Kidnapping, Hostage Taking for Ransom is Traditional Muhammedan Business: Islamists could kidnap Europeans in Africa – report

“The report said that an Islamist cell, the name of which was not given, could be planning to abduct Europeans in an attempt to extort ransom money for terrorist attacks.”— from this news article

Madrid – Spain’s secret service CNI has warned Spanish embassies in North Africa that Islamists could be planning to kidnap European citizens in the region, the daily El Mundo reported Thursday. The CNI has sent warnings to embassies in Algeria, Mauritania, Morocco and to representations in several other African countries, according to the daily, which quoted sources close to the intelligence service.
The report said that an Islamist cell, the name of which was not given, could be planning to abduct Europeans in an attempt to extort ransom money for terrorist attacks.
Radical Islamists could also be planning to hijack airplanes, according to the report.
The sources did not say whether the extremists would target tourists or Europeans residing in the region.

*****

It’s been happening for years, not only in North Africa but in the Middle East, and not only with “Europeans” but with all kinds of Infidels. Money is only one kind of payoff. Diplomatic appeasement, arms transfers unblocked, and so on, are others.

What happened the other day in Afghanistan with those Korean missionaries, their male leaders already killed, in order to free them? $2.65 million, was it, to the Taliban?

Update: According to Al Jizzeera, 20 million were paid…

What happened a few weeks ago, when Libya finally freed those Bulgarian nurses (and one lone, quite resentful-against-Arabs, Arab doctor), after having held them, tortured them, constantly threatened them with death, for eight years? What did the Western powers do except bribe Libya with money, with promises about investment, and of course completed — c’etait le comble — of Cecilia Sarkozy and then Nicolas Sarkozy himself, travelling to Libya which will now be allowed to buy all kinds of French military equipment that had heretofore been blocked.

Bulgarian Nurses: Tortured & Raped

There is nothing new here. The “ransom” has been paid again and again: military supplies, diplomatic abandonment, by steady degrees, of Israel and the indifference to its legal and historic claims; abandonment or refusal to stand up for the Christians or other non-Muslims (the total abandonment of the Biafrans, the seemingly total indifference of even the American government to the fate of the the Christians in Lebanon, during the Civil War in Lebanon and now, and to the mistreatment of the Copts in Egypt, and now to the special worries of the only group in Iraq that deserves Western protection, the Chaldo-Assyrians (as two different kinds of Christians are sometimes called).

Pirates, ransom.

And then there the refusal of one young Republic that, after a bit, decided it had taken the measure of the Muslim Barbary Pirates and would not play the game, and pay the ransom, that older and more cynical European powers had sometimes been doing. There was Jefferson. There was the buildup of the American navy as a direct response to the Muslim corsairs (who often registered their intended targets among the Christian shipping, in this systematic preying on the Infidel ships, cargoes, and seamen then enslaved). There was William Eaton, travelling overland with his band from Cairo, across the Western Desert, to free the Americans held by an incidental and malevolent Dey. There were the Shores of Tripoli.

Some wankers, especially this one here, accused sheik yer’mami of all kinds of evil things, like accusing these poor Ahmeds & Mohameds unjustly.

Florida Muslim Students Indicted

(Video Update: CAIR Spokesman Calls Them ‘Victims’)

Those two Egyptian students at the University of South Florida who were caught with pipe bombs near a South Carolina Navy base have been indicted, and one of them turns out to have a history of involvement in terrorism.

CAIR’s Ahmed Bedier, unindicted co-conspirator in another case, seems to know all about it, but doesn’t tell the truth.

Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed, 24, an engineering graduate student and teaching assistant at the Tampa-based university, faces terrorism charges for teaching and demonstrating how to use the explosives.

According to officials familiar with the case, Mohamed has been arrested previously in Egypt on terrorism-related charges. He is said to have produced an Internet video showing how to build a remote-controlled car bomb.

