What’s Turkey good for? Turkish army chief says U.S. ties at risk

Turkey is not an ‘ally’- just like Pakistan or Saudi Arabia can never be ‘allies’-, not in the absurdly named ‘WoT’ and not in any other way.

Fitzgerald: Note to the Turkish government

1) The Cold War, or at least the First Cold War, is over. It is no longer 1950, or 1960. There is no longer a need for Turkey’s help in confronting Russia, which, while it has reverted to unpleasantness and despotism, is not the menace it once was. And Turkey is not quite so important a place for listening-posts and other bases.

Lying scoundrels warn U.S. that they won’t be our friends if we won’t lie too

* We dhimmis are expected to lie about so much: Islam as a religion of peace, Muslim Spain as a proto-multicultural paradise of tolerance, the Turks as guiltless of genocide. Turkey’s powerful military chief said on Sunday if the U.S. Congress approved a resolution branding the 1915 killing of Armenians by Ottoman Turks genocide ties between the NATO allies would never be the same again.

Back to the article above:
Ankara is a crucial ally for Washington which relies on Turkey as a logistical base for the war in Iraq.

* No its not.

Some analysts believe the vote could weaken Washington’s influence over Turkey and increase the likelihood of a Turkish incursion into northern Iraq to crush Kurdish separatist rebels who use the territory to stage attacks into Turkey.

* Turkey has been planning this for a long time, regardless of US concerns…

“If the resolution that has passed in the U.S. committee is accepted by the assembly of the House of Representatives our military relations with the United States can never be the same again,” chief of General Staff, General Yasar Buyukanit, told newspaper Milliyet.

* Face up to the Armenian Genocide and stop prevaricating!

The top Democrat in the House of Representatives said on Sunday she intended to press ahead with the resolution, despite White House concerns it would damage relations with Turkey.

“I said if it passed the committee that we would bring it to the floor,” House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in an interview on ABC television’s “This Week.”

The Turkish government is to seek approval from parliament this week for a major operation against separatist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants based in the Iraqi mountains.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Saturday she had urged the Turkish government to refrain from any major military operation in northern Iraq. U.S. officials fear such a move could destabilize a relatively peaceful area of Iraq.

Turkish artillery fired seven to eight shells into a village in northern Iraq late on Saturday, witnesses said, the latest bout of shelling of the mountainous border area where separatist guerrillas are believed to hide out.

AMBASSADOR RECALLED

Ankara recalled its ambassador from the United States for consultations after the U.S. congressional committee vote, which was condemned in predominantly Muslim but secular Turkey.

* Turkey is 99% Muslim, that is not ‘predominantly’- 99% means entirely, and Islam is on the march.

The House of Representatives is due to vote on the symbolic measure, sponsored by a California lawmaker whose district has a large Armenian-American constituency, by mid-November.

Republicans on Sunday called on Pelosi to block the measure.

U.S. President George W. Bush voiced his concerns last week, saying: “This resolution is not the right response to these historic mass killings, and its passage would do great harm to our relations with a key ally in NATO and in the global war on terror.”

* Really? It might just help the Turks to show their true colors. It might help to cure some delusions in the Bush government.

* The use of the base was already denied during the Iraq war. And what are joint military exercises with an Islamic nation good for?

“I’m the chief of General Staff. I deal with security issues, I’m not a politician … in this respect the United States has shot itself in the foot,” Buyukanit said.

Turkey rejects the Armenian position, backed by many Western historians and some foreign parliaments, that up to 1.5 million Armenians suffered genocide at the hands of Ottoman Turks.

Turkey says many Muslim Turks died alongside Christian Armenians in inter-ethnic conflict in World War One.

Patriarch Mesrob II, the Istanbul-based spiritual leader of Turkey’s Armenians, was quoted by state-run Anatolian news agency as saying his community opposed the U.S. bill. He has long called for dialogue to deal with past injustices.

* The patriarch is a good dhimmi. He doesn’t dare to rock the boat.

Two senior U.S. officials visited Ankara on Saturday for talks with Turkish officials to try to ease tensions.

US military to investigate claims Koran burnt in Afghanistan

That sux.

Oh brother. Here comes another round of politically correct BS investigations of US soldiers, in a futile attempt to appease a Dark Ages mentality—because of allegations that a book was mistreated: US military to investigate claims Koran burnt in Afghanistan.

