France is doing away with itself, but….

…there are still pockets of resistance:

Ernesto Rojas Abbate was arrested in October 2010 after posting footage of himself wearing a devil mask and tearing pages from the Islamic holy book before setting it on fire and later urinating on it to extinguish the flames.

French Appeals Court allows acquittal ruling to stand for man who posted a video of himself burning and urinating on quran  (Barenaked)

Watch your feelings:

The appeals court ruled that, while the video was “willfully outrageous and deliberately provocative”, there was no evidence Rojas Abbate had intended   “to arouse feelings of hostility… aimed at provoking discrimination, hate, or violence towards Muslims.”

His lawyer, Renaud Bettcher, hailed the ruling, saying: “In a secular and republican society, it is incomprehensible that my client was prosecuted. Blasphemy does not exist in France.”

Police arrested Rojas Abbate after local Muslim leaders in Strasbourg reacted with outrage at the video. (When DON’T Muslims react with outrage?)

But that rewriting of French history is coming along nicely:

Tiny Minority of Excremists Update, and while we’re at it, an Impotent Islamabad Update, as the prime minister reiterates Pakistan’s commitment to doing nothing. “Thousands rally in Pakistan for blasphemy laws,” by Ashraf Khan for the Associated Press, January 9 via JW:

Tens of thousands of demonstrators marched in Pakistan’s largest city on Sunday to oppose any change to national blasphemy laws and to praise a man charged with murdering a provincial governor who had campaigned against the divisive legislation.

As for the billions ~ after $$100 million$ were sent to Pakistan ~ for the SWAT refugee crisis ~ Pakistan Christians were turned away from official camps ~ they were told their food was ‘unclean’ ~ and that they could not cook next to Muslims. As a result they never gained refugee status ~ and did not receive compensation for property loss as Muslim citizens got.

In a story about the Asia Bibi blasphemy case in Pakistan, CNN goes out of its way to say that the Qur’an and Hadith do not contain a death penalty for blasphemy, thereby implying that Asia Bibi is in danger of death because of cultural or political factors, not because of anything that needs to be addressed within Islam. This is a familiar mainstream media practice when it comes to stories about honor killing or genital mutilation: the story will inevitably assure the reader that the practice in question has nothing to do with Islam, and give no hint of why it is so widely tolerated and practiced in Islamic countries. This only assures that the human rights establishment will never address these issues properly, and thus these practices will continue.

“Family waits to see if mother, accused of blasphemy, will be hanged” by Reza Sayah for CNN, November 18 (thanks to JW):

Neither the Koran nor the prophet Muhammad’s teachings in the Hadith call for the execution of blasphemers, but Islamic scholars and jurists from generations past included the death sentence when drafting Islamic law.

Islam QA disagrees, and uses both Qur’an and Hadith to make its argument:

WTF are we fighting for?

Afghanistan: Convert from Islam to Christianity arrested, tortured, faces trial for apostasy

But wait! I thought all the learned analysts had assured us that there is no death penalty for apostasy in Islam! Isn’t that right, Dr. Bassiouni? Mr. Kruse? Ms. Heagney?

Afghanistan’s U.S.-backed government has done this before. Remember Abdul Rahman?

“Mossa’s day in court,” by Mindy Belz in World Magazine, November 13 (thanks to JW)

Absolute insanity. Not one of our soldiers should have to die to establish “Democracy Under Sharia” – Mission Impossible  in a corrupt and hopeless land such as Afghanistan.

Pakistan: Christian woman sentenced to death for “blasphemy” (not to worry, the pope is onto it. If he cannot save her, who will?