Mohamed and Youssef Samir Megahed, 21, also an engineering student, were stopped for speeding Aug. 4 in Goose Creek, S.C., where they have been held on state charges. Police found pipe bombs in their car near a Navy base in South Carolina where enemy combatants have been held. They have been held in a South Carolina jail while the FBI continued to investigate whether there was a terrorism link.

It should be noted that after their arrest, the Council on American Islamic Relations immediately jumped out and defended these two, saying they were just “naïve kids” and the pipe bombs were nothing but “fireworks.”

An Islamic community leader from Tampa, Fla., who’s been in touch with the families of the two detained college students, told The Post and Courier that Megahed and Mohamed are not troublemakers and that they were simply on a weekend trip to North Carolina.

Ahmed Bedier, executive director of the Tampa chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a civil rights organization for Muslims, said family members have told him they think the materials were leftover fireworks Megahed kept in his trunk since July 4.

“Both of them are really naïve kids,” Bedier said.

* Sure. They believe in Islam like our kidz believe in Santa.

They believe that Allah commands them to kill infidels and Jooozzz and to ‘strike terror in the hearts of the infidels’- they are really naive.

The Caliphate is the Solution, Folks!

Just in thanks to Mustapha Kamel:

The Caliphate

The Caliphate ( khilafah ) is a unique political system from the ideology of Islam that bears no resemblance to any of the Muslim Governments today. Although many commentators and historians have tried to interpret the Caliphate within existing political frameworks, it is in fact a unique political system, built upon a concept of citizenship regardless of ethnicity, gender or creed that is totally opposed to the oppression of any religious or ethnic grouping.

Caliphate is not a dictatorship

The Caliph ( khaleefah ) is the name given to the head of state in the Caliphate. The Caliph’s authority to rule must be given willingly by the people through a special ruling contact called baya . Without this baya he cannot be the head of state. This is totally opposite to the post of a King or Dictator who imposes his authority on the people through coercion and force. The tyrant Kings and Dictators in the Muslim world are ample examples of this, imprisoning and torturing their own people and stealing their wealth and resources.

This baya contract stipulates that the Caliph must be just and rule the people by Islamic Law ( shariah ). He is not sovereign and cannot legislate laws from his own mind that suit his personal and family interests. Any laws he wishes to pass must be derived from the Islamic legal sources through a precise and detailed methodology called ijtihad . If the Caliph legislates any law contrary to this or commits oppression against his people, the highest and most powerful court in the State called the Unjust Acts Court ( mahkamat muzalim ) can impeach the Caliph and order his removal from office.

Caliphate is not a theocracy

The Caliph has been likened to a Pope, who is the Spiritual Head of all Muslims, infallible and appointed by God. This is not the case as the Caliph is not a priest. His post is an executive post within the Islamic government. He is not infallible and can make mistakes, which is why many checks and balances exist to ensure he and his government remain accountable.

The Caliph is not appointed by God rather he is elected by the people and assumes authority through the baya contract. The Caliphate is not a theocracy since its legislation is not restricted to religious and moral codes that neglect the problems of society. Rather shariah is a comprehensive system that legislates on ruling, social, economic and judicial matters to name but a few. Economic progress and enhancing the living standards of the people is one of its major objectives. This is totally opposite to backward, medieval theocracies found in Europe where the poor were oppressed and forced to work and live in squalid conditions in return for the promise of heaven. Historically the Caliphate was a very wealthy state with a flourishing economy, high standard of living and world leader in industry and scientific research for many centuries.

You gotta read it to believe it folks; how could we ever be without it?

Jihad is nothing but ‘inner struggle’- sez Bilal Sambur

Relax! Take your shoes off! Take a laxative and more valium! Jihad is an interior spiritual struggle! Nothing to be concerned about at all! Everybody out to the beach!

“There is a need to rediscover what ‘jihad’ really means,” said Sambur, a Muslim who teaches at Suleyman Demirel University in Turkey. “Jihad is not equal to holy war. It is an ethical and spiritual concept. It means a human being must spend all his effort to actualize spiritual ideas in his individual and social life.

