The very people who in 1989 were demanding the murder of Salman Rushdie for writing a book are today leading the charge against Geert Wilders for making a (short) film. The fundamental difference is that 20 years ago, the government supported free speech; today, it has cravenly surrendered. It is simply not good enough to say that Wilders should not be heard because he might provoke a backlash from those who do not like him or his views. That is not upholding the law. The refusal to admit the oddball Dutch MP Geert Wilders to Britain yesterday marks a further retreat from this country’s traditions of free speech. It stands in stark contrast to what happened exactly 20 years ago tomorrow, when Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran issued a fatwa calling for the death of Salman Rushdie for insulting the Prophet Mohammed in his book The Satanic Verses.

The Home Secretary Jaqui Smith who barred Wilders entry (see letter) has renamed Islamic terrorism ‘anti-Islamic activity‘ and  has welcomed the most violent Islamic radicals while simultaneously banning Jews.

Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders, in a text message, tells the Associated Press he will be returning to Holland within the hour after arrest.

Mr Wilders told The Times on the flight that the British Government was “the biggest bunch of cowards in Europe”. ”It is easy to invite people you agree with, it is more difficult to invite people you disagree with and this is the proof of the pudding,” he said.

“I am going to Great Britain because I was invited by another politician (Lord Pearson of Rannoch). I am a democrat, I am serving freedom of speech. They are not only being nasty to me they are being nasty to freedom of speech.

He added: “They (the British government) are more Chamberlain than Churchill.”
At 2.20pm Mr Wilders was escorted through UK immigration by two plain-clothed officers from the UK border agency.

Guess which is banned from Britain?

Britain has banned Dutch politician Geert Wilders as a threat, on the grounds that its imported Islamists will be violent if they see him: Let’s get this straight: A Dutch politician is banned from Britain not because he’s violent himself, but because theIslamists that have been welcomed to Britain could tear the joint apart.

              

“Lord” Ahmed:  “It would be unwise to have him in the UK because this man’s presence would cause hatred”-  Lord Ahmed, who said other Muslim peers shared his concerns, stressed that Mr Wilders’ views would certainly present a threat to public order.

“When Muslims are attacked obviously you will see people react to that.”

Britain Capitulates To Terror

If anyone had doubted the extent to which Britain has capitulated to Islamic terror, the banning of Geert Wilders a few hours ago should surely open their eyes. Wilders, the Dutch member of parliament who had made an uncompromising stand against the Koranic sources of Islamist extremism and violence, was due to give a screening of Fitna, his film on this subject, at the House of Lords on Thursday. This meeting had been postponed after Lord Ahmed had previously threatened the House of Lords authorities that he would bring a force of 10,000 Muslims to lay siege to the Lords if Wilders was allowed to speak. To their credit, the Lords authorities had stood firm and said extra police would be drafted in to meet this threat and the Wilders meeting should go ahead.

Whether Mr. Wilders has deliberately insulted Muslim people is for the judges to decide. But for a man who calls for a ban on the Koran to act as the champion of free speech is a bit rich.

Then Charles Johnson said it yesterday at the once-worthwhile site Little Green Footballs (no link, as the adolescent Johnson has blocked links from this site), as he continued to libel anti-jihadists with false charges of “smelly fascist associations”:

However, Wilders himself does not deserve to be called an icon of free speech, since he explicitly wants to ban the Koran and make Islam illegal in Europe; in other words, he wants to take away other people’s freedom of speech and freedom of religion, and that is simply wrong. Book banning is what totalitarians do, not believers in free speech.

therefore public security in the UK.

You are advised that should you travel to the UK and seek admission  
an Immigration Officer will take into account the Secretary of  
State’s view. If, in accordance with regulation 21 of the immigration  
(European Economic Area) Regulations 2006, the Immigration Officer is  
statisfied that your exclusion is justified on grounds of public  
policy and/or public security, you will be refused admission to the  
UK under regulation 19. You would have a right of appeal against any  
refusal of admission, exercisable from outside the UK.

WTF? Dutch MP Wilders refused entry to UK

Dutch Right-wing politician and controversial anti-Islam campaigner Geert Wilders has been refused entry to the United Kingdom despite being invited to visit by a member of the House of Lords, the British parliament’s upper chamber.

                              

Update: The matter was decided in Great Britain by the -execrable-  British minister of justice Jack Straw, because it concerns internal security. For this reason minister Ernst Hirsch Balin (CDA) of justice will get in touch with Straw.

