The case in Spain against Israeli officials, which stems from the 2002 air force attack that destroyed the home of a senior Hamas terrorist and killed several of his children, is based on the universal jurisdiction provisions in the legal systems of a number of democratic countries.

While designed to bring heinous dictators to justice, “lawfare” – as this tactic has been dubbed – is exploited by non-governmental organizations that use the façade of universal human rights to promote their political goals.

The pattern emerged in 2001 when Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, Badil (which focuses on refugee claims) and other NGOs used Belgium as the venue for allegations of war crimes against then-prime minister Ariel Sharon. The case was eventually dismissed and the law changed after Belgian officials linked to African dictators realized that they, too, were vulnerable to prosecution.

I almost reported on this yesterday and I thought, another heinous gang rape in an Islamic country. I’ll report on it when the 46 men get off. But accusing the rape victim (who was attempting to escape domestic slavery) of AIDS is a new twist. A rape by 46 men wasn’t bad enough — they always have to add a new horror, a fallacious charge of AIDS. The implication of course, that she was a whore - in Islam, every rape victim is a whore. Get it?

Ideally, the headline  should continue: “hysterical laughter over Hindu stupidity kills 50.000 Islamic clerics”- but for now that remains wishful thinking, just like this misguided appeal by naive Hindus above.

A group of Hindu leaders on Wednesday appealed to Islamic religious institutions and scholars to come forward with an appropriate ‘fatwa’ (edict) to declare that Hindus were not ‘kaafirs’ (non-believers) and that there need not be a “jihad” (war) against them in India.

Mahathir Mohamad speaks to Arab News in Riyadh		  

RIYADH: Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad strongly backed the Saudi call for a probe into Israeli war crimes, and said that the UN must set up a war crimes tribunal against Tel Aviv to investigate what he called the genocide of innocent Palestinians. Speaking to Arab News yesterday, Mahathir said he supported the Arab peace initiative of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.

“King Abdullah’s peace plan is a good initiative, but we are dealing with certain countries — especially Israel — that do not care about world opinion and peace,” he said. “So any effort to establish peace and to bring the warring parties together will fail, but that does not mean that there should not be any effort to resolve the issues.” Mahathir said that a Malaysian NGO is working to set up a tribunal to try, expose and punish several world leaders, especially the Israeli leadership, for their acts of terrorism.

“The Malaysian tribunal, for which we are now trying to find judges from different countries, will pronounce punitive judgment which may not be carried out because the culprits are high-profile world leaders,” said Mahathir.

He said the Malaysia-based tribunal would be able to try a number of leaders including those from Britain and the US.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan stalked off the stage at the World Economic Forum red-faced after verbally sparring with President Shimon Peres over the fighting in Gaza.

Amr Moussa, the former Egyptian foreign minister who now leads the Arab League, said Erdogan’s action was understandable. “Mr. Erdogan said what he wanted to say and then he left. That’s all. He was right.” Of Israel, he said, “They don’t listen.”

* Meanwhile, in Gaza, Hamas keeps roasting the opposition

Erdogan wants Obama to declare that Hamas and Hizballah are not terrorist groups. That would be fine with me, in fact. The State Department should designate them and others to be jihadist groups, and declare that we are fighting a defensive war against Islamic jihadists.

But of course, that is about as likely to happen as Obama naming Tom Tancredo his immigration and borders czar.

In one classroom Saturday, when UNRWA schools reopened, a Palestinian teacher was filmed asking children about their trauma during the war. The unidentified teacher then told the children that Palestinians have to “wage war against them (Israelis) until they leave their land,” and asked her students, aged about 8, how they should react.

Two children in the class suggested hurling stones or rockets back at Israel. “Okay,” the teacher said, apparently summing up her class’ position. “We throw rockets at them, we throw stones at them,” she said.

Ging said such behavior is “completely unacceptable,” and will be “dealt with in the most severest of fashions.” He said the teacher would likely be removed once identified. Teachers have been fired from UNRWA in the past for incitement.

I have more to say about the Geert Wilders case in my column this week: “Jailed For An Insult?,” from Human Events, January 28:

“You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,” said Barack Obama to Republican leaders Friday. The new president seems to want to make sure that as few people listen to Rush Limbaugh as possible. Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY) warned Thursday that “legislation is brewing on Capitol Hill that would take away free speech from broadcasters by reinstating a law” — the infamous “Fairness Doctrine” — “that would require talk shows to provide equal time coverage of opposing viewpoints on any issues they discuss.”

To permit this filth to sit in parliament is an insult to every Brit. “Lord Ahmed” should have been arrested on the spot and stripped of all his privileges instantly.
“Lord Ahmed” is a repugnant individual. Not only in appearance, but in association, character and morality. And to hear that he has threatened jihad on the House of Lords if their lordships should fail to meet his demands only serves to intensify Cranmer’s loathing of the man.
