muhammedan headbangers last week killed scores of people in attacks on Christian villages and towns in fighting that has intensified since a breakdown in talks to end the insurgency by creating a semi-autonomous Muslim region.Â Â

“If the fighting continues, for every civilian killed, we will execute 10 Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels,” said Mike Santiago, a spokesman for the vigilante movement.

“We are for arming civilians in areas targeted by MILF and for them to defend their families and property,” he told reporters in his hideout camp in the south of the country.

The Philippine military has attacked Muslim rebels holed up in Catholic farmlands in the south prompting hundreds to flee their homes.

Security officials say at least one soldier was killed and several others were injured during renewed clashes.

The interior ministry says the rebels had torched houses, looted farms and caused more than 6,500 people to abandon their homes and farms.
