HE cold-blooded daylight execution of drug boss Abdul Qadier Darwiche will inevitably lead to more bloodshed, a senior police source warned yesterday.

The shooting death of the 37-year-old has thrown a major criminal syndicate into disarray, with police warning retribution was likely to follow “within months”.

“The fact is, if (Darwiche’s gang) are going to remain major players in the crime game, they’re going to have to reassert themselves . . . their boss has been killed, so it’s not a minor player and you can’t just say, ‘Give us $100,000 in blood money and we’ll call it quits’,” the source said yesterday.

“(Darwiche’s) crew has a huge problem now in terms of face and it’s also likely to encourage those who have been sitting on the sidelines to take advantage of the instability.”

If a non-Muslim points out that all the Islamic sects and schools of Islamic jurisprudence teach warfare against and the subjugation of unbelievers, Muslims in the West say that they’re insulted. But this is to say that they’re insulted by the truth, which suggests that in reality they are insulted that a non-Muslim would bring this truth to light when they would prefer to keep it concealed.

One of the canons of Islam is the first collection of quotes and anecdotes of Muhammad – the Sira – written by Ibn Ishaq and edited by Ibn Hisham, both pious Muslims. Along with the Hadith, it forms the source of much of what we know about Muhammad. Here is the first incident of forcible conversion to Islam that I have seen recorded in Islamic history. It happens immediately before Muhammad conquered Mecca. Muhammad’s adherents arrest Abu Sufyan, one of Mecca’s inhabitants who had rejected Muhammad’s claims of being a Prophet. They bring him to Muhammad. Ibn Hisham tells us what happens next, in “The Biography of Muhammad”(Part 4, Page 11)

Muhammad told him: “Woe to you, O Abu Sufyan. Is it not time for you to realize that there is no God but the only God?” Abu Sufyan answered: “I do believe that.” Muhammad then said to him: “Woe to you, O Abu Sufyan. Is it not time for you to know that I am the apostle of God?” Abu Sufyan answered: “By God, O Muhammad, of this there is doubt in my soul.” The ‘Abbas who was present with Muhammad told Abu Sufyan: “Woe to you! Accept Islam and testify that Muhammad is the apostle of God before your neck is cut off by the sword.” Thus he professed the faith of Islam and became a Muslim.”

Ill winds are blowing out of Washington these days. On Thursday, The Washington Post headline blared, “Intelligence Pick Blames ‘Israel Lobby’ for Withdrawal.”

The article, by Walter Pincus, described how former US ambassador to Saudi Arabia Charles “Chas” Freeman is blaming Israel’s Jewish American supporters for his resignation Tuesday from his post as chairman of the National Intelligence Council.

In a diatribe published on Foreign Policy‘s Web site on Wednesday, Freeman accused the alleged “Israel Lobby” of torpedoing his appointment. In his words, “The tactics of the Israel Lobby plumb the depths of dishonor and indecency… The aim of this Lobby is control of the policy process through the exercise of a veto over the appointment of people who dispute the wisdom of its views… and the exclusion of any and all options for decision by Americans and our government other than those that it favors.”