* Who could forget the sniffling, groveling Jack-(ass) Straw who owes his seat to the Muslim vote! A maggot in human form!

                            

Note to Brits: It’s not Wilders you should be keeping out of England, it’s the Muslims that want to take over your country!

Mr Wilders responded to the decision in fighting mood, telling Dutch media that he still intended to travel to London:“I’ll see what happens at the border. Let them put me in handcuffs.”

Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen’s response was also firm. He contacted his UK counterpart, David Miliband, by telephone and voiced his dissatisfaction that a member of the Dutch parliament – Geert Wilders is in fact also the leader of a political grouping, the Freedom Party – has been prohibited from entering a fellow European Union member state.

Geert Wilders, perhaps best known outside the Netherlands for having made the video Fitna, in which the religion Islam and its holy book the Qu’ran are attacked as providing a basis for terrorist attacks and for the undermining of western democracy and values, had been invited to London for a showing of this film to members of the British parliament.

Giving a somewhat modern technological twist to this diplomatic tiff, Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen used the internet social networking and communications site Twitter to announce that he had phoned his counterpart David Miliband to complain about the British decision to refuse entry to Geert Wilders. 

The invitation to do so was extended to the controversial Dutch politician by a member of the unelected House of Lords. 

Regrettable
Mr Verhagen commented regarding the showing of Fitna in the British parliament that this was a matter for the House of Lords to decide on, but added: “the fact that a Dutch parliamentarian is refused entry to another EU country is highly regrettable.”

Geert Wilders was initially to have shown his video to the British parliament in January, but those plans were cancelled following fierce protests from the UK’s Muslim community.

* Once again: smears of “right wing” and skewed reporting: it was the excremental, abominable token Muslim with the title of “Lord” Ahmed who threatened parliament that he would activate 10.000 Muslim protesters, not “fierce protests from the Muslim community”…..

Wilders re-invited to speak at the House of Lords!

The House of Lords recovers its spine.

(not so sure about that one, but lets see! If they had a spine they would take “Lord Ahmed’ by the short and curlies and throw him back in the sewers he crawled out of)

Wilders had been invited to screen Fitna before the House of Lords, but was then disinvited. In “The intimidation of the House of Lords,” February 3, the incomparable Melanie Phillips (thanks to Pamela, who has more on Lord Ahmed) explains why, and what happened next:

But various representatives of the British Muslim community protested; and Lord Ahmed issued a threat that he would personally mobilise 10,000 Muslims to prevent Wilders from entering the Upper House and would take the peer organising the event to court. In the face of such threats, the meeting was cancelled. Lord Ahmed then boasted of his victory in the Pakistani media. The Associated Press of Pakistan reported him exulting in  

“a victory for the Muslim community.”

Fitzgerald: Ignoramus Ian Buruma accuses Geert Wilders of "hatred and ignorance"

* Perhaps we should mention that Buruma is a writer of worthless fiction. He would be well advised to stick to that genre… His interview in the NYT published February 4, 2007 with Tariq Ramadan shows that he is clueless  about Islam and the agenda of the Muslim Brotherhood. But what do you expect from the New Duranty Times?

The vicious abuse of the word “hatred” to shut down debate:

                      

Ian Buruma, who has been given to some remarkable pronouncements on Islam, published on Friday a remarkable article in The New York Times on Geert Wilders. The article, “Totally Tolerant, Up To A Point,” was intended essentially to blacken the name of Geert Wilders, to present him – for likening the Qur’an to Mein Kampf – as, by contamination, a Nazi himself, and to present the attempt to censor him, by Dutch authorities as, therefore, a perfectly understandable, even laudable thing.

Here’s how Buruma does it. He starts with the word “hatred”:

“If it were not for his hatred of Islam, Geert Wilders would have remained a provincial Dutch parliamentarian of little note.”

Geert Wilders, you see, is not only a “hater” – the theme comes up again and again, without a single example being offered of a single bit of the Qur’an or Hadith that Geert Wilders might be said to “hate” – but he’s also a self-promoter, riding right into a life of fame, riches, and so on, on the back of his “hatred of Islam.”

“You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,” said Barack Obama to Republican leaders Friday. The new president seems to want to make sure that as few people listen to Rush Limbaugh as possible. Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY) warned Thursday that “legislation is brewing on Capitol Hill that would take away free speech from broadcasters by reinstating a law” — the infamous “Fairness Doctrine” — “that would require talk shows to provide equal time coverage of opposing viewpoints on any issues they discuss.”