“This is not my personal definition. This is what the Prophet defines.”

MSNBC’s Dan Abrams Slams “CNN’s Holy War”

From a posting on LFG:

* Islamiane Amanwhore and CNN gave these guys legitimacy. Where’s the outrage?

images.jpg

* even ultra lefty Dan Abrams is slamming Amanpour and her ridiculous propaganda!

[Link: www.camera.org…]

Why has Christiane Amanpour not gone the way of Dan Rather? I am sure she is right now working on her next big project – that will guarantee her next big pay check. She is far less a journalist and much more a liar and fraud than Dan Rather ever was. Yes, she is a woman, Iranian and savvy. Does that make her cool? Does that trump honesty? Where is truth in all this? The MSM is all about the story that will win ratings, first of all, and propaganda reflecting the twisted views of “journalists” and their superiors, secondly. Sure, MSNBC may laudably air a report that is critical, but how did Amanpour and her associates ever get CNN to broadcast the crud in the first place?

* That’s easy:

CNN is a Time-Warner company and Arabs own a solid majority in it.

The August 27th broadcast of MSNBC’s Live with Dan Abrams slammed CNN’s “God’s Warriors” as biased shoddy journalism, with host Dan Abrams saying at the outset that the three-part series “was not what it claimed or promised to be.” In the segment, titled “CNN’s Holy war?”, Abrams also said “CNN should have called it what it was, a defense of Islamic fundamentalism and the worst type of moral relativism.”

According to Abrams, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, “avoided getting bogged down in objectivity.” (See the full video clip below.)

CAMERA offered its own detailed criticism of the Amanpour series in the articles linked below:

1. God’s Jewish Warriors — CNN’s Abomination

“The meaning of killing a Jew for the liberation of Palestine cannot be compared to any Jihad on earth”

“Prosecutors say Muslim charity in Texas got appeal to help fund holy war,” from The Associated Press

Misunderstanders of Islam say to prospective jihadists: “What will unite you is the love of Islam and the motto ‘There is no God but Allah'”

Here is yet another example of the heavily Islamic character of jihadist appeals. Note the emphasis on the ideological aspect of the jihad, and the denial that the movement has any dependence upon charismatic personalities or even upon Al-Qaeda itself: the authors are confident that Muslims can become jihadists simply by studying the Qur’an and Sunnah.

Pali Child Abuse & Pali Propaganda Update

 Reuters Palestinian Propaganda Watch

Here’s some pure propaganda from al-Reuters in the Gaza Strip, starting with the headline, which avoids telling you how this “youth” was killed; if Israeli soldiers were to blame, even if the youth were armed to the teeth and bent on murder the headline would scream, “Israel Kills Teenage Palestinian!”

Instead we get:

Palestinian youth killed in protest at Gaza border.

GAZA (Reuters) – A teenage Palestinian protester was killed as tens of thousands of Gazans demonstrated in the southern part of the strip on Saturday against the closure of a border crossing with Egypt.

The demonstration lasted several hours and broke up after dark, local security officials said.

Hospital staff named the dead as 17-year-old Mohammed Qdaih who was accidentally hit by a bullet fired by Hamas Executive Force officers trying to keep the crowd under control.

By Jürgen Kremb/Spiegel Online

Muslim separatists in the south of Thailand want to secede from the Buddhist north and have targeted monks and other representatives of the state. But they also claim to have been victims of government atrocities.

Udom Dhamakhani, 67, lifts himself laboriously from his wooden cot, on which he has just recited his Buddhist sutras. He straightens his saffron-colored robe and peers out through his oversized reading glasses.
Unusually for a monk’s cell, the room contains a monitor showing images from four surveillance cameras: the veranda, the door of his cell, the main temple — and a bunker. The shelter is occupied by soldiers who have turned Wat Lakmnang monastery on the outskirts of the southern Thai city of Pattani into a fortress. “It’s all because of the trouble out there,” the monk grumbles.

More than 2,400 have already died “out there,” in Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces, in an insurgency started by Muslim rebels. They want the region in southern Thailand, which is home to 1.9 million Malay-speaking Muslims, to secede from the rest of the predominantly Buddhist country.

* Curiously, this German reporter states very clearly what the goal of the ‘Insurgency’ is. Why do others seem to have such a problem nailing it?

Dhamakhani is not just the abbot of Wat Lakmnang, but also the head of all Buddhist temples in Pattani province. Because his fellow monks have reported on the radio about the atrocities being committed by the rebels, Dhamakhani is also in danger. He has already survived three rebel attacks. He would have been dead long ago without the protection of the two dozen soldiers stationed at his monastery.

A Thai soldier provides security to participants during a Buddhist festival in Thailand’s restive Pattani province in this April 2007 file photo.

*

It is seven in the morning, and reports of night attacks are already crackling from the walkie-talkie on his night table. Twelve schools were burned to the ground, but this time there were no casualties. For the rebels, Buddhist temples, military barracks, public buildings and minor officials, such as local mayors and teachers, are all hated symbols of the government in Bangkok.
At 10:15 a.m., an informant reports an explosion on National Route 409 near the village of Yarang, a 15-minute drive from the monastery. Dhamakhani immediately dispatches one of his reporters.

The police have sealed off the road. An armored vehicle has arrived with a soldier wearing a bulletproof vest and steel helmet in the turret, his machine gun in position. He nervously surveys the area. The rebels often place explosives in the underbrush, designed to explode when the troops arrive. There is a gaping hole in the asphalt. The explosion hurled a Toyota van with seven soldiers inside into the ditch. One soldier was beheaded and the others were injured.

A Volatile History

Tuwnedaniya Tuwaemaengae, 24, insists that he has nothing to do with the rebels. Although he is a chemistry student in Bangkok, he says that the Islamic revolution is currently more important to him than his studies. He organized a demonstration a few weeks ago which brought the provincial capital Pattani to a standstill. Now he is taking journalists on a tour of a village where soldiers allegedly committed atrocities against Muslims.

* Green helmet man sends his regards…

The villagers line up along the road to greet their visitors. The region in Narathiwat province is part of the “red zone” where the rebels collect taxes from the villagers to fund their insurgency. In the house of the local imam, villagers tell the story of an army raid and the murder of two young Muslim men. They point to two fresh grave mounds as evidence. But there is not a single bullet hole in the mosque, which villagers claim came under Thai army fire for several minutes.
Kritsada Pornwiriyaongkol, 67, sits drinking a beer in front of the empty office of Pattani’s chamber of commerce. The rebels’ influence in the province has robbed of all hope of ever being able to return to his land.

He operated a crab farm for 16 years.
According to Kritsada, young men from nearby villages began loitering around his farm two years ago. Whenever he walked by, they would laugh and draw their index fingers across their throats.

Kritsada, intimidated, shut down his farm, but he doesn’t want to leave the south. “Where should I go?” he asks. “This is my home. I will stay here, even if it’s just to die.”

Why argue with success? Terrorism works: Every time the brave mujaheddin kidnap Westerners, or in this case Korean would-be missionaries, their respective governments cave in and reward the kidnappers for their crime:

_44088317_woman_ap416.jpg

JANDA, Afghanistan – Taleban militants vowed to abduct more foreigners after ending a six-week hostage drama by releasing the last seven of a group of kidnapped South Koreans under a deal with the Seoul government.

We will do the same thing with the other allies in Afghanistan, because we found this way to be successful,’ Taleban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi told the Associated Press via cell phone from an undisclosed location.

The seven hostages were handed over Thursday to the International Committee of the Red Cross in two separate exchanges close to the central Afghan city of Ghazni, Red Cross officials and an Associated Press reporter said. The freed hostages did not speak to reporters.

The final three released _ two women and a man _ were handed over by armed men on a main road in Janda district after apparently walking through the desert for some distance. Covered in dust, they were quickly bundled into a Red Cross vehicle and driven away.

The seven were part of a group of 23 church volunteers who were abducted on July 19 as they traveled by bus along a dangerous road in southern Afghanistan. The militants killed two men soon after taking them, and released two women earlier this month in what they termed a goodwill’ gesture. On Wednesday, the Taleban released the 12 other hostages.

Michelle Malkin: ‘Why caving in is a bad idea’

Al-Azhar University, the most respected institution in Sunni Islam, endorses ‘Umdat al-Salik, a manual of Islamic law that says this: “When a child or a woman is taken captive, they become slaves by the fact of capture, and the woman’s previous marriage is immediately annulled” (o9.13)? If the capture of non-combatants is forbidden by Islam, are we to believe that these captured women and children were acting as soldiers? If the vast majority of Muslims reject this sort of thing, why does Al-Azhar say that ‘Umdat al-Salik “conforms to the practice and faith of the orthodox Sunni community (ahl al-Sunna wa al-Juma’a)”?

If the killing of these hostages is likewise forbidden, why does the same manual stipulate that prisoners can be killed, exchanged for ransom (why exchanged for ransom, if they are not hostages?), enslaved, or released, depending on what is best for the Muslim community (o9.14)?

Swedish PM Responds to Iran and Pakistan

The Prime Minister of Sweden, Fredrik Reinfeldt, responds to the Muslim world’s ridiculous rage over the dreaded roundabout dogs of blasphemy: SvD: Reinfeldt om Muhammedprotesterna.

Translation thanks to Charles from LGF:

I think it is important to say two things. The first is that we have been very keen on a Sweden that will be a country where muslims and Christians, those that believe in God and those who don’t, can live side by side in mutual respect. We think that we have come very far. I have a responsibility for this to continue and to take initiative to deepen this reciprocity and respect.

* Fredrik Reinfeld will quickly find out that his failed idea of social engineering is a dead end when it comes to the soldiers of Allah…

At the same time we are very focused on standing up for freedom of expression which is a basic right in the law and which comes natural to us and which ensures that we do not make political decisions about what is published in newspapers. I want to keep it this way.

Another member of the government, Fredrik Malm, said:

There is no reason to keep quiet about this question. One must be crystal clear that in Sweden it is not the government that decides what appears in newspapers. Iran should change their own press laws and not try to change ours.

* Right on, Fredrik! May the Winds of Jihad blow all over Sweden!

Islam in Sweden

The number of ghettos (a phenomenon that until recently was unheard of in wealthy and egalitarian Scandinavian nations) has been increasing explosively. 14 years ago, there were only 3 such areas in all of Sweden. Today, there are 136. “Ghettos” are here defined as areas where fewer than 60% of the adult population are working, where few people vote and where school results are significantly below national minimum requirements. Integration spokesman for Folkpartiet, Mauricio Roias, is afraid that if nothing is done about the situation, these quarters will “break loose”, and that “people might get shot”
What Roias isn’t saying is that people ALREADY “get shot”, and stabbed, and mugged, and raped and get stones thrown at them in Sweden’s suburbs. The latest fad right now seems to be putting fire to schools, as quite a few school buildings have burnt down from suspected arson recently.

Australian Muslim Leader Delighted With Burka Mary

From the wankers & flakes department:

images-15.jpgimages17.jpgchoc-jesus.jpg

Piss Christ, Dung Madonna and now ‘Burka Mary’-: Aussie Art Stupidity on Display:

20070830aussieart.jpg

* Brave libertarian ‘artists’ are convinced that they have moved the boundaries for ‘art’ once again: As long as it doesn’t provoke the soldiers of Allah who retaliate by burning embassies, killing people in their hundreds in a fanatical frenzy its all good, isn’t it?