ASADABAD, Afghanistan (AFP) — The US military said it would investigate claims that its soldiers had burnt a copy of the Koran in Afghanistan, as angry locals demanded action and threatened retaliation.

Allegations that troops tore up and burnt the Muslim holy book during a raid in the eastern province of Kunar on Saturday led several hundred villagers to demonstrate the same day, blocking a main road for hours.

Locals repeated the charges at a heated meeting Sunday in the provincial capital Asadabad of representatives of the US military, Afghan officials and more than a dozen men from the area near the raid site in Narang district.

“You have desecrated our religion,” resident Azim Khan told the US delegation.

“If the perpetrators do not apologise to Afghans and to all the Muslims of the world, and if they are not brought to justice and punished for what they have done, we will stand against you, you will see an uprising,” he said.

US Captain Jason Coughenour said the allegations would be treated seriously.

“We respect your religion,” he said. “We will launch an investigation and find out who has burnt the Koran. If it has been done by an American, we will punish him.”

The US-led coalition on Saturday confirmed the raid in which four men were arrested but denied that any religious articles were desecrated.

Afghanistan is a deeply devout country and allegations of abuse of Islam have in the past touched off protests that have turned deadly.

And no one even questions why “deeply devout” people would be so prone to rage, threats, violence, and murder. Instead we bow and scrape, and accept their demands to conduct a witch hunt, among the very troops who are risking their lives trying to save Afghanistan from reverting to a hellhole.

That sux. That really sux…

“The Americans are very ignorant about us Islamists”

Yes, they are, but probably not in the way Sheikh Ali Bapir thinks. The main way they’re ignorant is that here we have an Iraqi warlord explaining how he studied the Qur’an and Islam, and is ready to wage a war of ideas, while American TV talking heads (both the “liberal” and the “conservative” one) go out of their way to make sure that everyone understands that the equation of Islam and violence is offensive, and that in any case guys like this Sheikh are purveying a “twisted version of Islam.” Yet I doubt that Sheikh Ali Bapir, if he were to see this clip, would find it daunting. He knows a lot more about Islam than either Alan Colmes or Sean Hannity, and he is secure in his knowledge that he is following the correct religious path.

Shockingly, our reporters have discovered an even more serious breach of protocol by CNN’s Blanderson Pooper.

LGF:

CNN, ever mindful of the need for jihadis to be able to locate the artists and writers who “defame Islam,” has revealed the “safe house” of Swedish artist Lars Vilks.

However, as Allahpundit notes, CNN isn’t entirely to blame—since they filmed with the permission of Vilks himself. AP also has screenshots of CNN’s ridiculous, cowardly blurring of Vilks’ dreaded roundabout dog of blasphemy drawing.

CNN airs footage of home, safe house of artist marked for death by Al Qaeda

What’s going on here? After the disgraceful western media blackout of the Danish cartoons, CNN obviously felt it had to make some gesture towards showing the viewers the offending work. But not only did they NOT have the balls to show the offending part, they were sufficiently worried about being accused of, ahem, “Islamophobia” for the part that they did show that they went ahead and put up the drawing of Christ — which has nothing to do with the threat to Vilks — just to prove that they’re equal opportunity offenders. Fantastically lame.

Jihad:

JIHAD IS A CENTRAL DUTY of every Muslim. Modern Muslim theologians have spoken of many things as jihads: the struggle within the soul, defending the faith from critics, supporting its growth and defense financially, even migrating to non-Muslim lands for the purpose of spreading Islam. But in Islamic history and doctrine violent jihad is founded on numerous verses of the Qur’an — most notably, one known in Islamic theology as the “Verse of the Sword”: “Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is forgiving, merciful” (Sura 9:5). Establishing “regular worship” and paying the “poor-due” (zakat) means essentially that they will become Muslim, as these are two of the central responsibilities of every Muslim.

Sahih Bukhari, which Muslims regard as the most trustworthy of all the many collections of traditions of Muhammad, records this statement of the Prophet: “Allah assigns for a person who participates in (holy battles) in Allah’s Cause and nothing causes him to do so except belief in Allah and in His Messengers, that he will be recompensed by Allah either with a reward, or booty (if he survives) or will be admitted to Paradise (if he is killed in the battle as a martyr).”

Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406), a pioneering historian and philosopher, was also a legal theorist. In his renowned Muqaddimah, the first work of historical theory, he notes that “in the Muslim community, the holy war is a religious duty, because of the universalism of the Muslim mission and (the obligation to) convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force.” In Islam, the person in charge of religious affairs is concerned with “power politics,” because Islam is “under obligation to gain power over other nations.”

Violent jihad is a constant of Islamic history. The passages quoted above and many others like them form a major element of the motivation of jihad warriors worldwide today. No major Muslim group has ever repudiated the doctrines of armed jihad. The theology of jihad, with all its assumptions about unbelievers‚ lack of human rights and dignity, is available today as a justification for anyone with the will and the means to bring it to life.

Jihad Watch is dedicated to bringing public attention to the role that jihad theology and ideology play in the modern world and to correcting popular misconceptions about the role of jihad and religion in modern-day conflicts. By shedding as much light as possible on these matters, we hope to alert people of good will to the true nature of the present global conflict.

It means that they derive sexual pleasure from a girl aged two, three, or four.

Govt has no plans to ban Muslim scarfs

The federal government says it has no plans to ban the wearing of Islamic scarfs at Australian airports.

News Ltd papers reported on Sunday Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews’ office was considering prohibiting Muslim air travellers from wearing the hijab, burqa and other types of concealing scarfs, for security reasons.

The various traditional scarves are worn by Muslim women to cover their face, hair and neck.

“I can say that the minister’s office is absolutely not considering any such plan,” a spokeswoman for Mr Andrews said.

She said she did not believe the proposal was being considered by any federal government minister.

France sparked anger among its Muslim population in 2004 when it banned Islamic headscarves from schools.

Muslim slaughtering

By TIM EVANS
The Indianapolis Star

HAZELWOOD, Ind. – The sun is just beginning to peek over the horizon, but a crowd has already gathered at Tom Prince’s farm.

It’s an international group; a half-dozen languages echo in Prince’s metal-sided barn as a man kneels over a bleating goat and says a brief Muslim prayer, then cuts the animal’s throat with a swift slash using a long, sharp knife.

It’s hard to imagine a more unlikely scene – in Indiana or just about anywhere else in the U.S. – than the early morning gatherings that take place here.

Since 1999, Prince has operated a self-service slaughterhouse 20 miles west of Indianapolis, specializing in providing goat meat to the area’s growing international community.

His card reads ‘‘You Buy – You Kill – You Dress – You Take Home,” and business is booming.

The 80-year-old Prince holds court inside the spotless facility from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday and Saturday, selling about 50 goats each weekend. In the weeks before Muslim and other religious holidays, sales often double.

Prince speaks in a slow Southern drawl. It’s decidedly domestic compared to the array of languages spoken by customers who have made their way to central Indiana from Morocco, Yemen, Nigeria, Eritrea, Togo, Kenya, Pakistan, Mexico and other places around the globe where goat is a dietary staple.

‘‘I never thought I’d know so many people from different countries,” said Prince, who developed his taste for goat – often said to taste like a sweet mix of beef and pork – as a child in rural Tennessee during the Depression.

* Its all good because its multiculti:

‘We get a lot of fathers out here teaching their sons things they learned from their fathers and grandfathers,” said Hadley. ‘‘It’s really neat to see all these people keeping their … cultural traditions alive.”

‘Progressive’  Tunisia Returns To Hijabbed Future

Islamo-logic at work: Prohibiting the veil interferes with personal liberties and threatens the freedom of religion”-

* Trouble is that there is no freedom either from religion or under Islam.

niqab.jpg

ANSAmed) – TUNIS, OCTOBER 12 – The ruling of a Tunisian court on the issue of the “Islamic veil” risks to make one of the most developed Maghreb countries in terms of women’s rights regress by fifty years.

The court annulled a circular from 1986, which prohibited the use of veil, “because,” the ruling read “it interferes with personal liberties and threatens the freedom of religion”,

representatives of a human rights association told press agency Apanews, cited by weekly newspaper Jeune Afrique. Habib Bourguiba, leader of the struggle for independence and the first president of the Tunisian Republic (from 1957 to 1987) was the first to prohibit the veil in the public administration, as well advising Tunisian women not to wear it in public.