The family of a Pakistani Christian woman sentenced to death for blasphemy is appealing the verdict with the Lahore High Court. Asia Bibi, a mother of two and field hand, was sentenced to death for allegedly making slanderous remarks about the Prophet Muhammad. (JW)

Religion of gun-fighting clerics

QUETTA, Pakistan — A shootout inside a mosque in southwestern Pakistan wounded 18 people Wednesday in a dispute over who should lead prayers for one of Islam’s most important holidays, police said. (Canadian Press)

Don’t judge this too harshly. After all, don’t we hear about shootouts in churches all the time, over who has to clean up after the potluck supper, or who gets to be head of the parish council? Don’t Believe Your Lying Eyes, It’s Really A Religion of Peace Update: “Pakistan mosque shootout leaves 18 injured,” from the Associated Press, November 17:

A shootout in a mosque in south-western Pakistan, caused by a dispute over who should lead prayers on one of Islam’s most important holidays, has left 18 people injured, police said today.Followers of the two rival religious leaders pulled out weapons and began shooting after arguing over which one should start Eid al-Adha prayers at a small mosque in the Khuzdar district of Baluchistan province, Javed Ahmed, a police official, said….

And given the ever-present journalistic imperative to whitewash Islam, AP hastens to assure us that this is not the norm in a paragraph that would never find a counterpart in a story about a pedophile priest or money-grubbing evangelist:

Millions of people throughout Pakistan have been peacefully celebrating Eid al-Adha….

Oh, well, then!

Turkish Muslims Steal Sheep for Eid ‘Sacrifice’… (TROP)

Islam, nothing but Islam

It’s the Islam, Stoopid!

In German: Nächste Watschen für Aygül Özkan

Thanks to PI, slightly edited

Lawyer-by-training and German by naturalisation Aygül Özkan  sees German courts as an “alien authority” and would like to see more Turkish Muslims in the judiciary. Özkan recently caused an uproar when she called for the removal of cruzifixes from German classrooms. Since German police is unable to cope with large numbers of increasingly aggressive, criminal gangs of Mohammedan ‘youth’ the import of Turkish policemen is being suggested. Nobody seems to realize that Turkish police would side with the criminals, because Muslim loyalties always lie with other Muslims, never with the infidel nation state.

Now Aygül Özkan is about to introduce a “Media Charter” for Lower Saxony. During a collective act on August 16 in Hannover, the invited media representatives are supposed to sign this so-called “Media Charter on Integration”. The written invitation says that the collective declaration of intent is supposed to generate a publicity effect and all undersigned will have to pledge themselves to “strongly support the integration process in Lower Saxony”.

Özkan’s ministry demands the media use “culturally sensitive” language  to further “intercultural openness (which is, of course, humbug, because the term “intercultural” is a one-way-street and don’t we all know the “intercultural openness” of Muslims towards the West), to improve their “intercultural competence” (ditto), to initiate relevant projects and to cover them as journalists.

The NWZ goes on:

It is so far unique in Germany for the government of a federal state to pledge the media to a collective content and even the language used for that.

How very daring! But while Özkan had gotten a lot of backslapping by the media for her attempt at removing the crucifix from the public eye (who wants religion anyway, at least as long as it’s Christian), by getting at the media itself, she went too far and didn’t come by the usual fawning reception to which she must be used by now.

Here we have a woman, young, “modern”, seemingly perfectly assimilated, educated to university level, the lot, yet the first thing she sets her mind on in her high office, even before she is sworn in, is the banning of the Christian symbol from schools and, not even three months later, the abolition of the freedom of the press in favour of her fellow Muslims. Because in spite of all the “integration” and “people with a migration background” hogwash it’s just about one thing: Islam. Just as for this woman, young, “modern”, seemingly perfectly assimilated, educated to university level, everything is about Islam.  Islam, nothing else matters……

Germany:  Token Muslim Minister (Turkish agent) Calls for Blasphemy Laws, Threatens Media To Use “Culturally Sensitive Language”

That’s right after she tried to get crucifixes banned from German classrooms. She’s pushing it; because she can:

Aygul Ozkan, minister of integration in Lower Saxony state, had asked media to sign a charter to abstain from “racist” reporting. (Islam is not a race. But striking terror in the hearts of all Islam-critics is official policy of the OIC and the UN, and this Islamo agit-prop is doing their bidding….)