* Strange that the depiction of the Muslim ‘prophet’ Muhammad is frowned upon. Strange that the depiction of humans is considered ‘haram’ in Islam. Even more strange that Muslims leaders are so obviously delighted with the useful idiots and attention seekers who defecate on their own culture and religious symbols. Or do they just see it as another victory for Islam in the jihad conquest of the West and its decadent, degenerated fools and useful idiots?

The Anglican bishop of South Sydney, Robert Forsyth, said he was surprised by offended reactions to the artwork.

“Christians are not about to go and kill people because someone did some cartoons – it’s not the way we respond,” he said. …

The Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal George Pell, said: “As a person of faith and religious background I think it’s important to reflect on the icons of our faiths. Unfortunately, some contemporary art is tedious and trivial. These couple of works demonstrate this.

“Regrettably, attempts to insult Jesus and Mary have become common in recent years, even predictable.Too often it seems that the only quality which makes something art is the adolescent desire to shock.

“If this is the best the Blake Prize can do, it has probably outlived its usefulness.”

ikebal.jpg

But the leader of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, Ikebal Patel, thinks it’s excellent to see Mary in a burqa.

But Australian Federation of Islamic Councils president Ikebal Patel said the statue was “not at all offensive”, because both the Virgin Mary and Jesus were revered figures in Islam.

* Ikebal would only be offended of his ‘profit’ Muhammad was depicted, like here:

231882746_8c0a877624_o.jpg
“So [Mary wearing a burqa is] no different to how our mothers and sisters are expected to be modest in their dressing,” he said.

* No doubt Ikebal would prefer to see all Australian females in the proper Muhammedan attire:

niqabpeterbyrneblog.jpg

He has a little more of a problem with the Jesus-Osama image, mostly because it’s taboo to have any drawing at all of an Islamic prophet.

* Unfortunately the islamic Jesus, ‘Isa’-, is a completely different figure from the the one in the Christian bible: The Muslim Isa will return on judgement day to break the crosses, abolish the jiziyah and slaughter the swine. (The swine are the Christians) but don’t wait for Patel or any other Muhammedan to tell you that…

*

But Mr Patel said he was affronted by the image of bin Laden’s face blending into that of Jesus, who is deemed a prophet in Islam.

“You have a revered prophet of Islam being equated to somebody like Osama bin Laden.

”Also in Islam, we don’t have any paintings or drawings depicting any of our prophets, so I find it quite offensive.“

*

Al Reuters has more details on these works of fine art:

“Bearded Orientals: Making the Empire Cross” by Priscilla Bracks is a “double vision” print that depicts both Jesus and bin Laden.

Luke Sullivan’s “The Fourth Secret of Fatima” is a statue of Mary, her head and torso obscured by a blue burqa like the one Afghan women had to wear under the militant Taliban.

The artworks were among more than 500 entries in the Blake Prize for Religious Art, and have been included in an exhibition at the National Art School in Sydney.

Thailand: No Peace In ‘Restive’ South

AFP reports that the ‘insurgents/militants/shadowy groups/rebels’ in the south don’t want peace talks. Why would that be?

captsgepaf88290807152910photo00photodefault-361×512.jpg

Thai Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said Wednesday that separatists fighting in Muslim-majority provinces have refused to take up his offer to launch peace talks.

“As of now, there has been no progress on starting negotiations, because that would require the agreement of both sides. So there are no talks for now,” he told reporters.

“My government is still adhering a policy of non-violence, but cooperation from the people is crucial,” he said.

Since Surayud took office following a military coup last year, he has made a series of peace gestures to the militants fighting along the southern border with Malaysia.

But the violence has only escalated since the coup, and the government has deployed thousands more troops and paramilitary forces to the region.

Human Rights Watch said in a report Tuesday that despite the peace gestures, Thailand still has no concrete strategy to end state-sanctioned abuses.

* “Human rights watch” is an euphemism for a commie/Muslim infiltrated scam-org. which supports Islamic causes.

The report warned that the conflict was degenerating into a brutal armed conflict in which 89 percent of the fatalities have been civilians.

Foreign Minister Nitya Pibulsonggram welcomed the report and said he believed it would help the international community understand why Thailand has struggled to find ways of reining in the shadowy insurgency.

“The international community will have a positive attitude toward Thailand. The report is fair and does us justice,” he said.

“We always regret the loss of life, regardless of who the victims are,” he said.

More than 2,500 people have been killed since the separatist unrest erupted nearly four years ago. The region was annexed by Buddhist Thailand a century ago.

* AFP never misses that last slur. As if Thailand was somehow  in the wrong for defending its territory…

Yesterday’s Washington Times included Andrea Billups’s excellent story on the installation of footbaths for Muslim students at the University of Michigan Dearborn. Billups reports that the footbaths “were requested as an accommodation by a Muslim Student Association’s task force.” The object of the demand for footbaths is to secure the expenditure of public funds to support Islam. The phenomenon is insidious.

A little background on the MSA should provide a clue. Founded in 1963 by members of the Muslim Brotherhood, the MSA is, according to Stephen Schwartz, MSA “a key element in the Wahhabi lobby, and a cornerstone of the conspiracy by Saudi-backed extremists to control American Islam, as well the public discourse about Islam in America.” It appears to be closely linked to the Islamic Society of North America, a key unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation prosecution. Joe Kaufman’s “MSA: The missing co-conspirator” provides background.

John Matthies, assistant director of Islamist Watch, a Philadelphia-based think tank, said more than a dozen colleges and universities across the nation have foot baths or are in the process of creating them. He thinks the foot bath amounts to “specific rights accorded to a particular demographic.”

“I think it’s shocking that the university administration has become so susceptible to this kind of pressure from student groups. It is wrong for people to remain quiet because this is clearly not a question of racism or of civil rights,” Mr. Matthies said. “If small concessions like these are allowed to go forward with little or no discussion, then we leave ourselves open to demands for privileged or segregated space. This is one particular group singled out using taxpayer money to do it. It has nothing to do with openness or inclusiveness.”

1st of July 2009 Update:

Thanks G-d They’re Dumb: Four ‘googled ATM bomb plan’

Four men hatched a plot to rob ATMs after one of them used the Google search engine to find out how to blow up ATM machines, police say.

The men, all from Sydney’s west, aimed to “own the world starting with Lakemba”, according to police documents tendered in Sydney Central Local Court today.

But police fact sheets instead exposed the men as bungling amateurs who left a glaring communications trail about their plans to blow up ATMs.

Police said they practised manufacturing the explosive in a public park at night.

Three of the men, who were among five arrested yesterday in a joint operation by federal and NSW police, were denied bail by a Sydney court today.

Fadi Bassil, 20, from Lakemba, Elias Taouk, 19, from Kingsgrove, and Badawi Nassour, 20, of Greenacre, were all remanded in custody until October 23.

A fourth man, Linley Desire Jose Anthony, 20, of Yagoona, was refused bail when he appeared in the same court yesterday. The fifth was released after questioning by police.

Police said the arrests followed a tip-off from Northern Territory authorities about the purchase of otherwise legal chemicals that could be used in the manufacture of nitro-glycerine.

The police documents said the men bought 23 litres of chemicals as well as mixing equipment such as beakers, thermometers and droppers from a Darwin company.

The products could have been used to manufacture up to 40kg of nitro-glycerine.

The men never received the chemicals they ordered as police replaced them with an inert substance prior to delivery.

Police alleged internet surveillance revealed that Bassil had googled “how to blow up ATM machines” and “how much money is kept in bank ATMs”.

The men also had googled a recipe for the explosives, and eventually gained all they needed from the internet in terms of knowledge and know-how to carry out the job, police alleged.