According to circular 108, Tunisian women were not allowed to wear veils in schools and work places, as they were considered “sectarian accessories” and a sign of religious and political extremism. In the last 15 years thousands of girls and women were dismissed from work or expelled from school because of the veil. The court which annulled the provision ruled that the “law interferes in the personal liberties and threatens the freedom of religion”. According to Apanews, the sentence was received with joy by conservators, while the left-wing circles immediately expressed their concern. About a year ago representatives of the government also expressed their opinion on the discussed circular, recommending that “it is concretely implemented”. Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, in particular, insisted on the slight difference which exists in “the Tunisian traditional wear, like women’s foulard” and the sectarian, intrusive and brought from the outside ones, like the veil and the tunic, which introduce obscurantism and are thus dangerous”. Tunisiàs Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in turn, defined the veil “a political slogan, used by a political faction which hides behind religion to realize political projects”. After yesterday’s ruling, however, no comment came from Tunisiàs Ministry of Foreign Affairs, probably because today national holiday Aid el Fitr is celebrated, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan and which gives the start of three festive days during which offices, stores and schools are closed and the publishing of newspapers is suspended.

Four Die in Restive Southern Thailand

Because the inner struggle never stops.

Malaysia Sun

Four people have been killed in Thailand as Thai Muslims attended celebrations for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr.

Eid marks the end of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Police say suspected Islamic rebels killed four people and wounded two others as the festival got underway in southern Thailand.

* ‘Islamic rebels?’ Is that politically correct? So they are not rebels without a cause?

Three Muslims were killed late Friday after militants shot at a car in Yala, an extreme rebel province bordering Malaysia.

In nearby Narathiwat province, a 47-year-old Buddhist man was gunned down in a drive-by shooting, while his 50-year-old brother was seriously injured.

More than 2,600 people have been killed since separatist unrest erupted in January 2004 in the mainly Muslim provinces of the south.

* What offends even more than stupidity by talk-shop jockey’s is the Islamofascism right out of the Koran and the sunnah, the war manual of the Muhammedans:

Koran 8:7 “Allah wished to confirm the truth by His words: ‘Wipe the infidels out to the last.’”

Koran 8:12 “Your Lord inspired the angels with the message: ‘I am with you. Give firmness to the Believers. I will terrorize the unbelievers. Therefore smite them on their necks and every joint and incapacitate them. Strike off their heads and cut off each of their fingers and toes.”

Koran 8:39 “So, fight them till all opposition ends and the only religion is Islam.”

Koran 8:59 “The infidels should not think that they can get away from us. Prepare against them whatever arms and weaponry you can muster so that you may terrorize them. They are your enemy and Allah’s enemy.”

Koran 9:5 “When the sacred forbidden months for fighting are past, fight and kill disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, beleaguer them, and lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war.”

Koran 9:29 “Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.”

Bali Bombers ready to die

Or so they say:

The three death row Bali bombers say they are ready to die and won’t be asking for a presidential pardon.

They also expressed delight at the recent controversy surrounding their impending executions, saying the more pain they cause the greater their reward in heaven.

“I’m very happy especially after hearing that John Howard is very regretful, very angry with us,” the so-called smiling assassin, Amrozi bin Nurhasyim said today at the island prison where he is held.

“The more he is angry, the more I will get rewards from god, right?

“The more I make infidels angry, the more I will get my reward, so I’m more relaxed.”

Islamic militants Amrozi, his elder brother Ali Ghufron (alias Mukhlas) and Imam Samudra were today briefly let out of their isolation cells at Batu Prison, on the island of Nusakambangan in Central Java, to pray for the holy Islamic day Idul Fitri.

They walked the 100 metres to the prison mosque, At-Taubah, unshackled, in their best robes, to pray with other inmates – murderers, terrorists and drug dealers – for today’s holiday which marks the end of the fasting month Ramadan.

amrozi_narrowweb__300×4310.jpg

Amrozi

The three key players in the bombings remain unrepentant, although they apologised to Muslim victims of the terrorist attacks, to mark the holy day, in which Muslims traditionally apologise for their wrongs.

“We apologise for the victims of the Bali bombings, but the Muslims,” Samudra said.

“The infidels will go to hell anyway.”

“No, no, no there won’t be any clemency because its not Islamic law – that is part of democracy and the law of democracy, and we are totally against democracy.”

More

Robert Spencer comments:

So says the Imam Samudra, not me. Of course, the learned analysts will say that the Imam Samudra doesn’t understand his own religion, which is actually quite easily compatible with democracy. Perhaps that is so, but the learned analysts continue to posit it as an established fact, without ever bothering actually to establish it. Meanwhile, Muslims who agree with the Imam Samudra continue relatively unimpeded to make recruits among peaceful Muslims.

And in the West, the learned analysts don’t even allow “Islamic” to be used in conjunction with “terrorism” or “Fascism,” as if it is non-Muslim Westerners who have made the equation, when actually it is Muslims who have done so.

Sharia inch by inch

“Cultural jihad” is alive and well in America.

Muslim leaders and organizations here in the U.S. call for the overthrow of our constitutional form of government and refuse to denounce jihad and terrorism, while leaders at all levels of our government bend over backwards to not only accommodate Islam but affirm Islam as a “religion of peace.” Dozens of American Muslim organizations are unindicted co-conspirators in the terrorist financing trial of the Holy Land Foundation. These Muslim leaders and organizations are not the “extremist fringe” of Islam in America — they are the mainstream of Islam in America!

Fitzgerald: Islam’s Trojan Horse, and what to do about it

trojan-horse.jpg

Misguided tolerance and the fifth column

Islam’s Trojan Horse is also to be seen in the Pentagon. There are within it American generals who have their Muslim aides. There are Saudi generals — you know, the kind who have never held a rifle in their lives, but are connected to the Al-Saud and thus to the arms buying that is the only way, or the easiest way, the Americans can think of to recycle those petrodollars.

The Trojan Horse can be seen in Congress, where Ellison (of Minnesota) and Meeks (of New York) and Eddie Johnson (of Texas) introduced and got passed a resolution to get the members of Congress to “commend” the world’s “1.5 billion” (!) Muslims for their celebration of Ramadan, phrasing the thing so that some Congressmen, if it came to a vote (it is now in committee) would undoubtedly simply sign it, thinking its easier to do so rather than not, and of course what’s the harm in praising, they will think, the “celebration of Ramadan”?

2007_10_11t065546_450×285_us_religion_scholars.jpg
LONDON (Reuters) – More than 130 Muslim scholars from around the globe called on Thursday for peace and understanding between Islam and Christianity, saying “the very survival of the world itself is perhaps at stake.”

Robert Spencer looks at the Koran verses that aren’t mentioned in the letter at Jihad Watch.
The dog that didn’t bark, if you will.

Here’s the letter in PDF form. Read it for yourself, and you deserve a medal if you make it through this turgid mess of Koran quotes.

* Melanie Phillips ain’t buying any:

Britain thrilled by offer to submit or die

The open letter from 138 Muslim scholars to the Pope and the leaders of other Christian churches on the subject of peace between the faiths has got the British establishment purring with pleasure. The Archbishop of Canterbury and the Bishop of London have fallen on their knees and given thanks.

A Common Word Between Us and You is a Call for Conversion

This is not the first time that some Muslim leaders have misrepresented the Quran to the West. Since 9/11 we have often been told that Quran says that if anyone killed one person, it would be as if he killed all of humanity. But that’s not quite what 5:35 of the Quran says. It is qualified by saying that this is so, “unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land.” The verse immediately following that says that “those who wage war against Allah and His Apostle, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land” must be punished with “execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land.”

Here are (some of) the missing links:

“9:29 Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Apostle, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued. ”
“9:30 The Jews call ‘Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah’s curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!”

9:111 Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in return) is the garden (of Paradise): they fight in His cause, and slay and are slain: a promise binding on Him in truth, through the Law, the Gospel, and the Qur’an: and who is more faithful to his covenant than Allah? then rejoice in the bargain which ye have concluded: that is the achievement supreme.

Andrew Bostom reviews Diana West’s superb new book in The Washington Times.

Jihad — as sanctioned by Islam’s core texts, the Koran, hadith and sira, and actualized by the Muslim prophet Muhammad himself — is the eternal, aggressive quest for totalitarian Islamic hegemony, i.e., the imposition of Islamic law, over the entire world, including via terrorism and genocide.

*

Quotes by Ayatollah Khomeini:

“Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious. “

* Nothing exposed the Arab mindset more than the following:

“When the Al Qaeda leader did what he did [on 11/09/01], polls in the Arab region showed he had the support of 85% of the population” – Abd Al-Hamid Al-Ansari, former dean of Islamic law, Qatar University, 22/07/04.

* So, from the above, it is hardly a handful of extremists we are up against. It is the lions’ share of a religion.

* And of course they claim they ‘love Muhammad more than their lives and their own children’- If that’s not Muhammad worship what is?

Today’s Koran Sura:

When we decide to destroy a population, we send a definite order to them who have the good things in life and yet sin. So that Allah’s word is proven true against them, then we destroy them utterly.”

Flashback:

Tancredo. A Leader Emerges:

Tancredo: “Whether…Israel existed or didn’t, whether or not we were in Iraq or not, they would be trying to kill us, because it is a dictate of their religion”
Last night in the Republican candidates’ debate Tom Tancredo said:

“My dear friend Ron here, I dearly love and really respect, but I’ll tell you: I just have to disagree with you, Ron, about the issue of whether … Israel existed or didn’t, whether or not we were in Iraq or not, they would be trying to kill us, because it is a dictate of their religion, at least a part of it. And we have to defend ourselves.”

Video: Undercover Mosque Update

British police decided not to pursue charges against any of the Islamic hate preachers exposed by the Channel 4 documentary “Dispatches: Undercover Mosque,” and instead reported Channel 4 to the UK’s media regulatory agency.

Here’s a video update on this saga of appalling dhimmitude.

The incompetence by the police, the appalling cowardice to take the ummah to account for the hate in the mosques, is highly suspect. A police force that not only refuses doing the job of protecting the public from jihad, but sides with the infil-traitors to accuse the accuser, Cannel 4 in this case, is vile and pernicious.

Actually, its worse: Emergency services ‘do anything to avoid putting themselves at risk’

Melanie Philips

Did you happen to assume, by any strange chance, that the purpose of the emergency services was to rescue people in an emergency from the prospect of death or injury?

Indeed. So did we all.

Well, more fool us! It turns out that their purpose is to avoid anything that puts themselves at risk – and they’ve got a health and safety rule book that says so.

Debate: We Should Not Be Reluctant to Assert the Superiority of Western Values

Here you can catch Tariq Ramadan raving away, labeling the discussion “arrogant” and “fascist,” and refusing to condemn stoning of women, even when directly challenged to do so.

* And that terrorist supporting PoS still whines about not being allowed to enter the US

If you missed the live broadcast of the UK debate on the subject, “We should not be reluctant to assert the superiority of Western values,” the Spectator has made a podcast available in MP3 format.

Fitzgerald: First thoughts on the debate:

images15.jpg

….Then came the serpent, Tariq Ramadan, who turned out to have lost his head. He delivered a confused mess. He insisted that he was a “European Muslim,” someone who belonged in Europe, confusing his geographical presence (yes, he is living in Europe) with an intellectual or emotional bond that he does not have, and could not have. He may live in Europe, but he is no European, and never will be. He went on and on about how so much of European civilization owed its this and its that to this or that figure whom, in Europe, “we never hear about” and “no one knows about.” It was his fantastical history, where the Renaissance and for all I know the Enlightenment and the French Revolution thrown in for good measure, really owe their existence to those wonderful Muslim thinkers whom we are unaware of, but of whom Tariq Ramadan is very aware. He told us again and again how necessary it was to have a real “dialogue” which dialogue could only take place if the insufferable Westerners would stop saying how “superior” they were — that was not quite the theme of the debate, of course — and no one interrupted to shout “but, but, isn’t Islam based on the idea of the superiority of Islam, and the right and duty of Muslims to work to spread Islam until it dominates everywhere, tearing down every conceivable barrier to its spread, and to its dominance?”

Tariq Ramadan: Reformist or Islamist Salafist?

Tariq Ramadan is the grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood movements, the Egyptian Islamist Sheikh Hassan Al-Bana. Tariq Ramadan’s father, Sa’id Ramadan, joined the Muslim Brotherhood in his youth. At age 20, Hassan Al-Bana chose Sa’id to be his personal secretary, and a short time later sent him to Palestine to establish a branch of the movement there. After World War II, when Palestinian Mufti Haj Amin Al-Husseini returned to Palestine, Sa’id Ramadan helped him to form military groups for the struggle against the Jews.