The draft proposed that signatories ‘use culturally sensitive language,’ educate readers to think ‘interculturally’ and devote news attention to ‘the challenges of integration.’ She suggested leading editors meet in August to publicly sign the charter.

As the outcry grew, Ozkan appealed for calm, saying the text was ‘just a first possible draft as a basis for discussion.’ (Monsters & Critics)

Pakistan: Christians murdered outside courthouse had been acquitted of blasphemy

But enraged Muslims in the area demanded blood for (alleged) pamphlets. “2,000 Muslim militants go on rampage in Faisalabad; acquitted Christians murdered,” from Catholic Culture via JW

When Aygül Özkan was appointed by former Prime Minister Christian Wulff to become the first Muslim minister in Germany, there was doubt whether the contradiction between Islamic teachings and our Basic Law could always be regulated in the secular sense. For the first time in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany this minister would like to shake down the freedom of the press granted in the Basic Law. Media are to commit themselves officially to only report to certain topics in a sense specified first and with arranged language. Guess  which topics this could be….?

Blasphemy Charges in Finland:

Jussi Halla-aho to stand trial for blasphemy against Allah

Besides blasphemy, Halla-aho was “ordered to stand trial for publishing on his blog that Islam’s prophet was a pedophile.” Here again we encounter the Orwellian, or perhaps more precisely Alice-In-Wonderland, Through-the-Looking-Glass quality of today’s public discourse.

Helsinki city councilman, Jussi Halla-aho was charged with blasphemy and incitement of an ethnic-group in the Helsinki district court today, and ordered to stand trial for publishing on his blog that Islam’s prophet was a pedophile.

* In Austria, elected politician Susanne Winter was convicted on similar charges. The truth is no defense.  WTF?

Jihad Watch wonders what else you’d call the Prophet by today’s standards:

The collection of traditions of Muhammad that Muslims consider most reliable, Sahih Bukhari, affirms in no less than five places that Aisha was six when Muhammad took her and nine when he consummated the marriage (vol. 5, bk. 58, no. 234; vol. 5 bk. 58 no. 236; vol. 7 bk. 62 no. 64; vol. 7 bk. 62 no. 65; and vol. 7 bk. 62 no. 88). It is also in Sunan Abu Dawud (bk. 41 no. 4915), another of the Sahih Sittah, the six hadith collections Muslims accept as most reliable.

Hitchens: How the UN wants to criminalize Free Speech

Don’t Say a Word

A U.N. resolution seeks to criminalize opinions that differ with the Islamic faith.

By Christopher Hitchens/

The Muslim religion makes unusually large claims for itself. All religions do this, of course, in that they claim to know and to be able to interpret the wishes of a supreme being. But Islam affirms itself as the last and final revelation of God’s word, the consummation of all the mere glimpses of the truth vouchsafed to all the foregoing faiths, available by way of the unimprovable, immaculate text of “the recitation,” or Quran.

* War Provocation Pays Off for Gaza as Donors Promise $4.5 Billion…

* Puzzled in Gaza

If there sometimes seems to be something implicitly absolutist or even totalitarian in such a claim, it may result not from a fundamentalist reading of the holy book but from the religion itself. And it is the so-called mainstream Muslims, grouped in the Organization of the Islamic Conference, who are now demanding through the agency of the United Nations that Islam not only be allowed to make absolutist claims but that it also be officially shielded from any criticism of itself.

Though it is written tongue-in-cheek in the language of human rights and of opposition to discrimination, the nonbinding U.N. Resolution 62/154, on “Combating defamation of religions,” actually seeks to extend protection not to humans but to opinions and to ideas, granting only the latter immunity from being “offended.” The preamble is jam-packed with hypocrisies that are hardly even laughable, as in this delicious paragraph, stating that the U.N. General Assembly:
